London's mayor sounds alarm over winter crisis

Millions of people in the UK could find themselves unable to put food on the table and heat their homes this coming winter if the government doesn’t intervene, London Mayor Sadiq Khan said on Saturday.

“We’ve seen nothing like this before,” Khan wrote on Twitter, referring to soaring energy prices and record inflation of more than 10%.

“We’re facing a winter where for millions it won’t be about choosing between heating or eating but tragically being able to afford neither,” he warned.

“This can’t happen,” the mayor insisted, adding that the British government “needs to step in so that people can meet their basic needs.”

He accompanied the post with a data from the Auxilione energy consultancy, predicting that energy bills in the UK could increase by 80% in October, exceeding £3,600 ($4,292) per year on average. For comparison, the cap set by energy industry regulator, Ofgem, in October 2021 stood at £1,400 per year.

Khan also spoke on the same issue on Friday while visiting a warehouse that distributes supplies to food banks in one of London’s boroughs.

He gave assurances that his administration is “committed” to providing support for struggling Londoners, but called on the government to work harder, as there is “no sign of this rise in costs slowing down”.

“Ministers must act now to help prevent this cost of living crisis becoming a national disaster,” the mayor said.

Economic difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic in Europe have been further exacerbated by Western sanctions imposed on Moscow over the conflict in Ukraine and the subsequent decrease in Russian natural gas supplies to the EU.

While the UK is not directly dependent on Russia for fuel, it’s been hard-hit by soaring prices on the global market.

Millions of people in the UK could find themselves unable to put food on the table and heat their homes this coming winter if the government doesn’t intervene, London Mayor Sadiq Khan said on Saturday.

The stunning absence of self awareness is a hallmark of these people.

Government intervention is the cause of the situation, not the solution.

Never was a problem that the govt couldn’t make worse. And having made it worse, the thought of reversing course is inconceivable, so doubling down on the stupid is the choice to be made. And so the death spiral occurs.

I often wish that I was 35 again. I had virtually no knowledge or interest in what was happening in the world, or of the stupidity of govt. at that age. I was too busy building skills, making stuff, and starting and rearing a family to be bothered by such things. But then, as I gradually had more time, I started focusing on the world at large. Boy, wasn’t that a fucking mistake. I sometimes really envy the fat, dumb and happy.

Funny few years back the EU gubmin advised people to buy pellet stoves, during that time a bag of 25 lbs of pellets (about 35 gallons bag) was between 4 and 5 euros. Today, you are extremely lucky if you find one bag at 12 euros.

Funny how “government intervention” always happens to be two out of the three.
Come to think of it, it’s actually all three.

I was in London in 1985.Was actually very nice not as expensive as today. From what I hear it’s a lot like our major cities in the US today.More foreigners that natural born whites. And extremely expensive today . We ate Wimpy Burgers at Piccadilly Circus every day and drank the only cold beer they had Fosters Lager at the pub . Now it’s tea and curry and kebabs in Londonistan.

But many cities have outlawed woodstove and fireplaces.

Visiting some friends back in January I was informed of this. They have a lovely old home built in the 1950’s with a great big fireplace and an Elmira wood stove in the kitchen (just decorative now).

Apparently their house is old enough that their fireplace is grandfathered so they can burn wood but all the newer homes in the region can’t.

AFAIK lots of Euro-peon cities have implemented the same rules. I can see the scenario now, no nat-gas so the Peons burn wood, and the government fines them. It will happen.

And I have not seen a multi-story high rise with a (wood) fireplace or wood stove, ever. Plenty of nat-gas ones in apartments though. D’oh.

I love that when the criminals in government create these problem on purpose, they always say things like “We’ve seen nothing like this before”.

Then they’ll come in and offer the solution to the problems that they created by saying things like “The British government needs to step in so that people can meet their basic needs.”

Same playbook over and over again. Problem, reaction, solution.

Maggie left GB in pretty good shape, but that was almost 30 years ago. Same as Reagan here and NYC under Rudy.

Then “government” steps in to “solve” the problem(s).

Yeah, mebbe the WEPH will move to bring several millions moar refugees into old Blighty for some extra dieversity and vibrancy. Yes, that ought to help the chilly shituation.

(And then wait until Qween Betty croaks; commence the Big & Final Flush for what was once Grate Britain.)

‘There Will be Problems’ Open Borders-Loving EU States Running Out of Places to Put Migrants

Having invited in tens of thousands of migrants from outside the bloc, the open borders-loving EU member states of Ireland and Germany are running out of places to put their newly acquired asylum seekers, and have now both been forced to open up tents to house would-be asylum seekers.

I always thought the brits were cucks from the days of watching monty python and witnessing their loyalty to the monarchy. I always thought “what a bunch faggots, easily led and humored morans, I sure am glad my country will never yield to such open faggotry” then along came 9/11 and the rapid decline of the US of cuckolds.

One of my old bosses was with Paton and was one of the first Americans to enter a concentration camp. What they found was horrific.
So if you can explain why an Irish Catholic heavy equipment operator from Massachusetts turned tanker, who probably never even met a Jew before he left for Europe, and probably never interacted with any after, would lie about the conditions that he found when liberating a concentration camp I would really be fascinated.

So if you can explain why …….. would lie about the conditions that he found when liberating a concentration camp

I’ll attempt to.

A lie is intentional deception. Maybe he was presumptuous and thus self deceived? One anecdotal report is likely only a snapshot of what the observer surmised.

What conditions exactly? What caused those conditions? What caused the causes of those conditions?

To be clear, I have no specific factual knowledge about the horrors that did or did not occur anywhere during WW2 or any other war. Just one possible explanation.

Folks over there better hope McDonalds restocks that “test” chicken sandwich in the UK.

Why did the chicken cross the pond?

McDonald’s MCD will bring a chicken remix of its famous Big Mac sandwich to select restaurants in the United States, after a test run of its “Chicken Big Mac” was a hit in the United Kingdom, according to multiple media reports.
