Well, what was it?

I didn’t realize this was a Boomer page, lol.

1st 2 years of HS were all about Van Halen. I was a young aspiring guitarist. I was given the 1984 album for my 14th birthday. I worked on learning it front to back and back to front. That year some new kids started at my school. One of them had a relative fairly high up at MTV. He told us two inside stories, 1. Van Halen was done after the 1984 tour and 2. Rob Halford was gay. We didn’t believe either, but he was right.

Then, my junior year a kid brought a cassette to study hall. It was a band I had heard of but wasn’t familiar with. The tape was The $5.98 EP (If they try to charge more, STEAL IT! )and sounded like nothing I ever heard before. I was blown away by Metallica and never looked back. Then when they started to suck in the 90’s (Napster Era) I moved on.

Metallica always sucked.
It’s because Lars is a douchebag.

Sun Ra, Mahavishnu, Miles Davis, Weather Report, Touch, Egg, Gracious – the more experimental the better. I was a black sheep even among my fellow hard rockin’ pot smoking high school friends. ‘Underground’ FM radio was just being born and I was the only one my age interested. I would sneak 30 miles to downtown Chicago to see Sun Ra in church basements and whatever other edgy music I could find as a somewhat clueless but very welcome underage young lady at any 21+ID door. Good times!

Beach Boys, Beatles, Led Zepplin, Bad Co. The list goes on…..
We are truly blessed to have lived through a musical renaissance like no other in history and that’s not likely to repeat any time soon.

Saw the Beatles at the Seattle Coliseum in 64. Couldn’t hear a word of the songs. Ears were ringing for a week afterwards. Best $5 I ever spent.
