SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Rachelle Ferrell Autumn Leaves

As a continuation from last week.

Do you know Rachelle Ferrell?

I had first heard Rachelle in 1999 live at the Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland).

Afterwards I walked out in a daze – all my comparison scales were completely overshot.

That was probably her professional debut. We are so lucky it was recorded, even in inferior video quality.

This one comes to us thanks to Stucky.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra – Mozart/Figaro

This one comes to us dedicated to EC from SMC.

Michael Bublé Duet With Thalia – Mis Deseos/Feliz Navidad – Live From NBC New York

Ahh, what the hell.

Let’s put one up for EC today.

Tis the season.

George Gershwin – Rhapsody in Blue, Maja Babyszka (15 years old) – piano

Today, I will post the first of several weeks worth of classical music composed by some of the world’s great composers. These pieces will all come from the 3rd Polish Nationwide Music Schools’ Symphonic Orchestras Competition.

A youth orchestra generally has to have an average age of no greater then 24 years old. These young folks in all the orchestras are all extremely talented, and dedicated to their art of playing classical music. I dare say that they don’t sit around staring at their smart phones, and listening to hip-hop all day or other hits from Wakanda. These are prestigious music schools.

This first piece will be played by The Arthur Rubinstein School of Music Symphony Orchestra in Bydgoszcz, Poland. The conductor is Henryk Wierzchon and the piece features 15 year old Maja Babyszka on the piano. Maja plays effortlessly and flawlessly without the aid of sheet music. The entire orchestra plays beautifully as they give us George Gershwin’s Rhapsody In Blue.

Edvard Grieg – Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 Op. 46

I’ll follow that with a piece composed by the great Norwegian composer and pianist, Edvard Grieg (6-15-1843 – 9-4-1907) The music is Peer Gynt Suite No.1 Op 46. It is played beautifully by the Polish Youth Symphony Orchestra in Bytom, Poland, and recorded at Frederic Chopin School of Music Concert Hall in Bytom, July 08, 2015. The orchestra is conducted by Maciej Tomasiewicz.

This concludes today’s edition of the competition. I hope you have enjoyed the music put out by these young people, and that you will tune in next week for more of the competition.

Have a great Sunday.

Stravinsky: Petroesjka

Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra

And now for something completely different, there’s this, if You Tube doesn’t sink my attempt.

Stay with it, for a brief chuckle. It’s only 1:51 long. That’s less than 2 minutes, for the maff challenged.

THANKS so very much Sir for another marvelous effort on the selections!!
Notice that all the orchestras here are in Europe is always worth pondering.

Your note is vigorously applauded.

The Stravinsky piece is a great selection and always a pleasure to watch a conductor like that one that truly loves his work.

Good instrumental piano player Danny Wright covers some of the classics in his album
titled Black and White…Gershwin, Canon in D, etc.
I had that CD at one time, but it grew tiny little legs and ran off somewhere. I miss it.

For some of his own stuff, his album “A Day in the Life” has 3 or 4 good tunes.
Title track is good, + “Fire and Ice”, and “Linen Star”

BTW…you or Steve: I recommend Haydn’s Trumpet Concierto in E flat major, feat. Alison Balsom.
Worth a listen.

~Hope you both are well, w/ la cosa nostra.
Cheers.

BTW…sorry the Bucs went down, but Suh is a jerk, and karma bit him.
And I like Matty, even though we got
the weak end of that trade, I’m hoping he can beat SF, and go the the big game.
He’s a good dude.

Lion’s fan aka glutton for punishment here. The Lions have a way of sapping the energy out of their best players. Happy that Matty was traded and won a playoff game. Hope he can help take them all the way. Jury is still out who got the crappier end of the deal because the Lions still ended with a losing record, and they suck the souls out of their best players.

Time will tell.

My initial thought was that I would prefer to have Jared Goff vs. Matty..Who knows…It’s a team game…Matty reached his apex tonight, perhaps…

The Lions management will find a way to ruin Goff. Not being negative. Billy Simms, Barry Sanders, Rodney Peete, Megatron…and many others.

Jason Hanson was oftentimes the only player who would put points on the board in a game. That’s sad.

I hope I’m wrong. Yes, it’s a team sport, so there’s that.

I think that Goff has as much, or more, upside than Matty. Just my opinion…He has a bigger arm…

Thanks! Love the Gershwin Rhapsody. The pianist looks like she was having so much fun playing her solos. Looking forward to the upcoming weeks.
