SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Frédéric Chopin: Piano Concerto No. 1 e-minor

Olga Scheps performing live at Tonhalle Dusseldorf with the Chamber Orchestra of Polish Radio,

Conductor – Agnieszka Duczmal.

Jan. 22, 2014

00:00 1. Maestoso
22:02 2. Romance
33:38 3. Rondo

This next piece comes to us thanks to SMC.

Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You

In the spirit of those strings, and the Eagle’s Hotel California, I came upon this last night late, while browsing.

Not classical per se, but, a familiar tune, covered well, even with the overdubs.

Hope those who enjoyed the music of the 70’s can let this No Lyrics guitar composition bring you some good vibes on this fine 2nd Sunday of Easter morn.

Cheers.

These next three pieces come to us from ursel doran.

Conquest of Paradise (Vangelis) – Cello-Orchester Baden-Württemberg

Once again Heaven has helped us with all your wonderful efforts and selections.

THANKS MUCH Sir!

This the creativity of the human race is well demonstrated with the mandolin efforts here.

A similar effort from this one instrument orchestra is worth a listen!

Ana Vidović – FULL CONCERT – CLASSICAL GUITAR – Live from St. Mark’s, SF

The Omni concerts are an additional effort worth pursuing, and new to me.

The Moldau

Today, we’ll hear some compositions by the Czech composer, Bedrich Smetana (1824 – 1884).

Smetana was naturally gifted as a composer, and gave his first public performance at the age of 6. He is considered in his homeland to be the father of Czech music.

Internationally he is best known for his opera The Bartered Bride and for the symphonic cycle Ma vlast (“My Fatherland”). The latter contains the famous symphonic poem “Vltava”, also popularly known by its German name “Die Moldau” (in English, “The Moldau”).

So, let’s start with “The Moldau.” It is performed here by the Gimnazija Kranj Symphony orchestra with Nejc Becan conducting.

Sarka

We’ll follow that with “Sarka (My Country Prague Spring 2011)”

Bedrich Smetana-Overture from “The Bartered Bride”

Next, we’ll hear Smetana’s Overture From the Bartered Bride, performed here by the Berliner Philharmoniker with Mariss Jansons at the baton.

Dance of the Comedians

We’ll follow that with the “Dance of the Comedians” from The Bartered Bride performed by Tomasz Chmiel – conductor and the Young Cracow Philharmonic.

Bedrich Smetana – Ma Vlast – 5. Tabor 6. Blanik

We’ll close it out with Tabor and Blanik – both from Ma Vlast performed by the Wuhan Philharmonic Orchestra with Maciej Zoltowski – conductor.
