SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, Austrian Peter, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Schostakowitsch: 5. Sinfonie

I. Moderato

II. II. Allegretto

III. III. Largo

IV. IV. Allegro non troppo

Stanisław Moniuszko – Bajka. Opowieść zimowa, Conte d’hiver, fantasy overture

Okay, more youngsters, not by design though.

This is a rendition of Stanislaw Moniuszko’s piece titled Bajka.. Bajka meaning a fairy tale or fable usually with a talking animal. The rest of the title, Opowiesc zimowa, Conte d’hiver or basically a fantasy overture about AB tale of Winter.

Moniuszko (1910-1872) was a famous Polish musician, teacher and conductor. The Belarusian has his own museum.

This piece is conducted by Szymon Bywalec.

The orchestra is the winner of the 2014 Polish Nationwide Music Schools Competition. They are the Karol Szymanowski Youth Symphony Orchestra. They are in fallible. Pay no attention to the young lady on first flute. Okay, she’s a little cute..

Anyway, this is a great piece of music. Enjoy.

Can somebody tell me why conductors get so much credit and applause? When I was in band, I never watched the band leader/conductor while playing. I simply played whatever was on the sheet music.

I really liked that first orchestra. And I thought the conductor was quite handsome.
