More than 150 people were arrested over Spring Break weekend in Miami, as partygoers ignored the Mayor’s COVID warnings and descended on the town.
Over 120 of those arrested were nabbed on Friday alone, according to the Daily Mail, which noted that police seized guns, drugs and cash amid violent confrontations Friday evening which required the deployment of crowd control measures, including pepper balls.
On Saturday things quieted down with just 30 arrests made. In total, 42 people were charged with felonies over the weekend. Crack cocaine, crystal meth, marijuana and cash were all seized in the arrests, as well as guns, a balaclava and cartridges.
Two officers were injured and were transported to the hospital during the unrest.
“The crowd ended up turning on those officers,” said Ernesto Rodriguez of the Miami Beach Police in a statement to Local10.
Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber responded to the situation, saying “We’re seeing too much spring break activity,” adding “We’ve got a problem with too many people coming here. We’ve got a problem with too many people coming here to let loose.”
Matthew Wellington, public health campaigns director for the nonprofit U.S. Public Interest Research Group, told The Orlando Sentinel: “There’s definitely a concern that the spring breakers who are traveling to Florida might bring home more than just the souvenir shot glass this year.” (via the Daily Mail) “We know this virus thrives on people traveling,” he added.

In my area, IN THE SAME TOWN, two different restaurants:
Eatery 1 has live music, pretty damn crowded and I guarantee exceeding “capacity limits”. Very, very loose mask enforcement to the point it’s pretty much non-existent.
Eatery 2, less than a mile away, will only allow acoustic music with no singing, enforced socially distanced tables and much stink-eye given regarding masks.
Everyone knows to go to Eatery 1. Eatery 1 is packed pretty much all night and no one gives a flying fuck. Also, their windows are heavily tinted so that random Karens are unable to just stroll by and be shocked at humans living their lives and having fun, and thus avoids the backlash. Thus the snitchery is kept away.
Conversation with a friend on Saturday:
“Where do you want to meet up? Let’s go to Blank Blank Tavern in Blank. I like how they are not mask nazis!”
Me talking to my other friend who is a NURSE:
“what did you do this weekend?”
“Oh I had a blast, my whole nursing class got together INDOORS and had a party it was a blast!” (no masks were worn at this even, I saw the pics)
And I’m quite sure Tinder was afire with random strangers engaging in random acts of bodily fluid swapping sans masks and quite likely sans condoms as well.
Birthday parties were held for 9 year olds, they ran around, screamed, laughed, and played all without masks. The horror!

18-20 somethings, fully exposed, soaking up UV radiation and producing massive amounts of vitamin D, are EXACTLY what these folks need. Had we allowed all the healthiest of the healthy (including everyone under 18 as well) to get out last spring and summer, get exposed, produce the T-cells and antibodies that lead to immunity, etc., we might never have seen a spike of whatever that was last fall. It is SO WONDERFUL to see folks without masks, gathering in the sun, exercising the wonderful immune systems that god gave them, in the best ways possible. Indeed, alcohol consumption and processed food consumption hinders that a bit, but still wonderful to see. Bring in more and more and more folks!!!!

They were arrested for drugs, weapons, clashing with the cops, ect. Which sounds more like antifa than spring break partiers. Not that they don’t get rowdy and do drugs, they usually try to avoid getting arrested. That said, Miami still enforces mask rules as do other blue infested cities and counties. DeSantis does nothing about it. He would have to send in the state police to clash with the county cops. Same thing goes on in other so called mask free states. It’s a local thing and will continue to be that way for the time being.
And possession of a balaclava. Don’t omit that egregious offense.

Up until the later 70s Miami Beach was know as God’s waiting room. Old folks soaking up the last rays of life then quietly shuffling off to the great reward.
The now hotels and condos were distressed, decrepit apts.
When the condo craze started you could buy one for $14k as an average.
South Beach is glitz without much substance.
South Florida has many remarkable sites and things to do but as usual you have to be a local to know the ins and outs. Most just party on the beach and that’s are far as they get into this remarkable place. Too bad.
