FOREVER YOUNG

Let’s dance in style, let’s dance for a while
Heaven can wait, we’re only watching the skies
Hoping for the best but expecting the worst
Are you gonna drop the bomb or not?

Let us die young or let us live forever
We don’t have the power but we never say never
Sitting in a sandpit, life is a short trip
The music’s for the sad men

Can you imagine when this race is won
Turn our golden faces into the sun
Praising our leaders, we’re getting in tune
The music’s played by the, the mad man

Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever?
Forever, and ever
Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever?
Forever young

Some are like water, some are like the heat
Some are a melody and some are the beat
Sooner or later, they all will be gone
Why don’t they stay young

It’s so hard to get old without a cause
I don’t want to perish like a fading horse
Youth’s like diamonds in the sun
And diamonds are forever

So many adventures couldn’t happen today
So many songs we forgot to play
So many dreams swinging out of the blue
We let them come true

Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever?
Forever, and ever
Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever?
Forever, and ever

Forever young, I wanna be forever young
Do you really want to live forever? (Forever)

My favorite version starring a young and vivacious Jennifer Connelly

This song will always haunt me. Kristen French had been missing for a few days. I was in a friend’s dorm room in university and the announcer came on the radio announcing they’d confirmed a body found rolled up in carpet on a nearby side road earlier in the day was Kristen French. They then played Forever Young in her honour, and for the rest of us mourning her loss.

Anytime I hear the song, I’m taken back to that moment in my youth and recall the horror and fear that Paul Bernardo caused in the area where I was living then.

Though the physical body may be old and decrepit. When we live and dwell in the house of the lord. We are forever young. Soul is immortal. The physical body has limitations. Like all good music, this songs reminds us of our true heritage. To dwell in the spiritual planes where God created us.

Asking the bolded question 34 years later. I do not want to live forever. I’ve lived too long. He doesn’t seem to think so. Good song.

This made me think of the Connells video for ‘74-‘75. The 1993 video showed their 1975 high school classmates and it was updated in 2015. Take heed youngsters. Time waits for no one. The Connells are American Celtic music.

Interesting. Back in the days, for me that was just another song in the ‘late disco, moving towards what became techno’ category – I didn’t take it serious at all.
