The Gutenberg Conspiracy (The Media Matrix — Part 1)

Via Off-Guardian

From the Renaissance to the Reformation, from the fall of feudalism to the rise of capitalism, from the Scientific Revolution to the Industrial Revolution, from the way we order our thoughts to what we choose to think about, nothing survived the printing revolution intact. Our world is the world that the printing press has created.

Money lenders used the power of the purse and printing press to propagandize the faithful into believing that the rise of Protestantism was a grass roots movement, when it was a top down affair that led directly to the shattering of the spiritual authority of the earthly church into tens of thousands of fragments. And, here we are today, with no Church authority to counter evil in government and society.

Philip II: (1527-1598)
William Thomas Walsh

“The Jews and Marranos
who had become a political and financial power there, who had
influenced Mary of Hungary against the Inquisition, and “had offered
mountains of gold to the Flemings”21 to suppress it throughout the
reign of Charles, were hardly likely to welcome the pupil of Dr.
Siliceo, or to make smooth his path any more than expediency
demanded.
They were already in control of a great part of the new printing
industry. They were already publishing thousands of Protestant
Bibles and tracts in the Netherlands, for secret distribution in France,
Italy, and even in Spain. ”

“Our world is the world that the printing press has created.”
-Off Guardian

Sorry, wrong answer. Today’s world is post-literate by about half a century.
Broadcast radio, while a wonderful platform for propaganda, never made literacy disappear. Since that time the Tel Avi\/sion took firm control of dissemination of data, info, entertainment and propaganda. The TV still holds billions in thrall.

And now the computer/informatics/cybernetics also has several billions in its headlock.

Those two modalities, more than anything else, have transformed the post-modern world into the totalitarian nightmare we live through every day.

Test Your Knowledge.

Q: What was the very first thing printed on the Gutenberg printing press?

1) A work of Fiction
2) A book filled with errors
3) Propaganda
4) The Bible
5) All of the above

I’ve been told it was the Bible but I can’t imagine that’s true.

Whole lotta people take ink & impressions “better” than paper ever did or could.

But that’s not really quite it.

Tabula rasa never was.

“The writing on your walls” as the saying goes came into this world with you from the factory.

And so it was only a matter of time before zer Gutenberg, or somebody else, figured a way to project all that – & feed the illusion that words, like germs, theory ~ incoming! ~ is “how it works.”

Terrain. Terroir.

The Terrible Twos: I need you to read me who I am.

The Three R’s: rote-rote-rote the boat. Cue Charleton Heston’s cold, dead hands:

No fatfuks on that pleasure cruiser.

Got to love the drummer.

And a fabulous idea for some real “prison reform.”

You seem to have a preconceived idea.

Like your wit precedes you.

Except actually its @conception, @cede. Everybody gets what they get.

But a lot of them want more, & don’t care much how they get it.

Written language only came to certain continents late in the 19th century.
