I think most people do actually, then they make a choice to subordinate their own good sense and conscience by choosing the path of least resistance.

Sadly, your words remind me of a cousin I had been close to pre-fake-pandemic. When I had quietly asked what drove her decision, she said she ‘didn’t want to deal with hassle’. I confess I was stunned, since she had become a devout christian in the past decade and thought she would think in terms of obedience to God first. Today, she is no longer herself mentally; the few times I been able to speak with her I see she has difficulty with organizing her thoughts and is slower in processing everything and losing track of the topic or word she wants to say.
When I reflected on her behavior, it is just as you’ve stated – she took the path of least resistance. Surprisingly, I too, am grateful for being given a mind to think critically. That could have been me, had I been less resistant to the relentless hounding to obey and do this one thing to ‘flatten the curve’.
In my small town here, at the middle of the slide to insanity, I spoke to several people in office/retail jobs (bank, insurance, grocery) that I superficially knew through weekly contact when in town. They were masked and eager to tell me how I should get jabbed like they were. I told them I did not trust the government or pharmacological industry and I would wait (forever) to see what happened to the eager adopters. Most of them said they were doing it “to get back to normal”. *path of least resistance*
As said, a small town, you notice changes. I have not seen several of these people in the last six months. People I saw at least once a month for the last 15 years. They appear to be gone. I have not asked others, as I really don’t want to know if so, but my guess is they are crippled or dead now.
We are all ultimately responsible for our own choices. Allowing oneself to be deceived is no excuse.
