Did some research on this mess. It comes down to this, bestI can tell:

1) about 3.5 million homes worth of power was lost because no wind, no solar. Oops.

2) most of the rest is due to interruptions of power that uses natural gas. Well, it seems that unlike the rest of the country, TX does not store natural gas, but just pumps it out of the ground when needed. But funny thing – they can’t pump it now because, you know, baby it’s cold outside. So no gas, no electricity.

3) Texas does not have any ability to bring in power because they decided that to do so would mean they get affected by fed regs, and they ain’t doing that.

4) they have well and truly known for ten years that the system would collapse if it got cold, and they did nothing. Why? Well, the electric company is private, and to winterise would cost megabucks, probably billions, and there were no laws making them do it, so they decide we ain’t gonna do it, and people can freeze. There is no law forcing them to be capable of supplying energy if it gets cold, so they decided to take their chances.

5) they came within 10 minutes of turning Texas into Zimbabwe. Really. If they had waited another 10 minutes to cut the power, the entire system would have been destroyed. For months perhaps a year or more. Why, you ask? Good question. It seems if more energy is being drawn from the grid than is supplied, the entire system goes up in smoke. I think transformers and such shit themselves, and the entire system would have melted down. All the wetbacks would have simply waded back to Mexico, where there is, you know, electricity, but TX would have been fucked. Totally fucked. Maybe the lefties would have left too, as no way they could survive without lattes and microwaves.

So now, every elected official in the state is shitting their pants, running around like a mad woman pissing, and calling for an enquiry.

Here is an idea or two : 1) don’t make 3.5 million homes reliant on wind and solar. And 2) when you know that cold will kill the grid – which every fucking mother’s son knew – what say you pass a law where the fucking company that supplies the electricity has to a) store at least a few fucking days supply of the natural gas they need and b) winterise their plants and gas supplies so that they do not fucking freeze up.

Why did they not do those things? Well, re solar and wind, it is because they are morons.

Re natural gas stores and winterising everything, it is because that would flow through as increased electric bills, and the people would blame the lawmakers that passed the laws that drive up prices. So they took a chance that they would get away with kicking the can down the road.

You simply cannot make this shit up. Blaming the company for not winterising or not storing the gas is insane. Why would they do that, when they would struggle to recover the costs, esp. given the politicians are too shit scared to force them to do it.

The world is truly fucked.

I did some research too.

Looks like 3.5 million homes are without power because 3.5 million home owners believed that all they had to do was keep sucking at the infrastructure titty for their entire adult lives instead of planning for extenuating circumstances and providing for an alternative means of energy in the absence of delivered service.

Folks, the exact same scenario is going to take place again somewhere, only the next time it won’t be energy, it will be food or water and you won’t have a few weeks to get it back but a matter of days before your loved ones start dropping like flies.

You have an obligation to be the captain of your own life or to suffer whatever happens under the guidance of your surrogate daddy. How is it that tens of millions of people all have twitter handles and cellies, but no one thought to invest in alternative energy backup for their primary residence?

I did. Multi generators. Extra fuel, but not enough. Firewood galore. Propane. 40,000 gallons of fresh water. Booze to last even me a long time. Food stocks for about a year, including for the dogs. Ammo. Tools. Friends. Community.

Most folks cannot come up with $400. They will never come up with the money for a generator and enough fuel to run it for several days much less weeks or months. Water? Food? Forget about it.

I don’t think that the money is necessarily the problem for most people to overcome but rather fore thought and an actionable plan. Even small things they likely don’t consider. Just about everyone has a BBQ, theres your cooking grill and water boiler. Propane camping lights for evening and radiant heaters for heating a few rooms in your house. Small things that don’t take buying 4 – $5000 gensets.

But its like you say. Theres no planning for eventuals so most are left flat footed and raging that the guberment didn’t protect them. Its not that difficult to be somewhat prepared for an emergency event but many won’t because the roof only leaks when it rains.

Money is only a fraction of what is required to be prepared for the exigencies of life. One can be broke and self-reliant, I know I have, but a person who is dependent can have a huge bank account and be sitting in a house with a frozen fish tank right now if they haven’t prepared themselves for it.

Everything begins with a thought; do I want to be free and accept the risks that come with it, or do I wish to give up my autonomy completely in the belief that I will be taken care of by someone or something else, like a government. How is that working out for people in Texas this morning?

Once you decide which course of action you are going to go with, you have to accept the consequences of that choice. People who thought they’d always have power in their homes- rich and poor alike- are discovering how effective that plan is today. Tomorrow it may be food.

The past several years, especially this last one, are good indicators of just how effective a centralized system of control works at the boots on the ground level. For all the promises of a globalist system that frees people from want, from poverty, from violence, from need has instead proven that this is all they will ever experience. That the good times are merely brief interludes, like dreams that distract them from their empty existence for only brief periods between rioting, forced behaviors, government intrusion and perpetual erosion of any type of privacy or freedom and in exchange when shit goes off the rails, you’re on your own anyway.

Such a deal!

Down here where we get hurricanes you see some funny things. First though, where is FEMA? Isn’t this what they do? The press would be destroying a Republican President. But back to hurricanes. Everyone down here as a generator pretty much. Everyone has an attic full of gas cans. But here’s the kicker. In 2005 when we got smashed up by Hurricane Wilma, Jeb Bush had hundreds of semis stocked with supplies down in Homestead ready to head to distribution points as soon as the storm ended. Great job. First thing the next morning, the aboriginal residents of our area started lining up in Oakwood Plaza waiting for the trucks full of supplies to arrive. Back down at the homestead truck center, the guy sat staring at his cell phone on his desk in front of him, waiting for the call to send the trucks. He was too stupid to realize that the cell towers were down. It wasn’t until Dade County mayor Carlos Alvarez got in his helicopter and went down there and told him to send the trucks that he sent them, like three or four in the afternoon. When the trucks arrived, the aboriginal residents of my county were given two gallons of water and a bag of ice. They waited out in the sun for 8 hours. Our county water never went out.

As a former Boy Scout, “Be Prepared”. One can’t plan for everything that may happen, but if you don’t sit down to consider what might happen if the lights go out you have planned to fail. So as has become the new meme, “Just shut up!” Meanwhile, My family will continue staying warm in central Texas by my previously purchased propane heater and filled ahead of time propane tank.

But don’t you know we can vote our way out of this and fix the system. No self-reliance, self-sufficiency, and no critical thinking necessary.

Llpoh,
Concerning your point (2), a tidbit I found interesting is that the gas pumping used to be done by gas-fired engines, and was converted to electric motor driven pumps. That was a tremendously stupid move on someone’s part!

Indeed. Check this out, Llpoh. Remember what we were talking about in terms of electric pumps? The EPA needs to be shuttered. We are fucked.

Q: What is the name of the entity which operates/manages the electrical grid in Texas?

A: The ELECTRIC RELIABILITY Council of Texas (ERCOT)

Now, if you don’t find that funny as shit, you have no sense of humor.

If it is government-run or sponsored, the intention of the service or product being offered is the opposite.

What constantly surprises me, and it shouldn’t by now, is that this is much the same mentality of those whose retirement plan rests on winning the lottery. BEYOND stupid , a whole new level of special.
