I’ve been blessed in finding an octogenarian with a mill 45 mins away that was able to provide heart pine 2x6x8,10 & 12s for a small project I hope to begin in March.

When we built our house, I contacted a customer who owns a lumber mill and he agreed to sell me all of my dimension lumber if I bought a truck load. He normally did not sell to the public, but he liked our company and did it as a favor. It saved me about 35% on all the 2 X’s and it is great southern yellow pine. I even got a bundle of 28′ 2X8’s which had to come from some really old trees.
Now that was a “find”! TN.

I am a bit worried that the foundation a bit low to ground,worry about rain ect spashing up and causing issues.I want to see end result,perhaps gutters,a skirt board of azek say 12″around base.Anyhow,a nice job and lets me appreciate having helpers when doing carpentry.
I was shocked at how much he was able to do on his own.
It is called working smart and it takes a lot of extra labor. Notice how many trips he took up and down the ladder for each step of the roof. A 17 y-o kid who was willing to work would have been a win-win situation, but maybe he did not have the money to pay anyone.
And no time to wait for his own kids to get old enough.
I noticed when they poured the foundation, I saw no plumbing pipes going to a septic tank.
I wonder what kind of indoor plumbing he is going to have?

We had that problem at home.
Even though we have brick veneer, it was always dirty after driving rains.
We landscaped with river rock.
Good drainage and no muddy mess.

It took me THREE attempts to get the above to actually post. The two other times the post showed up when I hit submit …. but only here, and not in the Dashboard. Then when I come back to this thread … it’s gone.

i got to do a super small scale version by building our shed. hauling sheets of osb and shingles onto the roof gets old after a bit.
i was fortunate to get all if the framing lumber, roof felt, shingles, and alum fascia trim for free (cast offs/left-over/garbage (!)) from a local builder.
i also made a point of designing the gable-to-base dimensions to the golden ratio (approx 1.62 to 1) 😃.
just wow!
