eh, even lindt, is not what it used to be. every single commercial maker of mlk chocolate with a single exception, uses powdered milk. not just in the states, but everywhere. the *single* exception i’ve ever found is the swiss cailler, who uses evaporated milk. I’ve never seen cailler for sale *outside* of switzerland though inside die shoeni schweiz it’s sold in the supermarket as nothing out of the ordinary. even the lindt/spruengli stuff, the milk choco has powder in it.
Powdered milk is just about one of the worst things you could eat because the very process of drying it into powder oxidizes all the fats and cholesterols and turns them into the ‘bad’ varieties.
otherwise stick to dark chocolate that is only cocoa powder, cocoa butter, etc etc, but no milk powder.
when i lived in the states years back , swiss chocolate in bulk wasnt so easy to find but one could readily get (in 11 pound/5 kilo blocks) belgian caillebaut (mere coincidence that the name resembles the swiss cailler) and their semi-dark and dark was really good stuff. one order a year of two blocks and every time i visited someone i’d chop a big hunk off of the block and bring it along, never made any enemies with that 🙂
I prefer Dark Chocolate with cocoa, which is actually good for you. Dark chocolate has fiber and reduces blood sugar. Aldi’s has good 70% dark chocolate for $2 bucks. Hard to beat. I do agree with you quality and taste, not politics. is how to buy your chocolate.
