The pantry of most American families today is probably looking a lot different than it was just a few months ago when grocery prices were lower and we still could find the majority of the products we usually rely on in our day-to-day lives. But now, shoppers are increasingly noticing the ongoing shortages at their favorite stores. With supply chain problems still impacting the production and delivery of goods, and mass migrations of employees searching for better wages resulting in labor shortages in the food sector, many of our favorite staple items are becoming harder to find. And that’s especially true at Costco.
In fact, new reports reveal that Costco warehouses are facing many different shortages, and dozens of products are about to be discontinued. Costco customers are getting more and more frustrated as they see essential items disappearing from the store’s shelves and start facing purchase limits once again. Today, we decided to track some of the most severe product stockouts and also expose which items may disappear next.
In recent months, American shoppers have been repeatedly reporting missing grocery items at their local Costco warehouse. But things seem to have taken a turn for the worse in October when several food products that were supposed to enter our food supply chains never arrived. We had a year of historical crop losses due to extreme weather conditions. The worst drought ever seen in this century resulted in some of the weakest harvest seasons in nearly five decades.
The scorching temperatures also led our beef cow herd to rapidly shrink, as farmers sent their animals to slaughter earlier than they typically do to prevent them from dying of thirst and starvation amid dwindling supplies of water and cow feed. You also probably heard about the avian flu epidemic, which is not only leading to shortages of chicken but also pushing poultry and egg prices to skyrocket The result of all of these losses is now being seen at the stores in the form of empty shelves.
Even major grocers like Costco are struggling to keep shelves fully stocked and announcing that in the coming months, many items will be discontinued. That’s why we decided to analyze data provided by Eat This, Not That, a leading news outlet in food, nutrition, and health, to track which are the most persistent grocery shortages at the retailer’s locations and what items are about to go out of stock.
The company just announced that dozens of products are being discontinued over the next few months. This means that your favorite treats may disappear from the store and not come back. A new report exposed that you may have to say goodbye to a wide range of treats that the retailer decided it will no longer sell. Knowing that some of your favorite items are going to be discontinued is one of the most disappointing experiences as a grocery shopper.
At the same time, it looks like purchasing limits are back with a vengeance. When searching the warehouse’s website for “limit”, we found dozens of items, ranging from active dry yeast at five per member, to almond flour at one per member, to acetaminophen at one per member, several types of wild canned tuna at one per member, mac and cheese at 10 per member, to soy milk at two per member, and many more. Retailers haven’t been able to catch a breath these days. The environment for most businesses remains tough, and as this downturn accelerates, they will continue to see their bottom lines getting hurt, and the same will be true for our personal finances.

Thats OK,my food comes from the big/cold box and me pantry shelves!
As prepper cat says”Keep prepping”.
We can keep prepping till the day we can’t,lets get on it folks/triple check our food/tools/seeds/skills ect.
It’s OK. People will share, cooperate, and make do with less.
Like they do at Black Friday stampedes – for TVs, not food, in the cold weather.
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA . . .
Sorry, just lost my mind, just for a minute. I’m OK now . . .
You are honored with Philosopher of the Day! Very well spoken!
“Philosopher of the Day”?!
I think he has just won the coveted(?)cinnamon cup “O”custard award!
A rare recognition indeed!
Well…I certainly won’t be helping anyone with YOUR shitty fuckin’ attitude. That’s a fact.
In January, I am going to do the “pantry challenge”.
I will buy no food and we will just eat what we have. Well, I will cheat a little bit and buy milk from the local cow place, where the cows roam free on good weather days, we always pet the farm dog and they process and bottle their own milk.
It’ll be a good time to get an even better grip on our inventory and get rid of the older meat.
I will miss the salad.
We do a Daniel Fast the 1st 21 days of January every year. No meat, no sweets, and no flour. I think many more will be doing them involuntarily very soon.
maybe trying growing some sprouts?
good plan though
Not one spefic product mentioned in the article. Calling this a headline with no news meant to cause panic. Here in Indiana every elevator is full with more ground piles than I have ever seen. Stores here have pallet after pallet of canned vegetables etc. Large pallet of tuna at Sav A Lot in a town of 3500 people. Yes, a few shelves have some empty spots but most of the time it is because the store is short of stocking employees as the younger generation refuses to work. It cuts into their video game time and weed smoking. Our government stinks as it’s “school” system has brought this about the past 50 years. Glad my expiration date is drawing near as this is not the country I was born into many years ago. Arrogance and narcissism rule the day from the top down. Christ has been scorned and done away with so that means ONE thing. Payday a’s comin’. Old Chinese curse-May you live in interesting times. Come quickly Lord Jesus!
Tuna on sale $1.00 per can at No Frills. Expiry date of 2025. We have a shortage of lettuce apparently. Rationing Iceberg and Romaine here in Toronto.
Limits on lettuce here in W TN, as well. Glad I still have a couple of plants that have survived the hard freezes and my spinach is coming on strong.
Now that they’re looking at puttin’ Coof Vax IN THE LETTUCE…I wouldn’t lose too much sleep over rabbit food.
Amen, brother. Look me up on the other side.
“as this is not the country I was born into many years ago.”
One & the SAME. Scaffolding has been being erected forever.
Yesterday in Walmart, I overheard an employee telling his coworker that the warehouse was overflowing, but they could not find enough workers to stock the shelves overnight.
They treat their employees like garbage. No surprise no one wants to work for them.
I went into one to apply for a job once. Think it was around twenty years ago or so. After reading their questions and demands, I just returned their form, told them to go fuck themselves and walked jauntily out of that shit hole. Best decision I ever made. Top 3 anyway.
I read “Nickel and Dimed” recently. Was eye opening.
working overnight at Walmart? In light of recent events…………………..
I live in Northern Indiana.. Some stores are stocked good. And some aren’t. It’s probably due to no help. Better affluent area stores, don’t have a problem at all.
They hire better managers because they have a larger pool to choose from.
Problem is that the Epic Economist makes Michael Snyder look good.
EE vids have cried DOOM forever.
MS is a free speech hating shit head. I wouldn’t piss in his face if his eyebrows were on fire.
Our normal $150 quarterly trip to Sam’s last weekend was well over $200. Everything was there, it just cost more…by a lot.
Eat slower. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
Costco in Oakbrook Il. last night had ZERO eggs in stock. Not food, but a 2in. 10ft. black pipe $60. at Menards.
You are near Batavia which is the HQ for Aldi. Eggs at the local Aldi were $3.60 yesterday. They were as low as 22 cents about a year ago. Butter is $3.99 lb. and that is the lowest around here. $4.99 lb. at Kroger.
$3.60 a dozen for store eggs is insane. My chickens are old and dont lay in winter. We started buying at the local farm for $3/dozen. Real eggs with thick orange yolks not that store crap.
At that price I may not get more birds and my hens will become chicken & waffles.
It’s where more freezer space comes in handy. I can still find $1.99 or $2.49 butter every 8 weeks at Aldi or every few months as a loss leader at bigger stores (limit 2 or something). Buy the maximum amount, up to how much you will use in 12 months).
What the hell is this guy talking about? I am not seeing any of this. If you are going to publish bullshit fear porn, then at least make some attempt to back it up with some actual proof.
Two different Sam’s Clubs in Las Vegas have had a limit of two packs (18 or 24) of eggs for a while. There seems to have been some changes in where or how they get eggs, too, as Vital Farms got dropped a while back but they now have pasture-raised eggs under their own house brand.
We shop Costco every week. I haven’t experienced any shortages. This article smells like BS.
I was at a Costco in suburban Atlanta 4 hours ago. Not a shortage of anything at that particular store, unless you want to include common sense among the patrons.
Same here, in the same general area and about the same time ago!
No real issues at the Costco I go to north of Atlanta (although they have not had large Portobello mushrooms in many months) and there have been minor shortages off and on. I am going later today and will put another comment here if I notice anything missing or short. Trade Joes, on the otherhand, seems to be low or out of a fair number of items. All that said, we get everything we can from a local farm that raises in a more traditional (organic) manner.
No Land O Lakes butter. Just Kirkland brand…which I despise. Also had to wait half an hour for a beef tenderloin roast to be cut. They’ve usually got at least half a dozen on display at any given time.
This local farm you mention. They looking for any more “customers”? I could pitch in with the farm chores if that would sweeten the deal. I’d like to raise a steer this year. Now’s about the time to start.
They do sell to all in the area, you can go by their location or they even deliver for a fair charge. I recommend signing up and getting on the repeat setting for items as you want, then you will have preference (so it seems) when they are low on things (and all of their various meats are very popular and I can say FAR superior to even the best organic meat at a normal store). If you search “farm rockmart milk for pets” they come up at the top on the dominant search engine.
Trust me. I know exactly how good the farm fresh meat is. I was raised and lived on a working farm for 51 years. That’s why I was asking. I’ve been temporarily herded into suburban life while I usher my Mom out of this life. Couldn’t help but notice you were in my general area and thought I’d ask. Thank you very much for the direction!
I did not check for butter as we have quite a bit frozen. We usually get the New Zealand grass fed or the Kerry Gold.
That was me as well a few months ago. I just got caught short in my rotating schedule. It was bound to happen with one item or another.
I have to be honest though. The way New Zealand treats its people and the world in general, I wouldn’t buy jack from them.
Yeah, they revealed their colors and lots of the people (not enough though) are waking up. I lived there for over 10 years and got out once as the evil manifested at the surface.
While I do recommend everyone be prepared like our great grandparents used to do, I just did some checking and two articles listed some Costco discontinued items. Most look like less popular junk food and other low sellers so I am not very alarmed by what I see on these articles:
https://www.eatthis.com/costco-discontinued-items-fall-2022/
https://www.eatthis.com/costco-discontinued-items-winter-2022/
Those Motor City pizzas kick ass! For frozen, I mean.
This hasn’t hit Dallas yet. The local Costco as of Thursday last week didn’t look like it was missing anything. HEB has opened a couple of stores here recently. They are beautifully stocked.
Many still fell for this? We are shooting ourselves in our own feet for refusing to censor our exposure to toxic words and break our ‘thrill of doom’ conditioning, a totally self defeating practice by our community of repeating unconfirmable wormy written word fear garbage, the practice of continuing to stare at the shadows on the Plato’s cave. Our enemy knows full well that words have a burrowing parasitical worm effect on minds and even though you think you don’t feel them they accumulate and weaken your confidence. I would feel guilty making effort to help more eyes see word weaponry like this.
While I have not seen shrtages I have seen large price increases and feel as warehouses empty it will be more evident.I just keep eating at the oldest of long term stuff and rotate, feel when it becomes apparent there are shortages will be almost light switch quick.
Hence, will prep across board with items and skills will use no matter how things turn out.
