Amid Energy Crisis, the Green Delusion Collides With Reality… Here’s What Happens Next

Energy Crisis and the Green Delusion

25 refrigerators.

That’s how much the additional electricity consumption per household would be if the average US home adopted electric vehicles.

Congressman Thomas Massie—an electrical engineer—revealed this information while discussing with Pete Buttigieg, the Secretary of Transportation, President Biden’s plan to have 50% of cars sold in the US be electric by 2030.

The current and future grid in most places will not be able to support each home running 25 refrigerators—not even close. Just look at California, where the grid is already buckling under the existing load.

Massie claims, correctly, in my view, that the notion of widespread adoption of electric vehicles anytime soon is a dangerous fantasy based on political science, not sound engineering.

Nevertheless, Western governments are falling over themselves to shun hydrocarbons—especially of Russian origin—and promote so-called “green” technologies like electric vehicles and supposed renewables such as wind and solar, which are better termed as unreliables.

Here’s the big problem, though…

Wind and solar power might be useful in specific situations. Still, it’s ridiculous to think they can provide reliable base load power for an advanced industrial economy even as they are now—never mind when every household is running 25 refrigerators.

It’s not complicated.

When it comes to reliable baseload power, most of humanity has only three choices:

1) hydrocarbons—coal, oil, and gas

2) nuclear power

3) abandon modern civilization for a pre-industrial standard of living.

Aside from friendly aliens delivering a new magical energy technology, there are no other alternatives for most places.

So, with Western governments intent on going green, sanctioning Russia, and shunning hydrocarbons, it boils down to a simple choice.

They can either embrace nuclear energy—which has zero carbon emissions—or give up reliable electricity.

I suspect it won’t be long—perhaps sometime this winter—before Western governments turn to nuclear energy in a big way. There are indications they are already doing that.

In short, the green delusion is an enormous market distortion—a blessing in disguise. Distortions in the market allow shrewd speculators to get positioned for big potential profits as they collide with reality.

Uranium mining stocks stand to be a primary beneficiary of this trend. It’s making uranium’s already attractive supply/demand situation even more appealing.

Nuclear power plants account for most of the demand for uranium. They are inseparably linked to the uranium price and market cycles.

A nuclear power plant produces energy by splitting uranium atoms. The energy released boils water, producing steam that drives turbine generators. These plants use fuel made from uranium ore. First, miners extract the ore from the ground. Then it’s enriched and made into fuel pellets.

Every year, the world’s active nuclear plants need around 137 million pounds of uranium. This demand is inflexible, meaning the power plants must obtain uranium or the lights go out.

Couple this inflexible demand with a precarious supply situation, in which most production occurs in unstable regions, like Africa and Central Asia. Further, it typically takes ten years to bring a new mine online.

In short, it is difficult for producers to ramp up production while uranium demand is rising. It often takes years for them to catch up. As a result, price is the only way for the market to resolve itself.

That’s why the uranium price can have extraordinary spikes.

However, the uranium market often doesn’t just settle into equilibrium during these periods. The uranium price often overshoots where it needs to go to balance the market, creating an enormous bull market, which then turns into a massive bear market.

It’s a cycle that has played out three times before, and I think it will occur again soon.

Uranium Cycles

Looking at the Big Picture for uranium, I see a precarious supply situation that includes shrinking production capacity, a long lead time to develop new mines (roughly ten years), dwindling inventories, and an unstable geopolitical situation in which countries are scrambling to secure their energy supplies. Yet, at the same time, there is growing (inflexible) demand from new nuclear power plants.

With supply shrinking and demand rising, I think the stage is set for uranium prices to overshoot to the upside, just as we saw in the previous three bull market cycles with similar dynamics.

Doug Casey is a legendary speculator and a long-time friend and colleague. He made incredible profits in the last uranium bull market. Here is what he has to say about uranium stocks:

“When the market wants into gold stocks it’s like trying to force the contents of Hoover Dam through a garden hose. In the case of uranium stocks, it’s more like a soda straw. It’s a very small market.”

The key is to get positioned now in select uranium stocks, companies with world-class resources and best able to survive until the next bull market takes off in earnest.

Covering this niche area of the market and finding the best opportunities among publicly-traded uranium mining stocks is a primary focus of Contra Speculator, my premium investment research publication. Click here for more details.

Thank goodness Hillary Clinton sold off, what was it 20% or 25%, of our uranium supply to who again? What an astute move by HRC and Obama, always looking out for our country, NOT! Don’t think for a minute the Greenies will ever accept nuclear energy or a Demonrat administration’s policies and regulations will allow implementing a fast track to bring on new plants. If we could go down this path, utilizing mini and micro factory built reactors would be the ticket. No more mega nuclear power plants, disburse throughout the country to help eliminate the vulnerability of our aged grid, go local!

There was a time where our energy usage was going down. Right around the break of 2000, things were getting more energy efficient. The incandescent light bulb was being replaced by fluorescent and then LED. There wasn’t a need or a push for new forms of production. Then the greenfucks started closing the coal plants and adding EVs to the grid.

New hydroelectric dams are not likely due to the water shortages that are occurring. Nuclear is extremely regulated and takes a decade to approve and build. When is the last time a new nuclear plant was created? Coal is a dead issue. We could replace coal with natural gas fired plants, but the greenies don’t want to frack. That leaves us with “renewable resources”.

I despise solar and wind farms. They do nothing but destroy good farm land (their goal). The sun doesn’t always shine and the wind don’t always blow. But they have a solution for that. Have you heard? Tesla Megapacks of course! A huge area littered with tractor trailer size buildings that house batteries. They are going to store electricity in huge battery farms, probably adjacent to the wind and solar farms. Now how can that be good for the environment?? Lithium batteries take a lot of energy to mine (by slaves) and they don’t last forever.

I don’t see the future of our electric grid looking so good…

As a resident of central WA, the hydropower production center of the PNW…
The power crisis in CA directly coincides with the data centers that have been installed in Chelan, Douglas and Grant counties. Prior to their construction, surplus power was sold… to California. Another Microsoft farm is coming online in Douglas county as of this writing, with ground breaking shortly on another in Chelan county. Citizens are told to turn off their quality of life… but never a whisper of throttling back the server farms.
Of course, there is also no mention of the 260 MILLION gallons of water per anum consumed by each of these monstrosities as well!!!
Climate change my ass!!

Of course convincing brain dead idiots in government and leftist skulls of mush now graduating from college with a degree in lesbian underwater basket weaving does not comprehend energy transference and use curves from time of year latitude & longitude and of course conversion factors from coal Oil gas nuclear, they’re clueless !
Nothing can maintain our American lifestyle like fossil fuels and the energy derived from its use !
I installed solar panels and wind generators for 20 years plus on sail boats and typically we could produce enough wattage to keep the lights on the steaks frozen and beer cold ! You want heating or air conditioning you gotta fire up that 4 to 8 kilowatt diesel generator ! I installed them too !

I don’t think most people realize the parasites that own this world know exactly what they’re doing. The whole point is they don’t want you using resources, whether gas or electric. However, if they get everyone on electric it’s a whole lot easier to prevent people from traveling. It’s as simple as that. They do not plan on having enough electric capacity to charge everyone’s cars. In fact, you’ll be lucky to have enough energy to power your refrigerator. Everything else nope. They want us dead.

Hello all,

First let me apologize for writing a book here. I do get winded, but I think all needs to be said. I’ve been a reader of The Burning Platform for quite awhile now, and felt it is time I put in my 2 cents. I’ve been watching things for quite awhile now, and the direction is very clear when you consider all the pieces on the table even without knowing their end goal.

More and more we are hearing how we do not have the ability to support everyone in EV’s. What (almost) everyone is not doing though is connecting the dots. It is completely clear, the powers that be is not worried about the grid, or supporting everyone having an EV because they know a majority of us will not have one. This goes hand in hand with smart meters as well (note this). Having the ability to drive around and do what you need or please will become a thing for the upper-middle class – rich. As well, the powers that be can control who gets to charge and who doesn’t as well service to our homes. The grid exactly the size they want it to be, no matter what they tell us. There is no question at all, EV’s are a joke as a replacement for combustion in its current application. This also applies to green energy production as well. We are cheap, go with the lowest bidder who clearly cannot do the job at hand with the products they buy to use. Worst of all, the joke is on us, your children and grandchildren that will be caught in the cold once they start deciding if we can get electricity or not. This is nothing more than taking our ability to choose/come and go when we see fit, and giving it to them.

This is no longer about us, this is about replacing us, and turning America into a 3rd world. Why else crash the dollar, turn down budgets to maintain roads, reduce/vilify law enforcement, give our tax dollars to other countries while ignoring our own people in need (to name a few)? We are just in the way at this point, and they have a plan, we are just their sheep. Planning, prepping, and so on is just a band-aid and at best a slight extension of what is to come for us American’s.

/soapbox off topic
Since we just had the mid-term elections, I’ll just add this.. It is 2022, and we’ve already had unacceptable issues in our elections in the past. Sworn to fix the problem, they continue, even if just how long it takes to count votes. It is 100% clear they have no intention in truly fixing it, and 100% clear we as United States citizen’s do not care, like we use to only a few generations ago (1960’s and older). I remember my grandfather and even my father, making it a priority in knowing who is who in government, their voting records, or who they are as a person and what they’ve done to contribute. They also held them accountable for their decisions when in office. They would write letters, or even call to make their voices heard. When that did not work, and the issue was a big enough problem, voted them out. As a famous quote made the point in the past, you let enough rats in, it is no longer a rat problem, it is an infestation of the entire department/agency/group.
/end soapbox off topic

Doom and gloom? Perhaps, but reality is coming, weather you see it or not. This is about getting YOUR house in order, getting God back in the home, focusing on our family/neighbors and getting our country back. As the old saying use to be, God Family Country. Everything else is a distraction, or lure to give up one or all of these three things.

Just my 2 cents,
God bless you all!!

Lobbying just changed for electric cars is all. They really wanted to help the environment they would support mass transit and get us out of our cars. Because not only is lithium mining terrible for the environment and the waste from the batteries terrible, but personal transit is always less efficient than mass transit. So even though the young libs would be fine taking the bus or the train everywhere, real Americans are not. So it really just shows that now they’re beholden to the new crowd with the most money instead of actually caring about the environment.
