I wrote an email to the Minister of Justice in Nova Scotia a couple of months back.

It probably put me on the special list the gubmit keeps….

I wasn’t being very stoic at the time but in my defense, I did have good reasons. See I gotten into a spat online with some boot lickin’ retard from the Annapolis County. In the course of the shit show, he said some things and I said some back. He ended up accusing me of being a sociopath. Maybe I am but maybe that fellow is too!

I recently thought of you. An ambulance, with siren and lighting blaring and flashing, drove through the village I live in. Traffic pulled to the side of the road. Would you? You obviously weren’t in the back and moving aside could be an assault on your freedom of movement.

I wrote him a nasty response back and told him to go fuck himself sideways with a rusty chainsaw, or something to that effect.. this was running concurrently with going on a drive to pick up my grandson for a weekend visit.

That young man got into my car, fully masked, I told him to take it off.

Whatta fucked up world we live in where six-year-old boys are expected to protect grown men. My first impulse after thinking about it moar was to write that retard another nasty note. Then I thought, I’m bitching to the wrong person. What in the fuck is helphealthcare going to do about current fix..

So I wrote an email to Minister Of Justice of Nova Scotia instead. Thinking it would be a one-and-done thing I was particularly petulant. Reading it now my words write like a child to parent complaining about having to be home for a certain time…

I started with a typical TBP rant!

I am writing to demand my rights back. And when I say my Rights I mean all of them. I do not recall at any point in the last year that the notwithstanding clause was invoked to abrogate my Charter Rights and Freedoms. But let us be honest, who is kidding who? Your Government at no point had the balls to sit in Legislature to even carry on the pretense of a debate. Joe Howe must be spinning in his grave.

Having waited over a year for two weeks to flatten the curve, I am done with this abomination. It has gone on long enough. If you insist as Justice Minister to continue to allow decrees to be issued by this regime then we no longer live in a democracy and you by your inaction are guilty as charged of malfeasance.

Just following orders is not going to cut it.

Yeah it is a longshot. You have all the cards in the deck stacked against us but history will not be kind to people like you when this fraud is finally exposed.

This medical tyranny needs to end.

Then shocker I get a response

Mr. Thompson,

I appreciate the frustration Public Health Order restrictions create – we have all been living with these limitations for a year now.

As it relates to the legality of the Public Health Order and specifically the Charter, it does allow for the restriction of individual freedoms in exceptional circumstances for the public good. The legality of COVID public health restrictions, as it relates to freedom of religion, was recently ruled on in a BC court. The court ruled the restrictions did not violate the Charter, given the circumstances of the pandemic.

The Health Protection Act, which gives the Chief Public Health Officer the authority to issue these directives was debated publicly in the legislature years ago, in anticipation of circumstances such as this current pandemic. Members of the Legislature of the day had the foresight to recognize that in a public health emergency time for public debate could cost lives, and thus created the provisions that have enabled NS to be a leader in our response to managing both the health and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

I am truly sorry for your frustration, and the personal toll you have experienced due to the public health restrictions that have been put in place. However, as it stands to the legality of the directives in place, I have to advise you that the province and our Chief Public Health Officer are on the right side of the law.

First off what I have to say may surprise you. I agree. The regulations as written don’t contravene the charter in law. The reason I say that is because the mandates you are imposing are not laws. If I fail to wear a mask I have committed no crime. So when you talk about laws you are telling a white lie. Not a first for a politician. All you can do with your mandates is impose fines and treating the entire matter in eyes of the court as no better than a traffic ticket. A chickenshit move, if ever there was one.

I am not surprised that you mentioned the BC lower court ruling. Methinks that will be overturned on appeal.

In any case, you are on the wrong side of history on this one bud. Asking a six-year-old that it is up to him to protect (grown men) is arse backward to what should be happening. As long (as you) preside over this fiasco, where 99.7% of people survive contact with this not so deadly virus there is no justice and you sir are a Minister without portfolio.

I appreciate that you have no respect for me, or it would seem politicians in general, nor for the offices I hold.

That said, I believe it is my responsibility to advise that you are factually mistaken as it relates to the legislation giving authority to the public health orders in effect for this pandemic.

As previously referenced, the legislation is the Health Protection Act, and the penalties defined in this act include the provision for both financial penalty and jail time.

For your reference, the penalties are outlined in S71 of the act.

Offences and penalties

71 (1) Every person who fails to comply with this Part or the regulations or with an order made pursuant to this Part or the regulations is guilty of an offence and is liable on summary conviction to

(a) in the case of a corporation, a fine not exceeding ten thousand dollars; or

(b) in the case of an individual, a fine not exceeding two thousand dollars or to imprisonment for a term of not more than six months, or both.

(2) Where an offence under this Part or the regulations is committed or continued on more than one day, the person who committed the offence is liable to be convicted for a separate offense for each day on which the offence is committed or continued.

(3) Notwithstanding subsection (1), a person who is guilty of a second or subsequent offence, other than by virtue of subsection (2), is liable to

(a) in the case of a corporation, a fine of not exceeding fifty thousand dollars; or

(b) in the case of an individual, a fine not exceeding ten thousand dollars or to imprisonment for a period of not more than one year, or both. 2004, c. 4, s. 71.

Although at present, only fines have been issued, for more egregious or repeat offences, charges may be brought forward and a court could impose more severe penalties.

To that end, I encourage you to continue to follow the public health order issued by the Chief Public Health Officer, in accordance with the Health Protection Act, despite your frustrations and disagreement with the legislation and specific orders.
