My grandfather’s cousin, Chuck Yeager, passed away this week. In his biography he credits his excellent far vision for becoming an Ace fighter pilot saying he saw the other guy first. Superb distant vision is a family trait along with color blindness. This “hunters” gene is passed along from ancient forefathers so that color doesn’t distract from shape, such as deer or an enemy hiding in the bush. I regret never having asked the General if he, too, had the same condition. I’m 72 and wear .25 magnifiers for ease of reading print only and can still read Interstate road signs up to a mile away. I find the gene factor to be interesting and hope you do, too. Bald? Your ancestors could look over or around a rock or fallen tree and not have their presence noticed because of a pile of unruly hair sticking up.
