I have real eggs almost every single day. From real chickens.

Even, for a while, turkey eggs. From a now frozen turkey.

I’m trying to figure out what sort of plants were processed in the making of those eggs.

And, what sort of chemical flavoring added.

You most likely don’t want to know. I understand it takes over 21 different chemicals to make the bk meatless burger. My question is how does one know what you are getting if you don’t raise it yourself?

Usually to process plants into eggs we feed them to the chickens first.

I just finished a wonderful breakfast. Smoked beef cut into bits (olive oil), sautéed with – in order – sweet onions w/tarragon (butter), bell pepper w/basil (olive oil), mushrooms w/marjoram (butter) and topped with tomato and avocado. 2 fresh fried eggs w/salt & pepper (olive oil) on top of all that.
I don’t think their ‘JUST’ can compare.

Most people are ignorant about food in almost every way.
Hens will lay an egg about every 24 hours, with or without a rooster around. The Hens aren’t eating the eggs, so why not have humans eat them?
Grass fed beef is raised in harmony with nature and raising cows this way is actually GOOD for the environment
Concentrated Animal Feed Operations are horrible polluters, feed cows grain, which is not their natural diet, makes them unhealthy, which is further exacerbated by how many cows are crammed into one area, so yeah, they need to be on massive antibiotics. A grass fed, pastured animal is healthy and does not need all this medical intervention.
Pigs raised this way suffer particularly. Sows are kept in very tiny pens, which amounts to torture. Pigs are extremely social, and about on the same intellect level as a dog. They go insane when raised commercially
The pollution from CAFOs is extreme and for whatever reason is allowed to continue. You can figure that part out by yourself.
Now I have heard the arguments regarding the “need” for CAFOs and quite frankly, I personally think most of them are BS.
One thing that most Americans are totally ignorant of is China’s ownership of one of the biggest hog producers in the world:
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-china-swinefever-smithfield-foods-foc-idUSKBN1XF0XC
Why? China does not care about pollution at home, you think they give a rat’s ass about it here?
A switch to 100% plant based diet is not any more “sustainable” or better for the environment:
https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/article/going-vegan-isnt-actually-th/
Of course this was written in 2016 and so the New Magic is in vogue so we have to go with that.
And of course the way this fake meat is made is scary as fuck and I have written comments about it before, but go do some research on your own. I have a family member that was healthy and very athletic prior to switching to veganism, at which point his health went down the toilet. He was a big consumer of this fake meat crap. He has since gotten it out of his diet and added in fish and eggs and is doing better.
Does anyone think for one second that all these very profitable CAFOs are just going to shut down in the name of My Climate Change ™? Yeah, of course not.
There is really no culture, now or historically, that was ever 100% vegan, at least not successfully. You can poke around and read about John Fielder, who ran a vegan commune out in Australia in the 70s. It did not go well.

Hey RE Pup,

Excellent summary. I have studied this stuff a LOT because diet, exercise and leading a natural outdoors sea gypsy life is my only health insurance. IMHO the Standard American Diet is the worst in the world. The Second worst is VEGANISM. There are a ton of vids from former vegans out there describing how that diet massacred most of their vital biological systems. I recommend Lierre Keith’s THE VEGETARIAN MYTH as a great book to introduce you to the truth about this … cultish way of eating. Good Youtube sources are Paul Saladino and Mark Sisson.

Pup is right. Pasture raised beef is the true miracle food.

Your enemies are sugar, carbs, industrial seed oils and highly processed foods. I hope this helps.

If you really want to dive down the food ignorance Rabbit Hole, take a look at the (mis)info that we have been force-fed about vegetables and fiber.

I like technology. That is, new products that people can buy, and then choose to do so because they think it’s a good product. The artificial meat space is looking very promising right now, and I’d love to have some competent offerings.

Yes, of course, the product at hand isn’t very good. More expensive than the original, inferior in taste, texture and handling, but most of all, inferior nutritional profile. Nutrition in particular really kills most plant based replacement schemes for me. They’re so focused on taste and texture, they completely ignore if the product can actually feed you.

Cultivated meat, is, of course, real meat. The nutrition is great. It’s hard to cultivate it into proper parts, so most of it comes out as ground meat or sausage. And of course, they’ve as of yet failed to achieve a viable price level. I’m most optimistic for the near future of cultivated exotics. I know a lot of bioreactors are working with chicken, it’s easy and all, but chickens are of course, the cheapest of the cheap, you’re really setting the bar too high. I’ve seen companies that can produce chicken at three times normal price, there are meats that are three times as expensive as chicken, if they had say, cultivated shark, or cultivated lobster, turtles, whales, roe…

Conversely, I do wish well for the plant based side, I think they’ll lose out to the bioreactors in the days to come but, one of the problems with the plant based meat field right now, it hasn’t been winnowed. There are some pretty decent products out there, but customers haven’t realized this, and continue to buy from companies that are more visible, have better advertising, or just happened to be what they found. With that said, the customer base really wants a good eating experience, but once most artificial eggs are of decent quality, nutrition should be the natural next point of competition.

Bioreactors do have certain drawbacks. They’re a roundabout way of producing meat, and as is frequently pointed out, the more you optimize a bioreactor, the more it looks like an animal. Of course, the other side is, bioreactors can produce pure meat without any waste products, so even if the efficiency is low, it is possible to compete with real animals.

If we could just put together meat from constituent parts without growing it at all, or by piecing it together from easily grown plants, etc., actually, probably from specially developed bacteria? In the end, meat substitution, true meat factories, are the way to go.

May 21, 2021 8:01 am

[sarcasm] Yes, and then when meat production becomes a big expensive high tech endeavor like pharmaceuticals, we can buy off the politicians to make ‘legacy’ meat production illegal. Naturally we will have to have a massive advertising campaign with ads like the above to convince the public they want this stuff. Once two or three players own the entire world market, we can cut back on quality. Governments will require certain additives of unknown composition, but you have to keep them happy. The protein will be rationed according to social credit score. We will have to produce some meat the old way for quality control purposes, and we wouldn’t want that to go to waste, so that can go to societies elites. So good of them to take on that dirty job! [/sarcasm]

“Carbon units are not a real life form” –Vger, Star Trek
So vger, a life formed by accident of Human tech and something it found far out there, meets this ship with Humans in it, and tries to talk to the ship, thinking its the ship thats alive and Humans are some kind of cell or parasites or symbiotic life (unknown which) that happen to live in the ship. To find out whats going on, Vger builds a probe that looks like Humans, enters the ship, and looks around. Humans talk to it, but its not there to understand Humans. It wants to talk to the ship. The Humans persist in telling it they created some of the tech that led to Vger’s creation before it went out into space, and Vger responds “carbon units are not a real life form”. It thinks only machines are alive. Carbon units, of course refers to Humans being made of carbon.”

Optimism is, mostly, unwarranted. The commies, et al aren’t running themselves out of town. Commies et al are “the town.” The tragedy of the commons is the commons.

Common survived the bear – & didn’t survive the bear. Schrödinger ‘s Common.

Perpetual motion machine dreams, at or near as possible zero carbon footprint, will not abate (have never abated). Soylent green – the customer can have any shade s/he wants, so long as it’s green – is the future. Mostly.

Anybody know where I can get a coat like Von Sydow wore into the wasteland?
