Living in a Bubble

“Space Bubbles” Line The Street At This NYC Restaurant

“With everything going on in this world, eating in a bubble is about one of the best experiences we can have,” Valerie Worthy, a customer who ate a meal in what is being called a “space bubble” at French restaurant Cafe du Soleil, on Broadway and 104th Street, told Reuters.

Cafe du Soleil’s Facebook page uploaded a video in early September, showing these protected domes lining the sidewalk in front of the eatery.

Another video shows patrons enjoying live jazz in their bubbles on a rainy night.

Cafe du Soleil owner Alain Chevreux told Reuters the bubbles caught his eye in July. He paid upwards of $400 per bubble, purchasing fifteen bubbles in total.

Chevreux said, “families love it. Kids love it. Friends who want to get together love it… It was raining a couple of weeks ago, midweek, pouring, raining. Everybody that was inside those bubbles were having a blast.”

The bubbles could come in handy for the fall time when eateries across Manhattan’s Upper West Side; nevertheless, the entire city, will be at the mercy of Mother Nature. Readers may recall, the seasonal shift to much colder temperatures could make outside dining challenging for some eateries.

We noted Monday, a cold airmass will encompass all U.S. Plains, Midwest, Southeast, and Northeast, where temperatures could hover 8 to 15 degrees below normal through the first week of October.

At limited indoor capacity, Chevreux said the bubbles had worked well, though he still isn’t generating enough revenue to cover his chef, cooks, and other staff salaries.

Chevreux made no mention if the bubbles would be heated come fall/winter.

You can almost guarantee any time a business says something is sooooo great…it ain’t.

But, interestingly enough, one one these would be great during a rainy evening. I think I would actually enjoy dining in the rain inside one of these.

Al fresco dining on a sophisitcated boulevard’s sidewalk; an intimate tete a tete over drinks in an weather-proof enclosure overlooking the magnificent ocean; a cozy ice fishing shack, in -10 degree January, awaiting the arrival of The Great Muskie…

It is quite often a great experience – eating in an enclosure.

Those cheap ass plastic blow away tents are just an excuse to get around Commissar Bill DeBlasio’s diktats regarding the NYC CoVid-19(84) implosion and medical martial law.

Perhaps Mr. Restaurateur needs to relocate to someplace less tyrannical.

I bit the bullet and dined out a few times in different neighborhoods across the city. Some of these restaurants are actually building structures to support “outside” dining for when the weather turns cold. Hats off to those establishments attempting to keep the dream aka nightmare alive. But I have lost so many of my favorite places to the dustbin of the coronatastrophre.

Why not stay at home. Save the money. Make dinner together. Get to know your family.

New York “Schiffy” – ain’t bugged-out yet? Stupid is . . . stupid does/remains. Psst, “red-county-rural” yet? Tick-tock. CHOOSE, while you still can – ditch the “urbie scene”.

Insane. No man who has ever drawn a free breath could possibly “have a blast” eating in a bubble.

We tried going out to eat recently. Reseraunts wanted to sell us food to go with no sitting down to eat.
My young daughter commented that the virus was ruining our lives as she fought back tears. we managed to find a Burger King that we could sit in, but they had gotten rid of their milkshake machine and napkins and condiments. I guess there’s something about milkshakes and COVID?

Jesus take me home! I am down in South America right now and these silly ass “bubbles” are on the street in front of some of the restaurants. The media in this country are hopelessly in thrall to such outlets as CNN and they have helped spread panic far and wide. I walked past one of these bubbles and saw an upper middle class family making fools of themselves by sitting in it. I laughed out loud, to the evident consternation of those encased in plastic. This place has been hit hard by corona virus. Why? The stupidity of the lower class. They will not take even sensible precautions (washing their hands, not roaming about when obviously sick) and have spread it around. Some are even worse. Among the true filthy lumpen, they have engaged in such obscene spectacles as doing lewd dances on the coffins of Covid 19 victims. The dregs of society in Latin America are the best evidence you need for eugenics. There was some fat, gross, sub-human doing a nasty dance in front of a dead body and hundreds of other mouth-breathers. Fortunately the cops showed up and arrested the main guilty parties. In South America they do great perp walks and force the criminals to stand in front of TV cameras. Public shaming is a very good thing.
