Last night, my 8 year old daughter, as I tucked herinto bed asked: “Mom, can a vaccine kill you?” I told her that it is time to sleep and we will talk about it tomorrow.
What should I say?
I don’t want her to be panicked about healthcare, as you never know when she might need injections or go the hospital. We have always downplayed risks in life and reasons to be fearful. She still believes in Santa and the toothfairie.
I don’t think, at her age, she is ready for “yes, actually, they can kill you and those that say you should get them are lying evil bastards”.
I think I will just be somewat honests while downplaying it and say that they can cause effects like fatigue and headaches, but it is rare and for most healthy children they do not cause death. But that they are newer and just have not been evaluated enough and for someone like her I would rather her not get one and risk it. Plus I will reiterate what I already told her that she is healthy and strong and that her body will make her healthy again on it’s own like it always does.
I think giving children the illusion of normalcy in times of crisis is beneficial. Think “Life is beautiful”.

Problem is, these dangerous or lethal side effects are NOT rare, and most vaccines are not a good idea….
Svarka, there might have been a little difference regarding this decision pre and post genocidal wartime, but I think I made a big mistake even 20 years ago underestimating what I should expose my 7 year old to. Don’t forget, they’re getting hit daily in insidious ways that is not in the least holding back from efforts to indoctrinate them. I have a friend who hasn’t held back at all using concepts and words whether he ‘understands’ or not, and guess what, he understands. Yep, he’s now an outlaw from indoctrinated potential friends and their indoctrinated parents and the same in the rest of society. So be it. He won’t be a fool, he’ll start seeing constant confirmation that you’re right, he will suffer some alienation and confusion now, and be very grateful in the future he’s not ‘one of them’.
I remember a story about 2 moms watching their children doing risky things on monkey bars at the playground. One mom was concerned; the other mom simply said “They hold on tighter than you think”.
An 8 year old has a concept of risk; in their world, falling off their bicycle and scraping their knee is first hand experience with risk. If they are smart and want to keep riding their bike they first give it some thought for how to avoid falling off before mounting up again.
As far as an 8 year old’s adult fear of dying from a vaccine, the short answer is “yes, that can happen with any vaccine” and couple it with the notion that with covid there still are a lot of things that are not known so people are wisely waiting for more and better information before deciding to take the vaccine. Take a stab at explaining how our immune system works to keep us healthy and often involves common sense stuff like eating right. No need to bring up any of the bad stuff tptb are using-an 8yo would have too much difficulty processing that.
Keep us posted with how she handles it. This is not the time to let her be scared, though Lord knows they are trying so hard to do just that to our children.
There are no vaccines for covid.
So I talked to her and basically told her the truth without the evil and gore. At the end, I asked her what she thought. She said: “I don’t ever want to get a vaccine for Covid now.” Me: “Why not?” Her: “Because I experienced it. It was no worse than a cold. So the vaccine is not worth the risk for children. For old people, maybe, but only if they have not had the illness yet.”
