I couldn’t remember what thread it was on but I do remember chatting with you and a couple others about the difference in being cheap and being frugal.
My friend Larry took all of our discarded 2x4s and posts from the old balcony on our treehouse and some old roofing tin that was rusted. He sanded the tin and resurfaced it and look at what he built with it!!!

Have you ever been down to an Irishmans shanty. Where water is scarce and whiskey’s aplenty. Where the dirt on the floor is up to your knees, and the beds are all covered with man eating fleas.
Well, Larry went through a rough period this summer (he got the crud! no vax!) and I gave him jars of canned chicken soup and ivermectin iced cookies. After a few days he complained that my soup gave him “the runs” but he really did like my cookies.

Larry paid me for a load of feed with 15 meat birds. I canned the last four today.
I can a lot of meat and think folks should think about keeping some stored meat in jars. My Amish friends have a ginormous canner that cans over a big brick oven. 30 quarts at a time.
I’m uber impressed. I can only can seven quarts at a time. I canned two half-gallon jars of broth and five quarts of meat. Not bad out of four yardbirds.
***WARNING***
Pressure cooking and canning meat can be dangerous if not done correctly. Eating canned meat not canned correctly can also be dangerous.
So, at least 12 psi for at least 75 minutes. Watch the jars for two weeks for any bubbles*
*bubbles mean bacteria are alive and creating oxygen inside that jar which means there wasn’t a sterile seal. It is rare but it happens and it is self-critiquing most of the time because the jars will unseal within a few days and the aroma will announce a failed seal.
And tis the season to build an ice house
My wife visited an old friend over there in Luzianna and brought home a couple of pints of canned rabbit. I’m not apprehensive about foods in general as all are clean now don’t you know as opposed to what the old Jews thought. Ever see a Jew eat fried catfish? Before Christ that was a no no. I guess Jews still have that thought. Oysters on the half shell, crying , I wish I could find “reputable” ones in NE Texas. Canned rabbit? I guess it would be like the myth of holding one’s nose when voting. However , I vote with nostrils open and got rid of the rabbit yet not in my belly for certain.

Yeah, the jars were meat rabbit. I use to eat fried wild rabbit. It was rather “chewey”. I don’t know, just something about the looks of that rabbit in a jar. But then again, no worse than the looks of oysters on the half shell. I was apprehensive. 🙂

I’m a survivor and not ashamed of it. Long ago my dad said we were a throw away society. Put something in the microwave then throw the container in the trash. Disposable diapers, throw them away. Tired of ones spouse, throw him/her away. Also I the 60’s he said people wanted “change”. Well as he said, “we got it”.
I have no shame “recycling” a five gallon bucket along the roadways should I be able to safely stop and pick it up in a seemingly balls to the wall, get out of my way , I’m the only driver on the road mentality. In the “country” one can always use a five gallon bucket. Why pay for one at the hardware store or Lowes or Home Depot? I’m not “proud”.
My husband and I fight over 5 gallon buckets.
, I’ll say. Followed by, I need it for rinsing paintbrushes at the treehouse!
I usually win, but then my buckets just disappear.
