Vietnam War protests: The 1967 march on the Pentagon - The Washington Post

Image Analysis: March on the Pentagon, October 21, 1967 - Bill of Rights Institute

In Washington, D.C. nearly 100,000 people gather to protest the American war effort in Vietnam. More than 50,000 of the protesters marched to the Pentagon to ask for an end to the conflict. The protest was the most dramatic sign of waning U.S. support for President Lyndon Johnson’s war in Vietnam. Polls taken in the summer of 1967 revealed that, for the first time, American support for the war had fallen below 50 percent.

When the Johnson administration announced that it would ask for a 10 percent increase in taxes to fund the war, the public’s skepticism increased. The peace movement began to push harder for an end to the war—the march on Washington was the most powerful sign of their commitment to this cause. The Johnson administration responded by launching a vigorous propaganda campaign to restore public confidence in its handling of the war. The president even went so far as to call General William Westmoreland, commander of U.S. forces in Vietnam, back to the United States to address Congress and the public. The effort was somewhat successful in tempering criticisms of the war. However, the Tet Offensive of early 1968 destroyed much of the Johnson Administration’s credibility concerning the Vietnam War.

The protest was also important in suggesting that the domestic Cold War consensus was beginning to fracture. Many of the protesters were not simply questioning America’s conduct in Vietnam, but very basis of the nation’s Cold War foreign policy.

And by 2022, nothing’s changed. Kids born after 9/11 are dying in Afghanistan, etc., and Green berets are deployed to Mali, for crying out out loud, while America’s bridges collapse. But hey – vote harder, bitchez. And, uh, who killed JFK, again? Who was it again, Mr. Trump? Vote harder. One, two, three, VOTE!!! Again! One, two, three, VOTE!!!

Yes, do vote against the Ukraine Warmongers who stole the 2020 election (a proven fact), or forever shut your commie mouth, which you won’t ever do because that is what commies do, constantly complain and bitch about everything (and fix nothing) as if the conservatives are to blame for everything that is wrong in the world; when the fact is liberal democrats ruled 8 years under Hussein, now 2 years under FJB (10 total) and Trump was POTUS 4 years but was constantly sabotaged by liberal democrats and RINOs…So who’s really to blame liberal bitches? Communist Critical Theory, Covid Genocide, Global Warming Lies, Great Society Destruction, Affirmative Action Kakistocracy, Massive dollar printing for Social Programs and hyperinflation: the Left swinging Pendulum is a Wrecking Ball and Liberals have been begging for it. There couldn’t be enough Nuremberg Trials in just 2023 to bring Justice back to America.

Now do the Reagan/Bush I & II years, especially when the Reps also controlled both Houses.

What about the Clinton and Carter years? The democrats controlled congress and cancelled the four years of GI Bill I had EARNED by my years of service. Your remark is another Critical Theory Tactic. Reagan followed Jimmy and accomplish some good in my opinion as a USAF Officer but both of the Bushes were elite SOBs and if memory is correct: #1 attacked Panama and Delta Forces murdered civilians; then attacked Iraq and Afghanistan; #2 immediately opened the Military to Queers, and attacked Iraq. All three greatly expanded the debt and NWO tyranny. It is very discouraging but not justification to not vote on 8Nov and hand the election to the Communist.

Keeping the context of the times in mind…I grew up with a guy who got involved in the Anti War movement at Rutgers…while I was in Nam…we weren’t close friends but I liked him.

I was home a couple of weeks (1970) and without warning he super angrily (he was a little drunk and so was I) confronted me screaming spittle in my face in a local bar…with the classic line of the time…I was a murderer and a baby killer…and I was bred for violence!!!

(Well, he got the last one right).

I beat him to a bloody pulp in the parking lot. I almost choked him to death. On lookers eventually swarmed me (who we both knew) and saved his life and me from prison. I had both thumbs in his Adams apple while I was swishing his head around inside a sticker bush. He was semi conscience during the swish.

I was told he didn’t come out of his house for two weeks because his face had looked like a swollen black-eyed busted lip road map.

Never, ever had another problem in town with anyone after that. My sister told me word had spread of the choking swish like lightening.

Every time I came back to that bar everyone was so polite…never saw him in it again.

Saw him one more time two years later in a McDonalds…I walked in…when he saw me he ran out like he had just seen the devil, burning rubber in the parking lot as he remembered the thumbs and the sticker bush swish.

Like I said keeping the context of the times in mind the protesters were right…and an’t hindsight 20-20…but best to keep a civil tongue in your head…it could get cut by stickers …just saying.
