Vacation? Yes
Going anywhere? No
In Colorado, the most beautiful places on earth are less than
2 hours away to a trailhead. Backpack, bag, small tent,
USGS map, and a flyrod. High lakes filled with trout, some unnamed.
If you hike without trails, you’ll never see a soul. And it’s dirt cheap.
😩😩😩😭😭😭
What. You don’t like dirt and cactuses???
In Texas, we have some of the finest dirt in the world!!!
So fine, it gets into EVERYTHING!!!
And sure makes for some purty sunsets.
Oh yes. LOVE Texas! Love the 105 degree temps. Love the feeling of a blow torch in my face. Love scalding my feet on the pavement around the pool. Love walking my dog for 5 minutes before he refuses to move another inch due to severe panting, all while I receive 3rd degree burns. Love taking a drive in the country while I lose two layers of flesh on my legs from melting to the seat. It is awesome. 🙂
But, most of all I love the people. AND the sunsets. And that’s the darn truth!
And some great chow, too.
Yes, food & music here is excellent!
Beauty abounds throughout the country. You don’t really need to travel far in most cases.
You name your Trout?
CO is a shit hole, period; that the most beautiful places on earth are to be found there is a pathetic joke.
Wow, I got a ticket there once…and locked up for the night in the Colorado Springs PD jail, but I wouldn’t claim that there isn’t some of the most memorable scenery in the country.
HAHAHAHAHA!
Yeah, it’s a visual toilet.
LOLOLL!!
What’s a “vacation”?
A state of mind. I vacation every day.
When in the corporate grind I worked with a guy for a while whose favorite saying was, “every day is a holiday”. I LMAO talking with him. Humor helps.
As part of a trade association convention, the Effie Sandestin next week. Tax deductable. Splitting up the 6 hr. drive in Fernandina Beach each way.
There are so many “I got ya’s” When traveling now. Make sure the hotel is not being remodeled or half the rooms are filled with illegals. Does you plane have a flight crew? – the list goes on and on. Many hotels don’t have maid service every day. I was at a Holiday Inn where you had to bring your towels to the front desk to get clean ones.
We live on a lake, here in Minneapolis. Have a pro-kitchen, like to cook and grill – I’ll take my vacation right here at home.
We home schooled. We would go on vacations after labor day – no lines – no waiting.
Agree re summer vs after Labor day. I plan to never take a vacation in the summer ever again.
$210.00 room at an upscale Hampton Inn & Suites in Charlotte. Had to make the bed every day and get towels delivered outside my door on the 3rd day. I carry a small trash bag as well.
Two week road trip starting from Las Vegas to National Parks of Utah, tent camping.
The best kind of camping. Have fun and enjoy nature. The Zion is beautiful, kissed by the hand of God IMO. Great place to backpack.
Zion is one of my absolute favorite parks. The Narrows was a very cool experience. Cute little town surrounding it too.
The gorge as I call it, with walls a thousand feet high and the Virgin river running through it, I know it well.
I forgot: We are also planning to go back to Six Flags in scenic New Jersey to ride the tallest roller coaster in the world, King da Ka, before a taller one gets completed in Saudi Arabia in 2023. Plus, I want to stick it to Six Flags by maximizing the last year that I still have my 2-meals a day dining pass, which they have gotten rid of and also reduced the chicken meal from 4 strips to 3. Maybe I can rival that guy who ate there every day. The invitation to Stucky to ride roller coasters drunk and vomit on the libtards still stands.
“…The invitation to Stucky to ride roller coasters drunk and vomit on the libtards still stands…”
We want pics, please. Lots of em!!!
And don’t forget the reaction shots of puke-soaked lefties.
I’ll be going to a fantasy camp for 5 days.
1000 up.
Is it a bring your own sex doll camp?
I’m trying to visit Russia for the first time, this year.
Will in earnest start pestering travel agencies end of June.
I’m still confused how to pay for expenses in the country… credit cards are now blocked by the Western issuers, but do EC (Maestro) still allow to withdraw cash (Rubles) from a Russian ATM?
Now that’s a spectacular idea. Once there, open a bank account immediately. Transfer 80 percent of your funds. Let us know how it went. No sarcasm here, whatsoever.
I’m in Alaska and retired. It’s vacation 24/7. Going to Seward Alaska to fish for some Red Salmon. Rumors are it’s been hot with many people limiting out fast, 6 fish. We usually take our out of state trips in the winter.
How much do the red salmon weigh? If you filet one, what kind of yield can you get? Dunno if I can go to Alaska this summer, but I need to go sometime. Cost of fuel this year to go there will be a killer.
I caught five. The two smaller fishes’ filets ended up about 5 lbs of meat. The 3 larger fish ended up about 15 lbs of filets. I will also barbecue the bones and get a meal out of it. Seward fish are not that big. The Kenai River has more fish in the 8-to-12-pound range. That just for Red Salmon. Silver Salmon can get in the 15 pound range but are not as plentiful.
Wish I could be back in Maine on the lake but sweating it out in Florida for now, a staycation.
Sweating it out in TX, thinking about going to FL so I can sweat even more.
Nice seabreeze here on the coast
I see lots of Florida tagged cars here in Houston and always wonder why.
We went to Cayman once in December.
The locals had some fun at our expense by pointing out that Texans usually go there in the summer to escape the heat.
Does a very long road trip to scout out a new state in which to live count? Just got back. Now the real work begins.
Oh, do tell. Where you thinking?
Are in your Arizona now? Not sure where I got that from.
I bet it’s Tennessee and it will be the real next Beartaria.
There ain’t no vacationing in these times.
Times a’wasting.
Der nixt, der nein, der no.
Hmm? “The nixt the no of the no” Help me out.
A favorite line/expression of my ‘ex-(now deceased) German father-in-law.
Basically, HELL NO!
Got it! Those timeless expressions. Ya Gotta luv um!
We “staycation” right here in our rural retreat. The problem with a vacation is the fact that other people are doing the same thing. I hate people and don’t want to deal with them. We thought about going down to Gettysburg for the 4th because they do the reenactments down there. But Bidenflation has kind of stalled that for us. Plus with out little homestead operation it is hard to get away and that is perfectly fine for me.
I can’t afford to pay attention … let alone take a vacation … the last time I took one of those was my honeymoon in 1980 —
This year — maybe go out into the back yard … or even into the front yard …
Choices … so many choices …
George Jones said it best:
Thinking headwaters of the Rio Grande or Arkansas rivers for some fishin’.
Or maybe E. St. Louis for the finest in modern safari. Camden, NJ not out of the running either.
Auntie make sure all your calibers begin with 4
Buffalo river in Arkansas is great. Designated Wild and scenic river. Depending on what section of the river, you will be near the “Grand Canyon of the Ozarks”.
Many moons ago, I rafted the Arkansas River above the Royal Gorge. It was a great trip.
Fantastic adventures await all who dare.
Well done Pat.
We wanted to do the Gorge, but the guides said it was too dangerous and would not go.
Yup: Surf City, NC
Yes. To the Okeechobee Tactical Range.
You could do a bit of semi-rural safari in Belle Glade, if you are so inclined to combine activities.
I work in Okeechobee once in while. It’s about 2500 miles away from home though. Is that a nice range?
Auntie sometimes gets cornfuzed in the summer’s heat.
Just returned, Perdido Key FL
No problem for me and the doggy, because of the 7.3 diesel that is converted to run on old fryer oil. Did it way back when we had the 4$ a gal obama fuel. Just a single Sonic drive inn has 75gals a month of oil. Wasn’t cheap to install secondary fuel system. which I rarely used during Trump years. Greasecar is the one I used. Not without problems, but, better than 150$ fill ups! Extra long trips require carrying IBC tote with hand pump.
Reminds me to finish my generator project. Picked up a Cold War era MEP 15kw military generator on trailer. It is purely mechanical injection. I bought a setup used for VW TDIs diesels and planned to do a waste oil conversion system. It comes with a tank and all the proper filtration, low wattage heating element, switch over from standard diesel, etc. I have been cutting the current diesel with used motor oil and tranny fluid. Have to change filters more often but it burns it no problem.
What does the used fryer oil cost? I have a non-turbo 7.3 diesel in my hauler.
No, the animals the fields the fences the orchards the equipment the buildings etc always need work and there are no others that work for the Little Red Hen.
My wife was just complaining that I haven’t taken her anywhere in 20 years. I told her that I can’t take her somewhere every 20 years…once you spoil them…smh.
If you don’t spoil them someone else will.
ha ha ha…now you funny too.
The mother inlaw canceled our plans so, we’re going to get a B&B for a few days. The rest of the week we’ll take the grandkids to water parks, the zoo and such.
I’m taking 10 days off to have 4 disc’s replaced and some rods and screws installed in my back.
I plan to use drugs during that time.
Huh,sounds like time well spent!
When you are feeling better claim you are not,i.e. more meds.,then,a vacation!
I know it say on bottle do not mix with alcohol, tis a suggestion/not a law,mix away with care!
“Take a trip and never leave the farm.”
At scenic Put-in-Bay right now, weather is perfect, the drinks are cold and the walleye is tasty!
Bought many acres with small lake 20 years ago.
Got rid of all debt.
Have been on semi-retired vacation since.
Going away to anywhere other people are ‘on vacation’ is no vacation to me. Friends ask to come here and camp at the lake for their vacation.
I am having a 2 bedroom house built this year, so no. My vacation will be renting and using a stump grinder.
Like many who posted, I am now living on my retirement property, away from people (but not too far). Just need 19 months of working and travelling to pull the cord.
Good local beer breweries, so I will vacation locally.
Just got back from visiting family in OK. 104 and 30 mph winds reminded me of why I left western OK. It was like a blowtorch on your skin.
Just got back from San Clemente, a quiet little fishing village in Ecuador. Good body surfing. It’s a six hour drive from my home in La Merced, a rural barrio of Quito. So I go every month or month and a half. Tough life, but somebody has to do it.
Are you a native of Ecuador or an expatriate? If ex-pat, how difficult is it to relocate to Ecuador? What kind of problems, other than becoming more fluent in Spanish?
Well, not much vacation planned, does driving 40 miles to see the great band Tesla count?!
I saw em twice this May in the Hampster and am seeing em on Webster lake on July 31.
Sure, only a day vacation but one hell of a day!
I was in a real bad spot early spring with the death of me mum and all, seeing these guys wiped a smile on me face again and got me out of me hole had dug for meself, plus,at last show(s) hooking up with folks had not seen in years, yep, this is me vacation during the summer(just hope the diesel supply holds out for gear and band!).
Planning a National Parks tour for fall. Washington NPs, Glacier, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Utah parks, Rocky Mt, Wind Cave, Badlands, Teddy R, etc.
The US is the most beautiful country. Nothing else comes close.
Who would neg you for this?!
Sigh……..,OK,hold me beer,think I know who:
Yep,got the neggars,I will take me beer back thanks!
I love the Tetons but will say as a East Coat Gypsy love the Kancamangus with river/pile of rocks in center of Swift river ect.,still, just small hills compared to the hills out west!
I loved eating outside in Boulder with the hills/mountains looking down and the ravens eating fries from me hand from the cool old school building there!
Damn shame the Western Knife Cutlery shut down, own one of their great Bowie style knives.
Hi James – yup, you guessed it. For some, TBP thumbs are more about the messenger than the message (looks to be around 40%!). Will do some research on the Kancamangus. Sounds interesting.
NOPE… 2 things I hate are high prices and crowds. Make that 3, I hate liberals also. I am waiting for Biden’s economy to implode before I go on vacation. I love recessions, great deals, no crowds, and getting you ass kissed if you do spend a little money. I am hoping this is the mother of all depressions….
Nope.
My Relief broke my boat in March, and had to wait for parts to be machined in Germany. Just flew into Dutch May 1st, spent a MONTH rebuilding the reduction gear and now I’m stuck here fishing until late October/early November.
So, even though I bought Mrs. Ed a lightly used 2020 37′ Class A Motorhome in January, I won’t actually get to go out in it until NEXT year…..
Gotta make the Shekels while I can…..
Phuk…..

Sometime between now and November, the Oregon Coast is calling. Not looking forward to the flight. I book the obscure hour flights, fewer passengers, fewer peeps in the airport…usually.
