Just like everything else in my life, I modified those too. If they took B engines, I converted them to Cs. If they took Cs, I converted them to Ds. Many of them never came home. So what.

PF stood for “Posture Foundation”. I had numerous pairs as a young hellion.
Sneakers were a very important decision in a boy’s life, and mine was no exception. There were really only 2 brands to choose from in my mind, and they were either PF Flyers, or Red Ball Jets. The reason it was so important is because we believed what the commercials told us. The very fact was, that if you bought PF Flyers, you could run faster and jump higher! As soon as I got them, I ran and jumped and could swear I was faster, and I could most certainly, jump higher. This was a really important issue when I was 9, or so.

Lived in Chicago 1958-63. The Lincoln Park Zoo had a cage for The Purple People Eater. It was always covered with a shroud . The sign underneath it also said “DO NOT DISTURB. THE PURPLE PEOPLE EATER IS SLEEPING”.

Back in the day we rode three astride in the front seat, usually because it was easier to pass the doobie without being to obvious. One day cruise’n thru town and a bunch of friends were gathered at a corner.
I was sitting at the passenger door and as we were approaching the mob I reached over an honked the horn. Then ducked down, but stuck my arm up to wave. Took a few shots to the back of the head but I never laughed so hard in my life. Pretty sure others probably did much the same to embarrass the buddies but I made a point of never sitting three astride unless I was the driver or passenger door, never the middle. Got a lot of mileage out of that joke too.

Yeh that TV guide page….wow. Those really were the good ol’ days when you had maybe 30-40 cable channels and you could never find anything to watch. Now we have literally 1000s of channels available and still can’t find anything to watch.

I hadn’t seen a Reader’s Digest in years either, until this morning at the dentist’s office. Picked it up and read through the harrowing stories of the capital police as they fought back against the insurrection and saved democracy. We should be so thankful for their heroism and dedication to saving us from doom.

There were a dozen great songs in 1958 but I don’t think there was even one in 2021 that was one tenth as good; it has to do with who controls entertainment and everything else then and now. Dang, I love this stuff. I saw some similar pictures going through my mom’s old pictures from when I was a kid.
I didn’t have a Big Wheel, but I did have one of those Krazy Kars. It was a blast.
I found a Krazy Kar that someone was throwing out years ago. My kids rode it plenty, then we gave it to our neighbor for his grandsons. As you say, they had a blast with it.

’81 El Camino…one of the first cars my wife and I had (ours was midnight blue). Wonderful GM engineering, in order to change the #8 spark plug you had to lift the engine off the motor mounts because the exhaust header got in the way.
