SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP – SPECIAL SECOND ANNIVERSARY EDITION

This is our second annual Anniversary Edition of this feature on TBP.

We make this and our annual Christmas Edition special by going all out and featuring anything that we want to post.

I try to keep the main feature Classical, but then we add anything that we want to add to our ‘shorts’ that follow.

So come and see us. Post your own favorite music in the comments section. It can be anything that you want. Jazz, Rock, Hard Rock, Classical, anything.

We want to take this time to thank everyone on TBP for allowing us to post these past two years. We hope to have many more.

Steve C.

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Symphony No. 6, “Pastoral” – Beethoven

I started out our tour through classic music two years ago with this classic from Beethoven and followed that up with a different version of the same song in last year’s Anniversary Special.

Since you can’t get enough of a good thing I see no reason to change that so I have another new version this year.

This is my favorite of the nine Beethoven symphonies.

This performance, by the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the director Yannick Nézet-Séguin, was recorded the 07/02/2017 in the Grande Salle Pierre Boulez to the Philharmonie de Paris.

I hope you will enjoy it.

The rest of this edition will all be new.

This one comes to us thanks to Stucky.

Alexandr Hrustevich Vilnius 2013 A.Vivaldi-P.Fenyuk. The four seasons “Summer” 1-3part

Love the accordion. (So did EC.)

Love classical.

Love Vivaldi.

So, here ya go!

The next two come to us thanks to ursel doran.

JOHN WILLIAMS. CONCIERTO DE ARANJUEZ.

John Wlliams does a very well known famous piece to make this a keeper. IMHO.

John Denver

THANKS much for your marvelous works, much appreciated and looked forward to every Sunday!!

I was in Colorado when John Denver was at the height of his career, and enjoyed his work a lot.

I do not know if it was the quality of the radio then, or my bad ears, or inattention, but I now can appreciate his voice, range, control, etc., as demonstrated in this collection of his work.

Qualifies as “classical”, I think.

John Denver concert – All the famous tunes and background, 48 minutes.

This one comes to us thanks to Anthony Aaron

Mary Did You Know

Thanks once again, Music Mafiosi …

Here’s a piece my former wife sent me.

Merry Christmas …

The Music of Ennio Morricone | The Bands of HM Royal Marines

Okay, I’ve made it clear over the last two years that I am a big fan of Ennio Morricone.

Today, I want to play the music of Ennio by Her Royal Majesty’s Royal Marines. It really is worth a listen, and the trumpet players are a hoot.

Opera: Nabucco/Verdi- Va, pensiero- Riccardo Muti/Bis- Roma 2011 (It/En/Fr Lyrics)

I’ll follow that beautiful piece with another favorite artist, that being Giuseppe Verdi ( 10/10 1813 – 1-27-1901).

The great Italian composer wrote many beautiful operas, and this is from “Nabucco (1842) titled “Va Pensiero'” Nabucco (Nabuchodonosor), opéra en quatre actes de Giuseppe Verdi sur un livret de Temistocle Solera, d’après le drame “Nabuchodonosor” (1836) d’Auguste Anicet-Bourgeois et Francis Cornu (1836). Première triomphale à la Scala de Milan le 9 mars 1842. – L’œuvre traite de l’épisode biblique de l’esclavage des hébreux exilés à Babylone sous le règne de Nabuchodonosor. Le chœur des esclaves “Va, pensiero” à la fin de l’acte III, apparaîtra comme le chant de la liberté pour la population italienne de Milan alors sous occupation autrichienne. Cf

I hope that you enjoy this.

See you next week..

Have a great week.

Steve C.

In our Christmas Edition, I featured Karen Carpenter in my ‘Shorts’. Since this is an ‘anything goes’ edition of our weekly music I would like to continue that now with some ’shorts’ of her non-Christmas music on the 39th anniversary of her tragic death on February 4th of 1983.

Karen had a voice that was loved by all.

She is greatly missed…

Steve C.

My Favorite Picture Of Her

Desperado

I will start with this. It is the best version of Desperado that you will hear surpassing even Linda Ronstadt’s version in my opinion – and I’m a Ronstadt fan too…

It is my second most favorite song of Karen’s.

It was released on June 6th of 1975.

Producer, Associated Performer, Recording Arranger: Richard Carpenter

Producer, Associate Producer: Karen Carpenter

Composer Lyricist: Glenn Frey

Composer Lyricist: Don Henley

Only Yesterday

Album – Only Yesterday

Released on March 14th, 1975

Writers – John Bettis, Richard Carpenter

Another of my favorites…

We’ve Only Just Begun

This is what both Karen and Richard Carpenter called their signature song.

It became a wedding song for a generation of young lovers.

Written by – Roger Nichols and Paul Williams

Released August 21st, 1970

Stayed at number one for 7 weeks

Close To You

Another early hit for The Carpenters. It was their first number one hit song.

Written by – Burt Bacharach and Hal David

Released on May 14th, 1970

Top Of The World

Released in1973 this was also a number one hit for them.

Written by – Richard Carpenter and John Bettis.

Don’t Cry For Me Argentina

An incredible combination, the voice of Karen Carpenter singing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” from EVITA.

This was recorded for the 1977 album, “Passage”.

It was the only album the Carpenters recorded that was outside their normal pop style box.

Supposedly, it was to show off Karen’s voice, which obviously it did.

Solitaire

Written by – Neil Sedaka and Phil Cody

This one clearly shows Karen’s depth. She sings this one from her soul.

When I Fall In love

Very stunning rendition of this perfect song.

Recorded in 1976.

I Believe You

Here is another great song by Karen and Richard Carpenter.

“I Believe You” which was written by the Addrisi brothers first appeared on the album, Made In America, released in 1981. It was later included in The Carpenters – The Essential Collection (1965-1997) (2002) and Carpenters Gold: 35th Anniversary Edition, a two-disc compilation (2004) all on A&M Records.

A truly romantic piece.

Jambalaya (On The Bayou)

Exclusive live performance by The Carpenters (Richard & Karen Carpenter) and band at the ‘Grand Gala du Disque’, 15 February 1974 in the RAI Congres Building, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

This song ‘Jambalaya (On the Bayou)’ by Hank Williams was recorded live at the Grand Gala du.

It shows that they had a lot of fun up there.

I Need To Be In Love

It’s now time for my all-time favorite of hers – “I Need To Be In Love” – from the CD Album “A Kind Of Hush”

They say that she loved it too.

Written by – Richard Carpenter, Albert Hammond, and John Bettis.

Released as a single on May 21st, 1976.

It’s so sad that she never found her special someone. You can hear that clearly in her voice on this one.

I hope that you enjoyed this trip through memory lane with me.

The Classic Music Mafia – Adding some class to this joint one Sunday at a time.

Wow.
If someone said to me you could play The Four Seasons on accordion, I would have declared him borderline insane up to 10 minutes ago.

The fun side of me wants to throw a curve ball on the heels of your comment, James.
Theme song from “The Titanic” was by Celine Dion. “My Heart Will Go On”, eh?
Bear with me and stay with this karaoke one for about 30 seconds, LOL.

And, on that note, it’s too bad they couldn’t somehow sound this two-tone in downtown Ottawa.
The Karens would blow a gasket.

The Pastoral is absolutely my favorite piece of classical music. I was fortunate to hear the CSO play it 2 times in Boettcher Hall when I lived in Denver. Sitting in the dark and having this music wash over me just took me away.

Superb work, requiring much effort for your collection today sir! THANKS much as always.

Yuja does a Liszt piece here, wonderful as usual, but the dress is classical also.

Happy Anniversary! Listened to the John Denver concert, but didn’t hear this one, or I accidentally skipped over it – my favorite of his, because it makes me think of my son, and I like to play it obnoxiously whenever we enter Colorado and Rocky Mountain park –

Thanks,
Avalon

Listened to it as well.

Rocky Mountain High was my anthem in the early days when I lived in CO. Still brings tears to my eyes, it was so beautiful being young and in CO in those days.

I made a pair of leaded glass windows for John’s home in Aspen. Delivered and installed but didn’t get to meet him. Always liked him and his music, broke my heart when he died.

Sir Admin,
I also lived in colorado from 72 on for years, and enjoyed his music a lot driving the roads of the state and sometimes to Aspen. We did sneer a bit at his buying a Lear jet to commute to Denver from Aspen, but his dad was ex Air Force and got him into flying. His tragic death from flying to close to the water off California was a classic pilot error event.
At the time I never appreciated his fabulous voice as demonstrated in this concert, with the explanation for the origins of his song writing.
There are lots of singers, but the writers of the music are truly the gifted ones, who can also sing really well. His vocal range and control are something to behold here.

That was a fantastic selection. I worked up in the barn all afternoon listening to it, Pastoral, Morricone and the Carpenters? That’s my date night selection with my wife.

Come on man, that was just great.

Thanks for doing this, it’s become my church every Sunday.
