“Have you ever noticed,” said Dimble, “that the universe, and every bit of the universe is always hardening and narrowing and coming to a point?”
His wife waited as those wait who know by long experience the mental processes of the person who is talking to them.
“I mean this,” said Dimble in answer to the question she had not asked. “If you dip into any college, or school, or parish, or family – anything you like – at a given point in its history, you always find that there was a time before that point when there was more elbow room and contrasts weren’t quite so sharp; and that there’s going to be a time after that point when there is even less room for indecision and choices are even more momentous. Good is always getting better and bad is always getting worse: the possibilities of even apparent neutrality are always diminishing. The whole thing is sorting itself out all the time, coming to a point, getting sharper and harder.”
I am sure most readers of this blog will be familiar with these words from C.S. Lewis, one of the wisest men of the last century and a prophet for these times. They are in his novel That Hideous Strength which is a better book than either Brave New World or 1984 though not nearly as celebrated, very probably because it is a Christian book. I compare it with those two as it covers similar terrain. If you haven’t read it you need to do so as soon as possible. It will help you make sense of the present time.
Bruce Charlton often mentions the idea of things coming to point. What this means is that good and bad, moral white and black, become more separated and there is no neutral ground between them, no grey areas which one might suppose that at one time there were. There never were really but the splitting apart becomes more obvious as the End Times gathers pace. The good and the bad become more clearly delineated and you have to make an active choice. Sitting on the fence is no longer possible. The last 18 months have seen a dramatic intensification of that process.
Things that you might have thought were on one side are now revealed as being on the other side. These things include all ideologies associated with what we call leftism which might at one time have seemed ‘progressive’ meaning tending towards the evolution of the human being but are now more easily seen as destructive of a true spiritual consciousness. Those who are more attached to the destructive aspects of leftism (even if they call these humanistic) will stay with it and put themselves in the camp of the demons.
Those who really are interested in a spiritual consciousness will now have to reject all aspects of leftism and that will be hard for many people because these have seemed to be on the side of the good for a long while to those who lack proper spiritual discernment. You are going to have to admit you have been duped. This will require a large dose of humility because you will have to confront the fact that what attracted you to the leftist position was actually part of the old unregenerate fallen man. It was your egotism. If you are a man you are going to have to bow your head to God and accept you are a sinner.
If you are a woman you are going to have to reject feminism, Satan’s most recent temptation to the female sex, and that is going to be tough. Your apparent ticket to freedom and fulfillment is actually a deep and dark curse. You ate the apple because it was sweet but it is really poisonous.
Now is the time that good and bad are drawing apart but this will only be apparent to those who have good within them. If you don’t have that you are going to be in trouble because that is what this is all about. It’s to draw out the good in those in whom it is present and reveal the evil in those who gravitate more naturally to that. The position to take won’t be obvious to the earthly mind, the mind corrupted by 3 centuries of atheism and materialism and the teaching of dark prophets from Marx to Freud and including many of the famous names in all fields of human endeavour over the last couple of centuries.
In a way the odds are stacked against you because most of your modern education and cultural influences have been on the wrong side. But you have the light of God within you and if you are faithful to the truth that light will illumine your mind and release you from the evil influences that are so prevalent. Besides, there are good influences too and C.S Lewis was a major one. Above all stands the figure of Christ.
Unfortunately, however, in the world today the evil influences are rampant. One might even say they are triumphant and all the more so since totally unrecognised by the majority. I say they are unrecognised because most people don’t know what evil actually is. In fact, it’s very simple. Evil is that which separates from God. It does this either by denying him outright or by deforming him as in religion which submits to the world or by encouraging the breaking or transgressing of the laws of creation. Now can you see how we live in a world of evil?
To speak of things coming to a point and of the gap between good and evil widening to such a degree that there are sheep and there are goats depending on which side you fall might lead to an accusation that I am demonising those who don’t agree with me, and look where that has got us in the past. But I am not demonising anybody. The truth is those who fail to reject evil and embrace spiritual good are demonising themselves. Possibly quite literally in some cases. Anyway, the point is there is good and there is evil and they have to do with an acknowledgement in the heart or lack of it of God, your Creator.
The bad news is you can make the wrong choice because there is nothing that is going to force your hand. It’s a test of your inner integrity, your spiritual authenticity. The good news is that your choice, if it’s the worldly one, is not set in stone as it now stands. You can turn to God at any time as long as you do so sincerely. Of course, in terms of behaviour, you will still stumble and even fall many times but what matters above all now is the direction of your heart. The needle must point due north to God.

Doc, you wrote this? It is what I needed at this very moment. Thank you.
It’s from “Via Meeting The Masters” … link highlighted in blue at the top just under ‘Submitted by Doctor de Vaca’.
Not that it matters. Nice article … glad the Doc submitted it.
I could find nothing in it to disagree with. The same light has spoken to me and said the same things. I have known that to be the true definition of evil for a while now and it is profound to know that.
I do know that some minds need the help of medicine to heal, because it is hard to turn the lights back on. I mean this a bit OT, but basically I think this guy is on the right track:
Dr. Amen does understand the role of God and spirituality in healing. He also understand God’s gifts are many and what better way to use them than to get people healthy enough to find God. Hi approach is one such way.
I could only wish I could write this well. Author is William Wildblood.
It’s a HELL of a choice.
Yup.
The dude with the glasses is me.
I used to want to stare at the doors until they gave me a good option, too. Then I convinced myself that I would do the best that I could with one of the doors. Then I realized I don’t have to go through either and it was always a false choice.
Absolutely true. You truly ought to read it if you never have. I think even non-believers would enjoy it, get a lot out of it.
It’s now on my list

Looks like it is part of a series. Would it make sense to read on its own?
Yes, it can. I did and then read the other two.
The book is part of CL Lewis’s Space Trilogy.
If possible read them in order to get a sense of what is going on. If you like to read treat yourself with owning this set, Winter is coming.
The story gets much more complex as it progresses, was written about the same time as Lord of The Rings. Lewis and Tolkien were friends.
One is not beaten about the head with Christianity in these three books.

I have a collection of CS Lewis and do like his style but had not read this. The summary below sounds eerie.
I thought it was a very good video. What are your concerns?
Thanks, Doc. That was a good one.
“in terms of behaviour, you will still stumble and even fall many times but what matters above all now is the direction of your heart.”
When you fall, Jesus is there to catch you and set you back on your path. I know because I took the wrong path for many years. When I had had enough, I cried out for Jesus to help me, because I could not do it alone. Immediately, I felt a warmth and was refreshed ready to face a terrible situation. He is there waiting on you to invite him in, whether it is for the first time or the umpteenth time. It is not too late, until you draw your last breath.
“Now is the time that good and bad are drawing apart but this will only be apparent to those who have good within them. If you don’t have that you are going to be in trouble because that is what this is all about. It’s to draw out the good in those in whom it is present and reveal the evil in those who gravitate more naturally to that. ”
I see TBP people as the good ones, mostly, as I replied to the about us, we think alike.
I remember well during the 2012 Democratic National Convention how they refused to place the name of God in their platform. They did so by voice vote. Not once. Not twice. But like Saint Peter, 3 times they denied God a place among them. I remember watching in disbelief as a chill came over me. Not a doubt in my mind where we are today and where we’re going tomorrow.
You sir have fans.
Democrats can no more make room for God than Satan can.
The real tragedy would been if they DID include God in their platform. What a goddamned (literally) hypocrite joke that would have been.
I don’t think God is a member of any political parties. Hypocritical “faith” would be an improvement. Just as one should not toy with darkness, if one doesn’t want to become tainted, I assume the reverse to be true.
That is what this moving to a 1-dimensional point is about.
Nice to see I am not the only Charlton and friends reader here. Guess I’m another Doc. Loong time lurker, infrequent commentator. Actually a retired army PA and helo pilot. Troops always called us “Doc” and it stuck.
One of my fellow Patriot Guard buddies was a Navy Corpsman attached to the Marines, we both carry the Doc moniker.
Anyone getting the feeling that occurrences in their life be it even small that you dismissed as random in prior times , might not be so random?
My logical mind is beginning to get suspicious.
I’ve spoken of this, on here a few times and to friends/family over the last 10/15 years or so; the light is getting brighter and the dark is getting darker. It’s a trend, not yet the absolute it will be.
From a Christian perspective there’s actually a silver lining in this increasingly gloomy cloud. The true condition of hearts is being revealed. And that is exactly what Jesus is all about. There’s no longer any of the pressures to appear ‘churchy’, whether they were social, economic or political. There’s no real stigma attached nowadays to refusing to profess a belief in God. In fact, it’s becoming more and more the opposite. Now the stigma is shifting onto those who would claim to accept Christ. The external restraints have been removed and now the internal, the true heart, can show forth.
There ya go. A bit of pocket theology.
I agree with you but light appears lighter the darker it gets. The “light” hasn’t changed but the dark sure has!
My thanks as well.felt it but could not verbalise it. The righteous have always been the ultimate victor, he wants it that way.
The book of Revelation springs to mind, mainly because it was the subject of a previous article, but it does fit the shape of this article as well. If the Bible is considered from Genesis to Revelation, the Bible closes with mankind at his furthest point from God, with mans goal to rise up with his power and technology to attempt to defeat his own creator as well as the creator of the universe; pretty ballsey, I’d say.
The good news is there is no hiding place. As stated in the article, you cannot just sit in a pew and expect to be swept along with the true believers; choices must be made. As the divide increases, it will become more and more obvious which side you find yourself on and the steps you must take to be found on the side of pursuing Christ, or being swept away in the flood of those who desire to replace God with themselves.
To those who are confident in the belief that God is a figment of weak men’s imagination, you may need to come to terms why is there such a violent hatred by some against God, if he is just someone’s imagination. Especially as you see the new age approaching of mans attempt to Build Back Better by initiating a great reset and starting a new glorious age, where man is on the throne and all the supposed superstitions of weak minded men have been put to rest.
Vengeance is mine says the Lord and it seems just around the corner.
I was wrong about that book. I used to discount it. I was arrogant. I do not see prophesy in it as such, but the outline of the cycles and the assertion that eventually there will be a last one. There is a lot of wisdom in it that doesn’t have to be about end times. I have decided to stop worrying about what other people get out of it, because the proof of its divinity is that it all gets us to the same place.
Amen. Beautiful and perfect.
C.S. Lewis, Tolkien, G.K. Chesterton, and Joseph Pearce definitely played a part in my conversion (I’m not Catholic, however).
If you don’t know Joseph Pearce’s story, he’s worth researching…an amazing example of how God finds ways to bring you through your darkest days and closer to Him. Here’s a teaser from Pearce to entice you.
“The worst thing about solitary confinement, and the thing about that that strikes fear into the hearts of most prisoners, is the lack of company, the absence of anyone with whom to share one’s thoughts… most prisoners are scared of solitary confinement because they do not know the comfort and company to be found in books, or more accurately, the comfort and company to be found in the authors of books… Authors long since released from this mortal coil, remain alive in their books. It is due to this delightful company of the dead that I look back with a good deal of fondness to the time that I spent in solitary confinement…” – Race With The Devil
Hiked many miles the last few days and went rafting surrounded by majestic powerful beauty and perfect order and wondered how anyone cannot believe in a higher power. Raised by atheists, I was fortunate to see the powerful hand of God up close and personal the last two years. For brevity’s sake, my family members are now believers. The timing has been suspicious. I don’t believe in coincidences.
Do you also get the sense that night and day are inseparable parts of a cycle? Your domesticated self sheding it’s skin and becoming more and more alert?
Energy is definitely moving from one place to the other over cycles. Returning to the act of child play where the outcome wasn’t important and there was knowing without knowledge.
What about Tolkien would make you a christian, other than just respect for the man?
” Due north to God” I really like that.
Apply Physics to Heaven for the win ! All energy and therefore life comes from the sun, which comes from God. Ok, the big bang, Happy ? You can’t destroy, or create energy PERIOD. You can however store, move, or change energy, that’s it. God’s laws, not mans. So based on God’s law is there a heaven ? Based on physics is there life after death ? Yes, Yes, and Yes when you die your energy doesn’t just fly off to nothingness, Your inner self, that which makes us living men, not corpses is changed and travels somewhere. God, and his laws of physics make a fact out of the afterlife. ……. Oh, and since heaven does exist. So does God. (spoke to me once, low life me, and frankly in a word I was “Awestruck”. If it’s happened to you, you’ll understand if it hasn’t you won’t)
it’s already a big matter to hear that message. it’s an even bigger matter to understand it. i’ve heard it, but i am still puzzling about whether i interpreted it correctly. Part of this is that we get a hint or a message, but we arent going to get everything just laid out ready in front of us. we’re free to make our own decisions and actions.. and to endlessly wonder whether we made the best ones we could or whether we screwed up!
If it were easy to just lay it out, it wouldn’t be so beautiful. HSF said something about personal knowledge and how one can truly have knowledge of something. I think it is along those lines. It is beautiful enough to want to share, and at the same time you can’t show anyone directly.
What makes us living men (and women) are cells, blood, organs, etc. … just like animals. We are material beings.
But, some say we are also spiritual beings. I’m guessing that’s what you mean by “inner self”. But,”spiritual being” is sort of fuzzy and nebulous … doesn’t really convey anything. So, I don’t think I’m wrong in equating our inner self with consciousness. Now we’re getting somewhere!
========
I’m going to use “matter”, instead of “energy” since they are identical. (E=mC^2).
When we die, our “matter” isn’t destroyed, but it is changed (to dust you shall return) or dissipated into the cosmos. Now comes the big question. Is that matter (energy) dissipated, or does it remain coherent? In other words, does personality survive death? No one really knows … except by faith.
But, consciousness is NOT matter. For example, my inner self experiences, due largely to TBP doom porn, anger. But, you can’t touch anger, smell it, measure it on a scale …. because it is not a physical thing. Yet, there it is! So, where the hell does it come from??
Well, … the brain, is the answer given by most everyone. But, HOW can that be? HOW does the passing around of electrical and chemical signals between 100 billion neurons , each with 10,000 connections(resulting in 10 trillion nerve connections) …. result in a feeling of anger or an experience of red? No one truly knows.
Hell, scientists don’t even truly know what matter actually is. That physics you talk about is confined to telling us mostly about how matter BEHAVES. The mass and charge of matter are properties which are entirely defined in terms of behavior; attraction, repulsion, resistance to acceleration, etc. Always behavior. But, physics tell us absolutely nothing about what in philosophy refers to as “the intrinsic nature of a thing” — in this case, what matter is in and of itself.
We have similar problems understand the intrinsic nature of consciousness. The very essence of consciousness , the thing itself, is not observable or measurable. All you have is the resultant behavior as “proof” that it exists.
Jeez, I had no intent of blabbering so much! I’m sorry. I don’t even know if I’m making any sense, really.
========
Let me close with what I really wanted to ask from the get go … the million dollar question;
What gives rise to consciousness?? Where does it come from?
— If it is the brain, then death is the final and total end of you, and me. When you die, both your outer self (the body) AND your inner self (consciousness / personality) are forever dissipated into the universe … still part of the cosmos, not destroyed, but scattered and incoherent There is simply no other valid conclusion.
— If consciousness arises separate from the brain … then everything materialist Newtonian physics has told us for the past 400 years is WRONG!! If brain is not necessary for consciousness then it must absolutely be true that personality survives death. Any other conclusion makes no sense.
—— Some scientists, especially the Quantum Physics guys, are now postulating that the observable universe exists only because of conscious observers! That consciousness, not the Big Bang, was the ultimate cause of all that exists, and continues to maintain its existence.
—— Many people assert, as do I, that this conscious observer goes by the name of God.
My dad is still there, or here, somewhere. We shall meet again ….
Amazing to me that as far as we’ve gotten with our technology and reason, that the dwelling place of our soul is still as unknown as it was when we first put two thoughts together in a stream of consciousness.
But our essence exists, it does not cease to exist when our body runs out and we will be connected with our creator as well as our loved ones when this mortal coil is cast off.
Good things to remember as the world becomes more chaotic.
We are limited by our bodies, which the brain is a part of. A part of that temple. I think Jesus came to best explain why it is the journey and our hearts that matter most, because we can not know the limitations of others, and they can not always be blamed themselves for those limitations. There is no destination that says “The End, you made it. Congratulations.” We will all move along as we are able and all we can do is help each other. Never to “make the world a better place”, because that is not how it works. The only places that can be made better are occupied by people and that is entirely voluntary. One must provide good soil to get something to grow voluntarily.
If it were important for us to know the details of the mysteries, I am sure God would have provided.
Why not indeed?
(From the summary of That Hideous Strength… spoiler alert)
Good article. I have never been a holy roller as I was brought up that your relationship with the maker is a personal one. I have run across libs that scoff at and ridicule religion. They automatically make my do not associate with list. They consider it being enlightened but are usually just low brow perverse scum once you cut to the chase.
I have come to the point that these people know no bounds and will try to eliminate us by any means possible. My Christian charity fields of fucks are barren for them. Distance yourself from the evil brainwashed dupes and be vigilant. Their goal is to destroy anything that has to do with our culture and and beliefs. There is nothing of beauty or civility they want. They want the perverse and evil to reign over decent people
There is nothing charitable about comforting evil. Hedonism is their values, they wouldn’t notice anyways.
Yes, less “Turn the other cheek” and more “smite my enemies.”
The argument would be more persuasive for agnostics if you substituted the word truth for God.
