My husband just transferred a significant chunk of his retirement to his account. I wonder what they would do if he went in and requested it in cash. What is the daily limit?

Do banks have a limit on cash withdrawn?

Someone here suggested I withdraw a significant chunk in $2K to $3K chunks once a month and either mention liking the casinos or talk about antiquing in Potosi. Either way, it keeps them from asking and if it ever comes up? I wasted it in slot machines or on chintzy antiques in quaint old shops on the way to visit my son in college. I’ve certainly got enough old crap around here I picked up here, there and everywhere.

Anyway, whomever that was here at TBP? It took about three years of doing that once a month at various branches around the region, but except for a few hundred dollars left each month after deposits are made, I managed to get it all out.

That was a fine tip just in time and I appreciate whichever wise ass here at TBP gave me the wise advice then! I did a turtle run on our bank and they didn’t even know it.

First and foremost, LEAD.
Second is silver.

It can be purchased in coin form (dimes, quarters and the like)
that can easily be exchanged for everyday items when the wheels come off.
A gold coin or bar worth thousands of dollars? How do but something
small with that? Like bread and eggs? I’m talking about real economic mayhem
where paper money id truly worthless.

Gold wafers that can be broken down into thing like i/8th oz and smaller, when you need a couple hundred.

There are a lot of options… and a size to fit every occasion…

Kinda like this but I’m not endorsing just pointing it out. Find a supplier you trust…

Something to consider in the planning.

I take it that if the current administration decides they are done with elections and choose to stay in power, enforced by the military… civil war (worst case). That you’ll stand your ground there??

If not then that hard investments, tractors, fuels, implements etc will all be gone. I see that in another post you have silver… Might want to buy a bit more… The nice thing about the gold… is it value is higher and packaged smaller. Easier to vacate with more in the pocket… if you know what I mean…

It is all faith based. It is worthless in the bank and it is worthless in paper. It will only have value as long as folks will accept it for payment.

In Canada, most banks will ask you to place an order if you request more than ~$3000 cash in a single withdrawl. The order will usually be processed in less than 5 days, but under current circumstances, who knows.

The banks may suddenly be out of physical cash dollars, and many people will realize their funds aren’t kept in a shoe box in the back. They’re bank assets that don’t actually belong to the depositors and have been fractionally doled out at ratios of 10:1 or higher, so if everyone wants their funds back now, the bank doesn’t have the cash to cover it.

Other than a couple of nosy girls at local country bank branches, they didn’t ask. One in Jackson, Missouri asked if we were buying a used car for our son (she knew our son’s college account was attached to our Investor Club Account we’d opened when we moved here… not to do any investing, but to get at least some interest rate for at least some of my 401K money, at the time) and I told her we were looking for one for him, did she know anyone? Was that one of those little white lies discussed here the other day?

Anyway, after the account dropped below 100K, it became some other kind of account and by the time it was in the 20s, Nick and I were pulling several hundred out at ATMs a couple times a week, so that when the Pandemic was “declared” (*realize “Pandemic” was declared, and only alters our government’s authority, not an actual documented medical or biological crisis) there was so little money in there, it is just a regular old people’s account. Income dollars go in from various entities, payments and cash comes out. I use cash for almost every purchase I make, if I can. Our county sheriff wouldn’t put up with his deputies stealing anyone’s cash, so since I’m not really doing anything illegal, I don’t worry about traveling from the bank to another local community to buy something with cash.

I stay away from Cape Girardeau with that much cash. I got put on the ground for a whole lot less a few years ago. Spent the day in the ICU to avoid getting put in jail for resisting arrest. (Long story short; arrested for insisting I had a right to walk through a residential neighborhood and being bitchy.)

As a matter of fact, I stay away from Cape Girardeau most of the time now. Those narrow streets spook me now. The river really gives me chills now.

That is weird. I’ve always loved the Mississippi.

Maggie,

That could of been me…but I would never say to say anything to them. But, I know I have recommended that…and done it for years.

But we only keep about six months of fiat bill paying on hand…Svarga is right…large amounts of fiat to me is risky and will be inflated away.

The vast majority of the pulls has then gone into various hard assests…many with no paper trails…we also built a house with some.

Here is old sage who’s advice has done me well.

I was just listening to Lynette Zang, as I do quite a bit. She is really good.

Her mantra:

Food. Water. Energy. Security. Barterability. Wealth Preservation. Community. Shelter.

I don’t think this list is new to anyone here. But it is simple, easy to remember and complete.

Now, just to Au and Ag. I have a very simple rubric for what to buy and in what ratios. I didn’t do it this way, but it is what I have recommended to friends and family. It is all based on lots of podcasts, many containing anecdotes from real-life hyperinflations and tyrannies. Plus, current and historical gold/silver ratios and the balance between barterability and wealth preservation.

SO, think in $10,000 chunks. Not that you have to spend that to start. The first $3k should be silver and the next $7k gold.

What to buy? I really think with silver you cannot go wrong with junk…including plenty of dimes. As far as bullion, I think the best type is generic 1 oz rounds…lowest premium possible. Avoid Eagles…premiums are not worth it. But maples, krugeerands and phils are often just as cheap as rounds. In any case, I think with silver, just think weight and divisibility. Probably best to avoid heavier bars–5, 10, 100 oz, kg. The premiums saving are negligible. Also, avoid silver collectables unless you really
know what you’re doing. I do not.

Gold bullion, on the other hand should mostly be in recognizable sovereign coins. Eagles, Buffaloes Kruggerands, Philharmonics, Maples. Also, consider fractional coins–quarters and halfs. Doug Casey had an excellent point on these. To an X-Ray machine, these look like regular coins. You could carry a lot of money anywhere with it looking like pocket change.

Now, after about 40-50k following this method, its probably time to start looking at gold collectables. (maybe I’ll get there one day. i doubt it tho). Lynette Zang is correct. This is how the super-rich buy gold. They make/influence laws, so confiscations of this type of coins is a much lower probability.

One last idea (from Starpath Academy — if you haven’t checked out this channel, you should) would be to buy gold jewelry. This could fit in anywhere. A place like mene.com (I’m sure there are others) sells 24 karat gold jewelry in all forms specifically for investment purposes. Premiums are obviously much higher than bullion, but on both the confiscation and travel ideas some Au in this form could be a great idea.

I’m sure you are all aware of the generational debt bomb we have built. Now, there seem to be bank runs in Canada. These could spread like wildfire. You may not be aware that some key technicals on both gold and silver charts broke this week (I don’t read charts, but I listen to people who do).

Point is, this fucker can break quickly. Get some (more) gold and silver quickly. Like tomorrow. Bill Holter’s advice is convert everything into them that you don’t want to lose. (In my case, everything my wife will let me convert. 🙂 )

Public Service announcement over.

So you know, with the civil forfeiture laws on the books in many areas, this isn’t a foolproof solution to the potential problem.

Let’s say you’re driving to a store to buy something using your hard assets and are stopped by the police for some reason. They decide they have probable cause to search your car (or your person) and discover the hard assets in your possession.

They further decide these assets are the proceeds of illegal activity and seize them until you can prove they’re not. As a practical matter, this can be difficult even with a paper trail and almost impossible without one.

The bottom line is that it’s impossible to perfectly protect any assets you may have so your best bet is to spread them around, in different formats and places, then cross your fingers.

Just buy PM’s and a good safe placed I a good hidey hole. The amount of interest you make likely amounts to little anyway. Where I am its about .5% monthly and based on the lowest amount held in the account.

The banks cannot seize it, unless you store it in a safety deposit box, and there are enough bullion buyers that you can cash in a coin, bar or wafer when ever needed. Or you can barter with it… The fiat doesn’t even make good toilet paper…

EDITED: Pretty sad you have to make up an alibi to take out YOUR OWN money… I;ve had a teller ask me about why I’m withdrawing $9K in cash… my reply.. Its none of your business.. . They don’t ask anymore…
