You know you’re old when one of your favorite albums celebrates its 50th anniversary of being released.
And then one day you find FIFTY years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

Yep, totally true. Life is like a whisp of steam.
…or a shart if you’re unlucky.
Cry me a river. Mine is “Meet The Beatles” circa 1963. Sixty friggen years.
I still choke up, remembering the time I saw monks doing continuous breathing drone singing in a cave in Tibet sixty incarnations ago. Still have the t-shirt. And empty lighter.

Not sure I even know how many copies of that album (in various versions) I have owned. Simply outstanding from the first heartbeat to the last. Had a friend with 12″ subwoofers and 12″ passive radiators on his speakers. We used to crank up the stereo and sit and watch the speakers jump with every heartbeat. Good times.
Was too young to care, back at the release date.
Feel blessed I was at their last tour 1994, in Hockenheim.
(Although David Gilmour recently went almost full retard.)
What’d Gilmour do? Coronahoax nonsense?
Note: Polly seems to be David’s wife
Married into Synagogue of Satan? All these rock bands are degenerates.
Every day, there is some reminder of how old I am. That was the only Pink Floyd album I ever owned.
When I was 15 someone gave me and a friend free tickets to see them when they went on tour right as this album was getting ready to be released. Memorial Hall in Kansas City, KS. A smaller venue and we sat 5 rows back. My ears were still ringing the next morning.
The story of how vocalist Clare Torry basically created Floyd’ “Great Gig In The Sky”:

.
Here’s the origin of the tune, before Dark Side of the Moon came out, with beautiful animation by a rabid Brazilian fan:
It’s worth paying for a Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs gold CD of it. I played a copy of it for a radio DJ/professional musician through her headphones in the Eighties, who couldn’t believe she’d never heard some piano chords in one of the tracks before:

Fascinating!
I remember buying this album when it came out at the PX in Stuttgart as a kid.
Funny you should say this… it was the first album I bought at the PX in New Mexico.
Are you guys implying that the MIC subsidizes big rock acts? (j/k)
Oh, wait . . . they really do:
Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon: Laurel Canyon, Covert Ops & the Dark Heart of the Hippie Dream by David McGowan

Everything’s a psyop and all roads lead to depop and techno-totalitarianism.
MIC DV flak = over target.
I’ll give you guys a hint about my age. I remember drinking at a concert when Fred Durst came into the Beer Pit.
Had the same notion a few days ago while listening to “like a rock” from bob seger and the silver bullet band.
20 years now, whered they go? 20 years now, I don’t know. Uh, better make that 40 years now…
Even at 20 I knew I’d die some day. 50 years later it’s getting closer.
Rope is getting shorter but han on tight.
You know you are getting old when the hair leaves your head and finds its way into your ears and nose!
And just what the hell is that all about? Women don’t seem to have hair in their ears …
Ear hair is annoying.
at least you lived 50+ years so far.
3 years ago, one of my favorite writers wrote an excellent essay based on that album.

That was pretty good. 546 comments. I think I’ll repost it in honor of the 50th anniversary.
It was superbly written and certainly worthy of a republish for the newbies to enjoy.
Thanks …
Listening to Pink Floyd is one of the few things that still makes me want to smoke weed and chill like when I was young.
Pet Sounds– 57 years in May.
King Biscut Flower Hour
I invited a friend over to smoke some weed and then put the album on. When the alarm clock went off, he jumped a foot.
