SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, Austrian Peter, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Vals Sobre las Olas, or “Waltz On The Waves

November 2nd will mark the one year anniversary of the passing of our friend, El Coyote. With that in mind I want to dedicate this submission to Juan Jose Santos (E.C.). (3-3-55 – 11-2-2020)

Being the ardent lover of music that he was, I hope that he will approve of this.

The following beautiful music is brought to you by the Orquesta Sinfonica del Instituto Politecnico National (OSIPN) from Mexico.

The first piece is titled “Vals Sobre las Olas, or “Waltz On The Waves.” It was written by the Mexican composer, Juventino Rosas.

Most, if not all of you, will recognize this famous music from south of the border.

Danzon No 2

Next they play “Danzon No 2” A danzon is a Cuban dance of African origin popularized in Vera Cruz, Mexico.

Some excellent percussion here.

Caballeria Ligera

We’ll follow that with “Caballeria Ligera,” or in English – The Light Cavalry.

Certainly, another piece that is widely recognized.

Vals Poetico

I’ll close this out with “Vals Poetico.”

This piece was written by the Mexican composer, Felipe Villanueva. Sadly, Villanueva died at the young age of 31 due to pneumonia in 1893.

I hope you that have enjoyed this great music, as I have.

Have a great Sunday, and R.I.P. El Coyote. You are missed on TBP.

The royal wedding cellist, Sheku Kanneh-Mason, 19, played three songs for guests as Harry and Meghan signed the register.

Francisco Maestre – “Libertadores”. Óscar Navarro

II Festival Internacional de Jóvenes Orquestas de Alicante

6 de agosto de 2014.

A delightful presentation with the entire orchestra swaying, singing, and clapping along with the music.

The Classic Music Mafia – Adding some class to this joint one Sunday at a time.

Heaven help us…

A sad anniversary but a sweet memorial.
I believe EC would heartily approve of your choices.

Vals Poetico is an excellent piece upon which to end.
(Proper grammatical structure in one more nod to our ‘Grammar Nazi’.)

A necessarily long detailed review of the preparation the conductor goes through to get the scores for all the performers ready for the event. Fascinating!
A reminder of the GENIUS of the original composer(s) to produce the work in the first place!

San Francisco Symphony conductor on preparing the score for the 100 member orchestra for a performance! 1:42 hours.

Thank you for another moving Sunday. I’m sorry for the loss of your friend. The pieces chosen for him are lovely.

I sent Amadeus to my niece to let her know that not all orchestra music is stuffy. I asked her to focus on Smooth. She has heard the MJ version and the rock version they play in American Pie II. This version is fun, as well. It’s fun to mix and match.

See you next week.
