Joe Rogan mocks his controversy in surprise stand-up appearance

Headlining a small comedy show in Austin, Texas, Joe Rogan took to the stage to speak about the recent controversy surrounding him and his podcast on Spotify, and comment on the recently circulated video compilation of him using the n-word on his show.

“I used to say it if [I was talking about] a Richard Pryor bit or something, I would say it in context,” Rogan said. “Somebody made a compilation of every time I said that word over 14 years and they put it on YouTube, and it turned out that was racist as f**k. Even to me! I’m me and I’m watching it saying, ‘Stop saying it!’ I put my cursor over the video and I’m like, ‘Four more minutes?!’”

Rogan added that he hadn’t used the word in years, before saying he found it “kind of weird, people will get really mad if you use that word and tweet about it on a phone that’s made by slaves.”The number one podcast host then addressed the other major controversy surrounding his show – the alleged Covid and vaccine misinformation.

“I talk shit for a living — that’s why this is so baffling to me,” he said. “If you’re taking vaccine advice from me, is that really my fault? What dumb shit were you about to do when my stupid idea sounded better? ‘You know that dude who made people eat animal dicks on TV? How does he feel about medicine?’ If you want my advice, don’t take my advice.”

After the show, Rogan held a brief Q&A with the audience, where one fan asked if he would accept the recent $100-million offer to move his show onto Rumble, but the host said he’ll stay where he is for now: “No, Spotify has hung in with me, inexplicably, let’s see what happens.”

In a recent episode with comic Akaash Singh, Rogan has decried the controversy surrounding him as “a political hit job” saying that the video of him saying the n-word had always been out there and was being used now for political reasons. “They’re taking all this stuff I’ve ever said that’s wrong and smushing it all together. It’s good because it makes me address some stuff that I really wish wasn’t out there.”

Rogan also responded to criticism leveled against him by former US president Donald Trump and Florida governor Ron DeSantis, who said Rogan shouldn’t have apologized to the mob. “You should apologize if you regret something,” said Rogan, adding that “I do think you have to be careful not to apologize for nonsense.”

Earlier, Rogan published two apology videos for the controversy surrounding his podcast and partnership with Spotify, saying his use of the n-word was “the most regretful and shameful thing that I’ve ever had to talk about publicly.”

The row started a few weeks ago when musicians such as Neil Young and Joni Mitchell decided to pull their music from Spotify, accusing the company of allowing Rogan to spread “deadly Covid misinformation” and demanding the platform part ways with the host.

Since then, many have weighed in on the controversy, with some backing Joe Rogan while others have joined the calls for his cancellation.

Spotify has so far responded by removing over 100 episodes of his show The Joe Rogan Experience from the platform, with the presenter reportedly selecting 70 of them personally. Spotify CEO Daniel Ek has, however, refused to part ways with the podcast host, saying “I do not believe that silencing Joe is the answer. We should have clear lines around content and take action when they are crossed, but canceling voices is a slippery slope.”

Blah, blah, blah…and you said you’d vote for the socialist. Who gives a rats ass. It’s time to shut up now and just go do your podcasts. Enough already with the pathetic pandering — its repulsive.

Here’s an idea that would have a huge impact; continue the Joe Rogan podcast but bring on an endless string of nobodies and talk to them about nothing.

Give them what they want, pap. Make it so boring and uninteresting that no one will ever listen to it and keep collecting that paycheck.

I knew a guy who had virtually the exact same thing happen to him. Nice guy, great reputation, friendly, helpful, good family man, excellent neighbor, all around sport. When the media blitz tried to make him out as a racist, homophobic neo-nazi, etc. he was lucky enough to have everyone he had ever worked with, his old friends, his neighbors, members of his church, extended family all come out to support and defend his reputation against this vicious political attack on his character.

Just kidding, that didn’t happen. Some did. Those people revealed their true kinship and loyalty to the person they knew rather than the image the media created. They stood by and never wavered and remain close friends and family to this day. But others ran as fast as they could in the opposite direction so as not to be tainted by the smears, lest the eye of Sauron turn on them. That’s the majority of people. Weak, disloyal, undependable. You’d think that would be a sad thing to discover, but the only thing more important than knowing who your true friends are is finding out which ones aren’t. From then on life became much clearer and easier to navigate because less time was wasted on being kind and cooperative with those who have nothing to offer. It became, in an odd way, one of the best vetting systems for future friendships and associations than anything money could ever buy.

This is where Rogan is right now. He’s chosen to grovel and that probably has more to do with the income than the publicity, but who knows. Having a full court press focused on you publicly, in this way, is almost impossible to describe. It presents conditions you can never prepare for and it brings up all the deep seated human trauma of being ostracized, cut off, ridiculed, humiliated, etc. all at once with offers no means of defending yourself- Rogan is an exception in this case because he still has a platform that hasn’t- yet- been taken away from him. He doesn’t want to give it up, clearly, so he’s going on an apology tour in the best way he knows how, by deflecting it to a comedic outlook, which is semi-effective, but still based on a lie. He isn’t regretful about using the word, he felt very comfortable doing so at the time and repeatedly, not the sign of someone who feels true regret. He has been shamed- that part is true- but the fact is that saying things like the N word or that word fools precisely nobody because they are merely placeholders which only draw attention to it, not eliminate it. It’s a trick like a toddler holding his hands over his eyes to make something disappear, it is a ruse. And the argument behind it- that it is inherently bad word is an open joke because there isn’t a single African American in the US who hasn’t used it and there exists an entire industry built on its repeated and abusive overuse that makes those very people fabulously wealthy. Who is kidding who?

It is merely a weapon of control, like the masks. If he was as tough as he pretends to be he’d go right back at them and make it the focus of a series of interviews with anyone and everyone he could find who would be willing to have an open and honest discussion about exactly why we are cowed by those in power to bend the knee whenever they say so over a word that doesn’t really offend the people we’re told it does.

But he won’t. He wants the one thing that keeps most people from ever being free- to remain in the system, riding along in comfort, celebrated for his insights, esteemed for his money making ability, his connections to the rich and the powerful, the celebrity culture, and the American zeitgeist. He wants to have his cake and eat it too. The irony is that the only reason he made his way to the position that is currently threatened was because he didn’t cave in to the sensibilities of the faux pearl-clutching media and the fawning acolytes of the post modern dystopia we now inhabit all along.

There is a huge difference between apologizing for something you regret (only he knows if he really does) and apologizing for being wrong (which is what he said in the original apology).

And he doesn’t do it until he was targeted.

To your point, HSF,”If he was as tough as he pretends to be…”, I think that is the key observation.

I have watched/listened to hours and hours of his shows and he seems to be a non-confrontational type. He will certainly question someones statement, but not to the point of purposely being a bully.

I don’t think he is the tough guy, personality wise, some might assign him.

Competitive, no doubt, but a genuinely good person inside.

On a smaller scale (since I am thankfully not a person of public interest), the best thing for me to come out of the last 2 years is cutting ties to the people I thought were friends but were not. Liberating beyond words.

There’s an old saying someone I respected in business used to always tell me- The only thing more important than knowing who you want to work for is knowing who you don’t.

Everyone I know who has lost money in business deals has said the same thing about the person they lost it to- I knew.

He didn’t grovel. He didn’t apologize for the Covid stuff, he apologized for things he said he regretted. He was the only adult in the conversation and he was a good example. But, neither side can do more than read the fucking headlines based on the ‘he caved/grovelled’ bullshit.

…saying his use of the n-word was “the most regretful and shameful thing that I’ve ever had to talk about publicly.”

Explain to me how that’s not caving/groveling?

He explained the context.

He is a fully grown adult male with his own opinions.

He has been made to feel regret and shame for expressing his own ideas and thoughts that he did not, right up until the very moment that the clip was posted online.

It was not a road to Damascus moment that happened in his own mind, it was a doxing that threatened his income and status that he sought to apologize away.

I understand full well what was going through his mind- at least in general terms of having had the same experience- and it is very powerful and has a great deal of influence over your own natural inclinations to defend yourself, freedom of speech and thought, the first amendment, etc. He chose none of those but instead went down whimpering. As much his choice as the original one he made when he said what he did. And now he goes to a comedy club and tries to mitigate the damage further by trying to make some kind of joke about it.

My first thought too. He controls the content. He could just have some version of ‘Tiny Tim’ on for every show until his contract runs out. Or just random people off the street. “So, tell me all about your 27 cats”.

He fucken caved as I suspected he would.

No one is coming to save you except you.

Do not give an inch. Do not waver. This is a winner take all.

Win totally or make the loss so unbearable to the enemy that they do not recover from it.

ZFG, out.

P.S. never apologize.

Yeah, I don’t get the tattoo shit these days. I was around it when I hung with hard core bikers many years ago. It was more about rebellion then. Now it’s more of a conformist thing. My god how awful that shit looks especially on women. Now people have it on their faces and necks just like the narco gangs.

Tats are my guide to acceptable women. If there is a tattoo visible when I meet them, pass. The little lawn mower stick dude on a shaved bit of bush is OK, but public tattoos just make them look like trash. Just my opinion and people are free to disfigure themselves as they please, but I find them repulsive.

Saw an otherwise stunning 20-something girl with full sleeves like Joe above. Just made her ugly, even with a pretty face.

He’s done. As if apologizing twice for nothing wasn’t enough, now he’s out there saying that he’s just fucking around and talking shit about the scamdemic and he’s surprised that anyone took him serious.

Is it possible for him to bend over any further than he already has? What a coward.
