Agreed. The 60s and 70s still included all of that. I would even say that some of the 80s did too (I was in college, so don’t really know). I never heard “Karen” complaining on the news or even heard of any gubmint goons descending on homes of parents who allowed their children to be children during the 80s.
All those things were in effect in the 1980s. Can’t speak to the 1990’s, but it seems that roughly around the turn of the millennium is when things went to shit.

Yep, that was my first reaction. We only went in when we got tired of catching “lightning bugs”( most know them as fire flies). One question: When was the last time you fell to sleep listening to the crickets and frogs making their calls, and that was all you could hear?
I lived near grape vineyards, orange, peach and almond orchards, and the irrigation water was clear and cold so I didn’t even need to pack a lunch. Spent all day outside, all summer long. This was California in the 70’s. Then the girls in my class started growing boobs and it was all downhill from there.

Siphon tube…use them to irrigate crops out here in the west but they have a curve and are made of aluminum.

Along with the science it’s quite an art form to walk along, grab each tube, prime it, and then flop it down into it’s respective furrow. Has to be done very quickly and accurately as the main water feed is only flowing for so long.
With practice, you could grab the tube by the downhill side with one hand, covering the opening at the same time, dip the tube into the water, then pull the downhill side back out and into the furrow and let go – all in one quick motion. Growing up, the county fair had tube setting contests to see who could get them all running in the quickest time.

I know that it seriously cuts shipping and production costs, but I do not like the aluminum can trend in craft beers. Its one thing to put piss like Budweiser, etc. in cans, but something tasty and high alcohol just isn’t right.

I’ve seen a filler like that in operation in person. If you can justify that kind of equipment (filler, sealer, decorator/labeller, and everything that goes with it), are you really a “Craft beer” operation anymore? Or just packing the same beer under different labels?
I suppose there is the possibility of a “custom” filling operation……
Labor isn’t cheap. Automation is becoming more and more inexpensive relative to labor. Not promoting one over the other….just saying.
It’s not so much labor as it is consistency and production rate.
I worked at a coffee packaging plant once. The same coffee (under different labels) went into the bags. Made me laugh when I was at a grocery store once and heard a customer carrying on about how a certain higher priced brand was better than the others.
Many years ago, I went into a small pub in the U K where they served ale, and even beer, oak wooden tankards shaped like kegs with a handle. They must have been decades old and I bought a pair. They each hold a quart and are still my container of preference for a cold beer. Having used them for all brands and have yet to taste a bad drink from them.
Makes you wish for a comeback of wooden kegs.

One year my Dad grew some peppers in the garden that were supposedly jalapeño but they grew with the peppers extending straight upwards not hanging down like normal. Don’t know what kind they were but my younger brother and a friend pulled a stunt like above. Wasn’t pretty.
Sounds like one of the so-called “ornamental” varieties they come out with around fall (nice fall colors including purple, etc.). Fucking hot, all of them.
