Several folks enjoyed my post last week of the Mongolian rockers (The Hu Band). Here is more “throat singing” — being able to vocalize two or more notes simultaneously — from a young woman from the Russian Republic of Yakutia.
But, she doesn’t do “metal”. She honors her native cultural heritage in a genre of music that is rooted in shamanism. (Bible thumpers; please refrain from sermonizing!!). Her instrument is called “khomus”, a kind of jaw harp.
Again, give it a chance. At least give the first video three minutes. Close your eyes during the first ten seconds … tell me it doesn’t sound like you’re hearing actual sounds of creatures in a forest. At the 2:36 mark, tell me that doesn’t sound like a horse! And at the 9:01 mark, tell me that doesn’t look like Vladimir Putin! (It actually is Vlad.)
Even if you don’t like the music, I think all will at least appreciate the talent. This very attractive (and sensual) lady can vocalize four notes simultaneously. Simply amazing.
I’ve included this long video below because in the first three minutes she’s actually singing, and she has a beautiful voice. It’s clearly a spiritual song, haunting, yet worshipful, and it moves me to contemplate Deeper Things. (I think I’ve listened to it half a dozen times this past week.)
Wow, have to admit it is impressive in a very odd and fascinating way. Does not hurt she is easy on the eyes!
Hmm, this music(?) should go quite nicely with my next acid trip.
And, now, because of YOU, I’m watching Siberian Throat Singing.
Well, now I am.
And… while I still have time to edit? I absolutely love this.

Now, my Nick and I are listening to this.
Okay, so I didn’t give the throat singing a shot, did I?
No, you didn’t. lol
I had no right to be a Dik-tyrant to a very good friend. I had a bad day. I’m sorry, Mags.
Listening now.
And what is your opinion? Will you be buying the album and dropping some tabs with me?
Credit where credit is due. This is a woman who clearly proficient in her art.
Ya find a nice piece of unique and exotic music, ya think “hey, other folks will like this”, ya take the time to make it a thread, ya do a brief write-up to tell folks what it’s about, ya practically beg folk to give it a 3 minute try ….. and whaddya get?
Only four unique visitors, two which appreciate it, one dork who is still living in the 60’s (acid? really??) and questions if it’s even music, and one who decides to hijack the thread to tell us what she is listening to! Nice.
The rest of y’all can go kiss my fucken ass. Yeah, that’s right, you cretins aren’t worth the effort.
Jezzzz Stuck…give us some time…I just got here…haven’t even heard her yet…now I feel obligated to like her…I hate it when I’m a cretin…
I’ll be right back…in 3 minutes…
Stuck,
You have to admit, this music was made for a Long Strange Trip.
The first two were a combination of a beautiful woman with the voice of a sleek, powerful, and magnificent horse then a soaring eagle backed up by a pulsating rhythmic drum.
I was thinking of the Alien character (Loy Gossett Jr.) in Enemy Mine singing that song in the ending of the movie…a song I never heard before but one that made you smile, of course just looking at this babe would make any man smile (always been a face guy).
Now the last vid was captivating as besides everything else in that amazing package, she has beautiful, delicate, graceful hands and gestures as only a woman can.
Ahhh…viva la difference.
Last but not least was her language and words after the first song in the third vid.
I don’t know what she said, but even guttural words slipped from those full lips like sweet honey dew drops.
Wow…so I’m not a cretin after all…I was sure you had me pegged.
I prefer yodelling.
Is this throat singing?
Thank God I married a throw back West Texas Country red headed blue eyed…good ole gal.
Praise JESUS!
It’s known as polyphonic / overtone singing. I’ve heard her before, she was on one of the America Got Talent shows…
Here’s the German version….
I do I get down to that?
How do I get down to that?
Harpies are real.
I like it. Think about the distance between how we live today and listening to this stuff in a smokey tent in the middle of a Siberian winter tripping balls on magic shrooms drinking fermented reindeer milk!……that is how humans are supposed to live……This modern technocracy is killing us.
Jeezus! Did I really write that?? Ragging on people, including friends? What a dickwad!
I had a very bad evening yesterday. Mu libtard sister came over … afterwards my mom cried for an hour. I’m gonna skip the details … my sister has a black heart. I should have just went to bed instead of venting on TBP. Sorry, folks.
Have no expectations and you’ll never be disappointed! Or maybe you still will. No guarantees. But posting is like bestowing a gift. Once given you can’t take it back and that’s a good thing because who knows where it goes from there?
Deranged liberals are narcissistic energy vampires, they literally suck positive energy right out of you. It is draining, and your body responds with depression or anger. It sucks. Sorry it happened to you and your mom.
Very nice Stucky, I enjoyed it very much. I played around with a joosharp as a young teen, but never knew the depths of what could be done with it. This artist is very impressive. Thanks very much for this post.
Yuck Stuck!
Don’t won’t buy it. It’s a conglomeration of sounds.
Looking forward to what our TBP minister of culture will present next to us red neck tin eared grifters.
But
She’s kinda purty with all them fancy voicey things she’s doin with her metal twangy thing. I ain’t never heard anything like it, except for the time ol Merle went and sped up hiz 8 track and got that Tony Orlando and Dawn all high pitched and girly voiced singin bout that yeller ribbon an all. Yep, thems were the days.
Neither have I. Ever. Which is the only reason I posted it …. to expand the Cultural Learning For Make Benefit of TBP .peoples. Yah, I could have just moved on … kept this all to myself. But, I chose not to.
Because …. I mean, isn’t an exciting part of life being exposed to new things, and new experiences …. instead of the same old, same old day after day?
I’m not saying people should go out and buy her music. I’m not even suggesting people love the music, as I do. But, appreciating the talent, her culture, and her obvious passion seems reasonable. Right?
Maybe I just got lucky. As I mentioned a few days ago, my parents’ circle of friends was like a European Union of various nations. When I was a kid we’d go to NYC a lot. I’ve seen Russian Cossacks, Hungarian Gypsies, German yodelers, Yugoslavian symphonies, and much more. When I was stationed in Greece I absolutely fell in love with Greek music right out the gate. It was so easy for me … while every one of my Air Force buddies thought it basically sucked. So, I guess I was lucky that way … being exposed to many different styles.
I sort of feel sorry for kids who only listened, for example, to rock, more rock, nothing but rock. These kids become adults who think anything but rock is bullshit. What a shame to be bound by such narrow interests. My god, there’s a whole WORLD out there begging to be explore … and appreciated!!

Thank you
I actually enjoyed the videos (I listened to all), but couldn’t resist going on a country boy tirade when given the opportunity!
I like it. It is very elemental, you can feel the energy of the natural world in it, and I think that’s what she is trying to convey. Cool find, thanks for sharing it.
Well, that was different. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone make such good use of a jaw harp before.
Anyone ever listen to Yma Sumac? She reportedly had one of the widest ranges in female vocals ever.
Nope. But, NOW I have! Thanks, man! Yeah, she’s pretty amazing also.
I remember about ’71 or ’72 seeing a video in an Eastern Religion class in college of Tibetan Buddhist monks chanting in chords … 3 distinct notes from one voice … an awesome accomplishment. But, then, they don’t really have jobs … so they can practice at this all day and all night if they choose to do so.
It was a beautiful and mesmerizing sound, though — whether from just one monk or from a group of them …
Music is said to have originated before recorded history, over 40,000 years ago, and its origins started from mimicking the sounds of nature itself. Less understood is the emotional and psychological effect on humans and how or why music came to be such a part – a universal part – of the human experience.
IMHO, these clips, and you desire to post them, illustrate just that – ancient music with roots in nature can still resonate with us in the modern age. On another note (pun intended), that part from 3:22 to 4:50 in the first clip was a surprising blend of old and new that would be right at home in a rave club.
Yakutsk? 70 below? No wonder she doesn’t like Metal! Her skin freezes to it.
