When we first spotted headlines about a lone gunman’s lethal assault on the home of a federal judge in New Jersey, we feared this was just another example of how criminals have been emboldened by the nationwide backlash against law enforcement embodied by the ‘defund the police’ movement.
But that was before we learned that the judge targeted in the attack – Newark-based US federal judge Esther Salas – had been assigned to the Deutsche Bank/Epstein case just four days before the attack.
The shooting occurred Sunday night at around 5pmET. Salas 20-year-old son Daniel Anderl, a student, opened the door at the family home in North Brunswick after hearing the doorbell ring. The man outside appeared to be a FedEx employee, according to media reports.
Almost immediately, the gunman started blasting, shooting and killing Anderl, and badly wounding his father, Mark Anderl, 63, a prominent defense attorney in the area. Salas has reportedly received threats from time to time, but local press reported that Salas hadn’t received any threats recently.
Seated in Newark, Salas’ most high-profile cases recently involved the tax evasion prosecution of Joe Giudice, the husband of RHNJ star Theresa Giudice. She also spared a murderous gang leader from the death penalty over what she ruled was an intellectual disability that made him ineligible for capital punishment.
But Salas is now presided over an ongoing lawsuit brought by Deutsche Bank investors who claim the company made false and misleading statements about its AML policies while failing to monitor “high-risk” customers like sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. After all, how would Epstein have managed to run his international child-sex-trafficking ring without banks to move the money around for him.
The FBI revealed last night that it would be taking over the case.
Investigators said they’re looking into any connections to the Epstein/DB lawsuit, while also investigating any connections to her husband’s work as a criminal defense attorney.
The FBI’s announcement was met with a sarcastic response by many on twitter.
The FBI says it’s looking for one suspect. The Marshals Service is also carrying out its own investigation, since the agency takes its responsibility to protect federal officials “very seriously”.
So far, authorities have refused to confirm that the Epstein connection might have been a motive. A friend of the judge’s said Salas hadn’t received any threats recently.
Salas, 51, was New Jersey’s first Hispanic woman to serve as a US district judge. She was nominated by Barack Obama in 2010, and confirmed by the Senate the following year.

The FBI should be the LAST government agency to investigate this case as it cannot be trusted. You can bet that, after the FBI is finished, there will be no case.

The judge was on a case involving Deutsche Bank in money laundering with risky clients who were multiple defendants -one of whom was Jeff Epstein. She’d been assigned the case four days earlier and the bank was fined $150 million. More coming on this one – if it doesn’t fall down the rabbit hole.
Total coincidence it’s not.
The gun blogs will be picking this one up, too. For one, it’s in NJ in broad daylight and two, she’d had prior death threats. Only “special people” tend to get carry permits in NJ and she would’ve qualified hands-down.
So howcum her son was killed and her husband shot if she was the target? The Rabbit Hole could be deep and include more than the judge herself.
It is the message that counts here in my opinion. What judge or official will step out of line knowing his or her family will be targeted. Take a look at the lefts play book for details. These are evil folks Mygirl….Maybe.

I live in Colombia during (not all of) period and a one point, a friend’s godfather was serving as a national overseer after corruption. One day we went to his office to visit with him. First we were immediately directed to park elsewhere, although my friend was known to the guards and treated with great courtesy. We were allowed to stand within the perimeter. Then came the sirens and the motorcade, guards armed with machine guns leaping off bikes and out of the vehicles, taking up positions. around the overseer’s armored SUV in the center. When he emerged (tiny little older gent), he was surrounded and rushed inside. Then we were allowed in. My friend’s elfin godfather gave a her a big kiss and we went to his office to be served coffee. “Don’t be worried. It’s like this every day.”
When his work eventually concluded with some senators behind bars, my friend’s father was for all practical purposes forced to expatriate. It was a tough time, but it wasn’t all narcos. Pablo Escobar was terminated during my time there, but the beat went on in in politics, guerrilla warfare and much else.
Haven’t been back in 27 years now, but still have friends there and my son loved the place on a visit a few years back. I wonder how it’ll be in the USA in perhaps not too short a time.

Those were crazy times. A Seal buddy of mine in Nam resigned his commission and went to work as a Merc. He eventually got hired on by the CIA to work in Columbia through the Arizona Land and Cattle Co..
I met up with him in the VA hospital right after he was released from the Psych Ward. He said he went nuts from getting orders to take out a processor one week and the two weeks later leave him alone but take out his competition. It went on like the for a year when the hypocracy of it all plus the stress and drugs they took on the job sent him over the edge.
I’m sure most have seen “A Clear And Present Danger” with Harrison Ford and recall the scene where the US envoy’s motorcade is attacked by Narcos with RPG’s. The US ambassador said that actually happened except unlike the film he wasn’t killed.

Oh dear. Seems that the shooter who killed son/shot husband is a men’s rights attorney. The authorities KNEW it was him just hours after the shooting, and, more interesting still, another men’s rights attorney was shot and killed a few days ago. They were both white men and the shooter, one Roy Den Hollander, sued several journalists for pushing fake news. He was a Trump supporter too.

The shooter Horiuchi was said to be from corrupt, Ultra-liberal Massachusetts. Chinatown south Quincy and Braintree, MA. That’s where the FBI consorted with Boston mobsters and overlooked dumping their victims bodies there for 30 or 40 years. A female evidence room officer shot herself in the head in Braintree a while back. Greater Boston still has a very low rate of solving murders and assorted homicides. I don’t trust any incident narrative or statement reported by Federal or state law enforcement going back 100+ years.

I have always been of the opinion that the Epstien crimes are just a hold over from the Franklin Affair of the ’90’s. Money is likely the smallest concern within this case. It was just a reminder, if they can hit a judge’s home -at will- they can hit where ever and when ever they wish.

I think they did get their intended target. For a woman to outlive her son in such circumstances? 10 times the mileage as killing her. Every judge in the country is now wondering just how much fairness they want to take on.

What most people don’t realize is most civil, family, and criminal court cases have been Frozen in time since mid-March.
The backlog of civil and criminal cases was horrible before the Jury trial system was suspended in March and that’s no exaggeration. Jury trials have been suspended indefinitely.
