It is my sincere desire to provide readers of this site with the best unbiased information available, and a forum where it can be discussed openly, as our Founders intended. But it is not easy nor inexpensive to do so, especially when those who wish to prevent us from making the truth known, attack us without mercy on all fronts on a daily basis. So each time you visit the site, I would ask that you consider the value that you receive and have received from The Burning Platform and the community of which you are a vital part. ~Nice add, D.
Thx, too. Appreciate ya.
Lets not forget riding the rails!
That should do for now.
Locomotive Breath is one of my favorite songs from that time. (1971) Still in high school.
One of my favorite tunes. Just love Ray’s keyboard work.
Wonder why it was not on the top of the list.
Thanks for bringing people to their senses.
Lots of good road songs from all genres of music. Truckin’ by the Grateful Dead, and Six Days on the Road to name a couple. Highway Star. Many more
And of course one of their other travelin’ songs.
Arlo Guthrie — ‘City Of New Orleans’ …
driving into cali all nice and dry, thumping like a disco
and for the RUSH haters…. lol
If here are any, I am a fan.
Very powerful.
One of the tunes of my youth.
Tom Sawyer.
There’s a series of “rock ballads” that were put out in the mid 80s I think, that truly ruined the image of the band to that point. Foreigner – I want to know what love is, KISS – Beth, and The Cars – Drive (to name a few). Not saying its a bad song (but any song begins to get on your nerves after being played a million times on MTV, the radio, etc.) and it was just not consistent with them up to that point.
I’d agree with you on that one, Liberty.
I was into The Cars in a huge way when they were at their peak.
Was in my early 20’s and worked as a car stereo installer, circa early 80’s.
Most new affordable cars came with an AM radio, 1 speaker, and an antenna.
We would supplant that with an indash AM-FM-cassette player, and usually 4 aftermarket
speakers. In the doors, back deck, or dash corners. Using hole saws, drills and air chisels to
take out metal where needed. The baffling that the trunk provided for rear deck 6×9 or 4×10 oval
speakers, and the door cavity for 4″ or 5-1/4″ round speakers had a resonance way better than any surface mount speakers.
Boss systems added an amplifier or an equalizer / power booster, and the volume levels
would attract attention. But when in the car, on a sunny Summer day, and a favorite, rockin’
jam would come on, via FM or tape, man, we’d crank it up.
This was in the day before sub-woofer custom boxes were popular, and before cross overs.
The great memories from those days, and all the concerts we went to see and hear from those creative bands from the 70’s…what a blast.
One or two memories stand out.
Hot, sunny day, windows down on my ’72 Buick Skylark, stopped at a traffic light.
The Doors L.A. Woman comes on, so my volume goes up to 10 immediately.
It starts, with Ray Manzarek using keyboard synthesizer and faux bass licks intro…
As the lead guitar and drums blend in, and Jimmy starts singin’,
A stunning blonde in a car two lanes over hears it, looks at me, & flashes a smile that’d cure a homo.
Another one was the complete B-side a Cars cassette had 3 tunes, always played loud.
Bye, Bye Love, followed by Moving in Stereo / All Mixed Up. More obscure. Not overplayed on radio.
A similar loudly played jam by them was Stranger Eyes.
But, there’s enough YT vids posted on this thread already.
Anybody wants to hear those ones, go searching. They’re recommended.
Great to see so many additions thrown into the mix today.
I knew you bastards wouldn’t disappoint.
Rave on, monkeys. Rave on.
This guy got his dick cut a bit.
Became a muslim.
Brain damage?
Otherwise ok.
Better harmonica version of TRAIN TRAIN
Thank you

In 1970, Cross filled in, when a flu vax knocked out Deep Purple’s guitarist:

Dark Nights led to Brighter Days.
Bob Seger tunes. The piano and drum work on fire inside are foot-tapping goodies.
