I live in a very rural area in the Missouri Ozarks, mostly pastureland, but a few plateaus large enough for row crop. Our little plot of land is such a farm, but we choose to have hayfields, freshly mown grasses around clusters of trees and a clover patch in the woodland meadow, where our herd of deer gather and live for the winter.
I know the neighbors around us and a few here and there across the countryside. I would bet you five dollars to a hundred that there is not one black person living within a ten mile radius (20 mile circumference) and the hundred comes to me if you cannot find one from here halfway to Farmington. When I worked for Boeing, I worked with a young woman married to a Canadian Air Force Captain, I think. I spent my first 7 years with my grandparents and mother on an estate farm in Stopsley, a village outside Luton in Bedfordshire.
My grandfather was an engineer/philosopher and with his full set of Britannica encyclopedia educated me in those early formative years whilst my mother taught me to read and write at the age of 4.
As an only child, I interacted in adult environments but still enjoyed the freedom of childhood and local friends as we spent many summer days adventuring far and wide. Those are wonderful memories I can cherish all my days. I am eternally grateful to have been born at such a time and place. So many others are less fortunate and is one reason why I tend to ‘get into service’ as they advise in AA which is a great antidote to self-pity and non-clinical depression. Working with animals achieves a similar outcome IMHO.

Aside from Navy Seals, Army Rangers, and a few others, America still has–for now at least–a fallback army: 150 million American gun owners with 400 million guns and a couple trillion rounds of ammunition. Remember? The militia is the “other” reason for the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution.
