Voting at the national and state level is meaningless. The important races (especially for president) are fixed, and the outcome of those that aren’t fixed doesn’t change anything significant. The beat just goes on regardless of whether it is a Democrat or Republican that wins. Voting at the local level (mayors, ballot propositions, etc) can have some effect. For national and state races I always vote for a third party candidate. It won’t affect the outcome, but at least it is a meaningful protest vote, unlike a vote for Trump or Biden, which is a truly wasted vote, because it won’t affect the outcome and isn’t even a protest vote.
My not voting is my protest vote.
