SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, Austrian Peter, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Joaquín Rodrigo (1901-1999) Concierto Andaluz para cuatro Guitarras

Dancing With Myself

Today, I’d like to introduce you to a lovely, talented lady named Chloe Feoranzo. She is an excellent clarinet and saxophone player with a voice as smooth and sweet as Hardscrapple Farmer’s Maple syrup. She can also dance a step or two. She is a throwback to an earlier musical era.

I came across her when I was listening to Pokey LaFarge, as she played clarinet for Pokey’s “Central Time Tour.” She left Pokey’s band in 2016 after three years.

Since leaving Pokey, she joined the all-female Shake ‘Em Up Jazz Band based in New Orleans. She tours both nationally and internationally with a number of groups, and has appeared on over 40 albums.

So without further ado let’s get started.

This first piece is titled “Dancing With Myself.”

Put ‘Em In A Box

Next, Chloe does “Put ‘Em In A Box.”

Lucas Ferrari plays a nice Melodica solo on this number.

He Ain’t Got Rhythm

We’ll follow that with “He Ain’t Got Rhythm.”

I Get Ideas

Next is her rendition of “I Get Ideas.”

Sadie Green

Finally, a piece with her playing in Pokey’s band titled “Sadie Green.”

Dave Brubeck Take Five, Original Video

One of the foremost exponents of cool jazz, David Warren Brubeck. He wrote a number of jazz standards, including “In Your Own Sweet Way” and “The Duke”.

Brubeck’s style ranged from refined to bombastic, reflecting both his mother’s attempts at classical training and his own improvisational skills. His music is known for employing unusual time signatures as well as superimposing contrasting rhythms, meters, and tonalities.

The saxophone melody “Take Five” was written for the Dave Brubeck Quartet by Brubeck’s long-time musical partner, alto saxophonist Paul Desmond. Appearing on one of the top-selling jazz albums, “Take Five” has endured as a jazz classic associated with Brubeck.

Brubeck experimented with time signatures throughout his career, recording “Pick Up Sticks”, “Unsquare Dance”, “World’s Fair”, and “Blue Rondo à la Turk“. He was also a composer of orchestral and sacred music and wrote soundtracks for television, such as Mr. Broadway and the animated miniseries This Is America, Charlie Brown.
