Mother, I tried to do right by you
To do what you asked me to
I did wrong and I knew
Mother I tried to behave for you
Now I’m a digging a grave for you
It was all I could do
Find a way back home, make everything new
But I wish it was true
Father, well I’ll give my soul to you
I came in blind folded for you
It was all that I knew
Open your arms and I’ll fly out of hell up to you
I wish it was true
Boy come on out from the cold
Your lost outside there don’t you know
It’s not what you say it was you do
Just keep wishing your wishes are true
Well your dreams there reality
There’s no pain there’s no misery
Just polish the blood and the bruise
For there’s just no way you can lose
But I wish it was true
Country, I was a solider for you
I did what you asked me to
It was wrong and you knew
Country, now I’m just a stranger to you
A number, a name it’s true
Throw me away when you’re through
Home of the brave and the free, the red white and blue
But I wish it was true

Poignant song never the less, despite the grammar police.
Nevertheless, not never the less.
Also, grammar police is a foolish term. Grammar matters. You don’t denigrate people who perform accurate work, such as building contractors, doctors, and the like. Grammar matters. This blog is all about the collapse. The degradation an manipulation of language is a significant part of that.
And appalled.
“The degradation an manipulation”
Perhaps 1 of the 4 words is not ‘proper’?
The bastardization of our English language is just part of the ongoing mongrelization of our culture … what with ‘spanglish’ being the preferred lingo in a sizable part of the US …
…It’s all ya got. If You’re an https://www.merriamwebster.com/dictionary/idiot%20savant
Artistic vs. Autistic? (License)
‘What Difference At This Point Does It Make?!’
How ridiculous. Grammar only matters if . . . ? This isn’t a dick-measuring contest. What a fool. It’s smart to be stupid and have low aspirations and standards? You sound like you’re one of this blog’s favorite boogeymen to slur.
“What a fool.”
Would classify the Song as Country/Western/Whateva, not typically a bastion of
rachel levine’sthe QUEEN’s English.Believe that https://artistic-license.org/what-is-artistic-license/ would take precedence.
” This isn’t a dick-measuring contest.” Don’t know where THAT came from. ‘nuther reason i’m thinking we may have met.
Normally? Much more shy and bashful. Nearly an introvert. But Tequila!
You want Your quarters back?
I wish to interrupt our discussion on proper syntax and grammar with this small interlude:
I deliver for Door Dash. Tonight, one of my deliveries was (not were) from a small sandwich/gyro shop which recently opened. When I entered, I could see both the employees were (not was) wearing the dreaded blue surgical masks.
I paused for a moment, thinking to myself, wtf, are we stepping back in time?
“Hello sir!” one of the two visible employees chirped when I walked in. “If you wouldn’t mind, please grab a mask; it’s required here,” the closest one to me said, gesturing to a small rack beside me upon which a number of masks was (or is it were?) hanging from a hook embedded into the wall.
I looked sideways at the rack, then back at the employee (who could have been a gurl or a femboi, only two choices there).
“Seriously?”
“Yessir,” it told me.
I took a deep breath. The shop seemed to be getting smaller. Somewhere, off in the distance, a pig farted.
“Yeah, okay,” I began, “I am not going to do that, and unless you intend on not allowing me to pick up the order I am here for because of it, I will release the order and let Door Dash find another driver who will accept your terms.”
“Well — um, look,” the now-uncomfortable employee thing started hemming, “it’s just company policy, you know, I don’t make the rules — ”
“Whatever, dude,” I interjected. “So how about you just let me have the order and I’ll be out of here, nobody gets bothered, and we all go about our merry ways?”
“I just can’t,” it said. “Everybody has to wear a mask in here.”
I took another deep breath.
“OK, how about this, then: I go stand outside, and you can bring me the order. Problem solved.”
It looked back at its silent partner, eyebrows raised.
“Look, it’s either that or I call Door Dash and tell them why I’m not taking the order, and then it becomes a thing. I’m not trying to be an asshole, but I also will not compromise my principles for anybody. Easy way or hard way, guys.”
They at least were smart enough to know I wasn’t bullshitting; they agreed to bring me the order if I stood outside. Fuckers.
Now, I am going to tell everybody I know about this shop and its requirements. I guarantee it will be gone within the year.
(No Pun Intended)
Gotta be a Country/Western/Whateva Song in that experience somewhere. The grammar, spelling, and syntax would be fine, as far as i can tell, And You could use pig Farts, instead of more cowbell.
