Bingo. My wife and I have had almost this exact same conversation. We are surrounded by an Idiocracy growing around us like weeds, but the question we keep returning to is – where to go?

Nice pull Francis. Where to go? Good question, no good answer. Me I’m too vested in being a free man to change, yet too tired to run. Brother Dege nailed it. “I’m too old to die young now.”

Wow. Bullseye.
I remember this movie from the 80s. I had forgotten just how good it was. I never could have believed it was this prescient.
Thanks for this.
Cheers
We escaped the US in 2012 and haven’t looked back. We have been living on one social security check of $1400 in both Ecuador and Moldova……and live well. There isn’t a chance on God’s Green Earth that we could live in America with our income.
That video clip was from the 1981 film “My Dinner With Andre”, and I once posted it in a July, 2019 article entitled “America’s Well-Documented Decline Amid Wars in the Air”; comparing it to the 1976 film “Network” and the following quote:
We deal in illusions, man. None of it is true! But you people sit there day after day, night after night, all ages, colors, creeds. We’re all you know. You’re beginning to believe the illusions we’re spinning here. You’re beginning to think that the tube is reality and that your own lives are unreal. You do whatever the tube tells you. You dress like the tube, you eat like the tube, you raise your children like the tube. You even think like the tube. This is mass madness. You maniacs. In God’s name, you people are the real thing. We are the illusion. So turn off your television sets. Turn them off now. Turn them off right now. Turn them off and leave them off. Turn them off right in the middle of this sentence I am speaking to you now. Turn them off!
– “Network”, (1976), MGM/United Artists
The July 2019 “Wars in the Air” article (hyperlinked above) remains relevant to our current circumstances and even addresses the exact dilemmas posted here on TBP in the last 2 days; to wit, NC Renegade’s “Why Do We Wait” and Wilder’s “Response to Mr. Biden”.
I tossed the teevee back when they switched to HD and wanted everyone to pay for cable. Why pay for advertising and brainwashing? Have not missed it one bit.
The movie venn diagram for the world today is Idiocracy, Being There, Catch-22, Network, 1984 and Atlas Shrugged. Add more as you see fit…
I haven’t see it either. Actually, never even heard of it until now.
Entire movie available on Youtube. I might watch it tonight.

Indeed; where to go? Used to be, a person could “escape” a blue state for a red state. Unfortunately, the current crop in d’gubeyent is doing its level best to transform the entire country into an elephant-sized version of California.
…Folks, America is it. There’s no place to run to from here. Running anywhere else is settling for less than what you’re running from . FIGHT, DAMMIT!
The guy from goya beans articulated this quite well in his lengthy speech at the RNC convention last year. There’s nowhere to go and it’s put up or shut up time

Everyone below on where to go?
1. Wyoming
2. South Dakota with the feisty kick ass vwery business friendly cow girl lady governor.
Numbering could easily be switched.
They will still come after you. They want you dead and that will be the end result. Your location is known from various sources and all the have to do is send the death squads out to find out.

I saw MDWA when I was in the Army at the post theater. I was the only one in the room and I remember thinking that it wasn’t so much a movie as theater piece, like Spalding Gray’s stuff. I have no idea how they ever got it made, as esoteric as it was for most people, but some of the soliloquies were just great, like this one.
It was the first time I ever heard the Satie piece at the end, one of my all time favorites now.
What movie is this? I have not seen it.
My Dinner With Andre
(As I recall)
Thank you.

Did you catch the serialized version of Catch-22?
It was great.
I suppose a series could, conceivably, capture the convoluted nuance of Heller’s tale better than the 1970 film. Maybe so?
I’d never seen nor heard of that movie before now.
Thank you very much!
