Phones were far more safe for human mental health and well being when you had to stick your finger in a hole to dial and you were tethered to the unit, the small flat mobile phone that easily slips in the pocket has nearly destructed humanity. Progress?
If somebody had a lot of 8’s & 9’s in their phone number, it was easier to just get a different friend.
Iska- We had a lot more time for 8’s and 9’s back in the day when there was only 3 TV channels and no internet. 🙂
You had a dial phone?
Ours had to be hand cranked.
Guys I understand the sentiment about the older phones,
and also the tether aspect and addiction many have for smartphones, but
having just emerged from surgery, that smartphone was indispensable, for
giving updates via text or voice, to many, many well wishers and inquiries asking how I’ve been doing.
When it’s not as easy rising up and walking that most of us are used to,
it was a great way to stay in touch with a host of family and friends.
That aspect of technology, and the hip replacement technology is
state-of-the-art, and I’ve been grateful for both this last week.
So, you grew up in Hootersville???
“Ours had to be hand cranked.”
That was the car.
My first car had a push button transmission. My grandfather bought those too.
My first vehicle had a 3-speed manual transmission with a dual range power shift on the side and a pair of gear splitters on the other side. Came in handy for pulling school buses and snow plow trucks out of ditches in winter. It used a pair of Chevy pickup trucks for wheel chocks when changing the oil.
Another example of white privilege….
My Grandparents ran a café during the depression and she used to make shirts for my Dad and his brothers out of the 50# flour sacks. Some of the richer kids would try to trade my Dad for his shirts because they held up so well.
Kansas was behind. In Minnesota, the flour mills did that back in the 1870s.
I still have my candlestick phone, which I’m saving for my retirement.
It will be the only way for someone to contact me other than US Mail.
Do you have Prince Albert in a can? That was one we would pull
There’s a guy at my church named Albert. That’s how I remember his name.
Watched my great-grandpa roll his own cigarettes using Prince Albert tobacco.
Second to last pic is of my back yard and play ground. The dog house is an all to familiar sight, hanging in the kitchen of all places. wowsers. To many awesome memories of growing up, free.
Thx again, my fav part of the platform today.
Bakelite rotary, had em in house as a kid!
Totally forgot about those dip flowers, my sisters used to do that and of course their bratty younger brother would have to test the strength of that material.
Hey can anybody run down the list of all 5 of the gals in go go boots and ID them?
Also looking for confirmation that the classic car 2 spots above the PB tranny,
if that’s a white Pontiac Tempest, with the air intakes on the hood?
Asking for a friend.
TIA.
I think tis a Goat,do not remember the tempest having the rear wing, perhaps the Judge?
Had a 71 442 with w-30 package,i.e. the 455,another car should never have sold.

The boot girls are not famous, at least I don’t think so,. It’s a small section devoted to 60s/70s boot fashion trend.
Makes sense now. I couldn’t recognize any as celebs.
Thanks for doing this regularly, D.
They’ve been getting rave reviews.
Kudos to ya.
~Cheers!
Yes,it will.
Me mum died just over a year ago and the first 3 months were a bit of a drunken haze.
As I started to pull it together started to live again,5 events got me thru the year.
1.My friends marriage at a fancy club on the ocean,a really nice time with good folks.
2.Seeing Tesla not 1/not 2/but 3 times that spring/summer!
3.My cousin was out from Cali. on business and took her out to dinner,a great time and she looked great, had just a year earlier completely beaten a tough case of cancer, thus, was best moment of 2022.
A lot of little things keep one going thru tough losses, you never forget but one does get back on with life.
My friends also pulled me thru/babysat me during initial loss, does help a lot!
I miss the good old days of 2021 when you could search online for “Ukrainian pussy” and not get a Jewish midget dude in a green T-shirt.
I will never forgive the feminists for depriving me and my generation of that. I knew exactly one family who had that.
“I’ll never be late in my Z28”. Where is Jungle Pam Hardy?
Six finger, six finger man alive
How did I ever get along with five?
Our first telephones didn’t have dials. We were on a 12- party line, so you just picked up the phone and if someone was talking you just hung up and politely waited your turn.
Early ‘social media’ …
If you wanted to make a call, you just flicked the two disconnect buttons in the cradle and a female operator would come on the line and say, “number please.” I was just a young ‘stick-in-the-mud’ kid, but I fell in love with those operators … young, beautiful feminine voices, a young boys fantasy …
I grew up on a cattle ranch. I learned how to drive in a four-banger Ford Model A three speed. That old A didn’t have one hiccup. We’d water ski the Gila Gravity Canal (Colorado River irrigation district) behind the old Ford and she would give two skiers 30MPH. When I turned 16 I aced the driving test!
There is a saying attributed to the chinese: ‘May you live in interesting times’.
Well … born in ’47, I have done just that — but the ‘interesting’ part seemed to peter out maybe 1990 or so … and it’s been a downward spiral ever since as the full force and effect of our government has been brought to bear against our own people — via wars, via false flag events, via the deliberate destruction of our Constitution and our Bill of Rights — and the loss of our Nation’s Sovereignty, History, Culture …
That saying is often attributed as a curse.
Gams like those are gone with the wind.
