A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, and Steve C.
Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.
We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.
Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.
We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.
A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.
We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

You Raise me Up
This week I’d like to feature the talent of Martin Hurkens.
Hurkens is a 68 year old opera singer from the Netherlands. He was the winner of the third season of “Holland’s Got Talent.” He is incredible, and is definitely worth a listen.
The first couple of songs are beautiful. Great to listen to while watching the crowd. There’s a certain common denominator about the crowd that I just can’t quite put my finger on. Maybe you can help me.
This first piece is absolutely fantastic, in my opinion.
Ave Maria
Next up is beautiful version of Ave Maria.
Nella Fantasia
We’ll follow that with Nella Fantasia.
Una Furtiva Lagrima
Next he performs a favorite of Pavarotti titled “Una Furtiva Lagrima.”
“Una furtiva lagrima” (A furtive tear) is the romanza from act 2, scene 3 of the Italian opera L`elisir d`amore by Gaetano Donizetti.
The Rose
He follows that with “The Rose.”
Nostio Mondo Amato
Next up is “Nostio Mondo Amato.
The song Nostro Mondo Amato is written by the famous musical director Anton Kropivsek.
The video was shot in theater Schouwburg Sittard, during a live concert by Guido’s Orchestra.
I hope that you have enjoyed listening to Martin.
Have a great Sunday.

The Classic Music Mafia – Adding some class to this joint one Sunday at a time.
Heaven help us…
Love the accordion. (So did EC.)
Love classical.
Love Vivaldi.
So, here ya go!
Thanks Stucky.
I don’t know very much about accordions, but it seems that he is playing one with buttons instead of the usual keys.
I guess that adds some extra notes and he plays it very well.
I’ve added it to our Anniversary Edition on February 6th.
Many thanks…
It sounds more like an organ than an accordion.
Yup. Trumpet, violin, even drums … an accordion can mimic many sounds.
Here’s “Polka Grandfather” for our Polish readers and fans. If this doesn’t make you feel happy you must be … a Kneegrow.

My wife played accordion in church when she was a young girl
Some fast accordion for our Frenchy pal, GeorgeS!
A helicopter quartet?? Ok, this is odd …. in a cool way, imho. Two minutes, (Full version on Youtube.)
How did I find this odd video? By watching this rather interesting “Bizzare Facts” video.

It goes without saying, another wonderful job Misters Mafia!
For the record, you could post various versions of Ave Maria EVERY week! And since this is the Season Of Christ, the same applies to “O Holy Night”.
Thanks for all you do, week after week.
Funny you should mention that.
We have several versions of both songs coming up next week in our Special Christmas Edition that Jim has said he will feature on Friday the 24th and hopefully keep featured for us thru Sunday.
We invite everyone to add anything that they like. It doesn’t have to be classical.
I understand why it would be on a “bizzare” video site. It fits the genre.
John Wlliams does a very well known famous piece to make this a keeper. IMHO.
Thanks ursel.
It is very nice.
We’ll include it in our Anniversary Edition on February 6th as well.
Many thanks.
THANKS much for your marvelous works, much appreciated and looked forward to every Sunday!!
I was in Colorado when John Denver was at the height of his career, and enjoyed his work a lot.
I do not know if it was the quality of the radio then, or my bad ears, or inattention, but I now can appreciate his voice, range, control, etc., as demonstrated in this collection of his work. Qualifies as “classical”, I think.
John Denver concert – All the famous tunes and background, 48 minutes.
This is really nice ursel.
We will add it to our Special Anniversary Edition.
It’s perfect for it.
Many thanks.
Worth mentioning that this describes what inspired him to write the songs.
Neil Diamond and some of the other famous performers also wrote a lot of their famous songs, which is a gift to us all. Certainly nothing wrong with artists performing others work, but the creation of the songs is a special talent gift, like all writers.
The complexity of the old famous classical composers production exceeds the imagination and comprehension, and I repeat the symphony orchestra is one of, if not THE most marvelous things on the planet, AND YOU GENTS BRINGING IT TO US REGULARLY IS WONDERFUL!!
Thank you. I have not heard Martin’s beautiful and powerful voice before now. I will look forward to the 12.24 version. I hope O Holy Night is on it. Merry Christmas to you all.
You got it, Leah..
nkit
Thanks once again, Music Mafiosi …
Here’s a piece my former wife sent me …
Merry Christmas …
Redo please sir the link is busted.
I’ve tried to redo the link 3 times … still a no-go …
Best advice: select the link and go to a new window with it (in Safari) or just copy and paste the link into a new window.
Sorry … the best I can do today …
How’s this?
Thanks …
Many thanks Anthony.
We’ll include it in our Anniversary Edition as well.
It won’t still be Christmas in February, but it’s still very nice.
Our church did an a capella quintet version similar to this last Sunday night and it was phenomenal.
Watching Yuja ATTACK the piano on this old well known piece is really entertaining, over and over.
It’s fine that unforgettable wasn’t included. It really doesn’t fit here.
Great job, gentlemen. Thoroughly enjoyed the street performance by Martin and based on the audience and the ambiance, it looks like a place I would enjoy visiting. There is something about seeing a bunch of people who know how to act in public and enjoy a very good singer, all without fights breaking out, robberies and lots of cussing.
Also enjoyed the Haydn piece. A smallish orchestra, but a wonderful performance.
I look forward to the CHRISTmas special edition and will have a couple of submissions ready for the comments.
Thanks, Patriot. Very much…
Not all classical guitar players are male!!! Great performer here!
