SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

This is nkit’s last Sunday as a regular on Sunday Morning Classics On TBP.

I want thank him so much at this time for all of his efforts and hard work to make this thread successful. I honestly could not have done it without him.

nkit was there with me at the very start over three years ago and I will miss him.

I hope that he will contribute still as a non-member.

Our newest member of our ‘Classic Music Mafia’, Anthony Aaron, and I will continue to bring you classic music and more though.

Please come and see us everybody this week and enjoy.

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
Anthony Aaron, nkit, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Respighi ‘Belkis, Queen of Sheba’ Ballet Suite – Sascha Goetzel conducts + encore

Respighi’s ballet ‘Belkis, Queen of Sheba’ was a tremendous success when first performed at La Scala, Milan, in 1932. It required enormous forces, not only on-stage with several hundred dancers, but also in the pit, with a huge orchestra, a large chorus and a narrator. The scenario depicted the union of the Queen of Sheba with King Solomon in the year 1000 B.C. However, the score’s colossal requirements and 80-minute length meant that the work has never entered the general ballet repertoire.

In order to salvage some of the music, Respighi prepared the four-movement Orchestral Suite heard here. It was played by the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic under Sascha Goetzel during the 2014 Proms and was its UK premiere. As an encore, Maestro Goetzel played a work very popular in Turkey, “Köçekçe” by Ulvi Cemal Erkin.

I. The Dream of Solomon-0:21
II. War Dance-8:47
III. The Dance of Belkis at Dawn-12:04
IV. Orgiastic Dance-19:49

Respighi: Concerto Gregoriano

“Concerto Gregoriano” was composed by Ottorino Respighi This video features all three movements in one video. Performed by the Philharmonia; conducted by Mathias Bamert Violin Soloist, Andrea Cappelletti

I. Andante Tranquillo 00:01
II. Andante Espressivo E Sostenuto 09:12
III. Finale (Alleluia): Allegro Energico 19:40

Music for the Royal Fireworks – Handel

Kitaro – Theme From Silk Road

The Silk Road is a television series produced by Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) that first aired throughout the 1980s. Kitarō , born Masanori Takahashi (February 4, 1953), is a Japanese recording artist, composer, record producer, and arranger noted for his electronic-instrumental music, and is often associated with and regarded as one of the most prominent musical acts of new-age music.

The only drawback is the PC nonsense ads that come a few times an hour for a minute. If only there were free-market classical streams, unattached to National Propaganda Radio. These are still wonderful for 55+ minutes per hour.

We’ve got company coming in so I started a big pot of Clemenza’s sauce (you never know when you gotta make enough to feed 20 guys). Hot Italian sausage, sweet Italian sausage, meatballs, pork shoulder and smell of garlic and tomatoes, and all of it done to Water Music.

Thanks again, every Sunday you guys outdo yourself with these selections.

On a lighter note here is Neil Diamond delivering one of his very well-known selections to an audience that really appreciates it. I have seen him live a couple of times and this performance is a goodie.

Thank you Mafia and nkit especially – it is been a pleasure and privilege working with you and enjoying every minute.

If music be the food of love, play on;
Give me excess of it, that, surfeiting,
The appetite may sicken, and so die.
That strain again! it had a dying fall:
O, it came o’er my ear like the sweet sound,
That breathes upon a bank of violets,
Stealing and giving odour! Enough; no more:
‘Tis not so sweet now as it was before.
O spirit of love! how quick and fresh art thou,
That, notwithstanding thy capacity
Receiveth as the sea, nought enters there,
Of what validity and pitch soe’er,
But falls into abatement and low price,
Even in a minute: so full of shapes is fancy
That it alone is high fantastical.
[William Shakespeare, Twelfth Night]

Where ever you go and what ever you do, nkit my friend, always remember one of my favourite mantras for life in this crazy world: “The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese”. It works for me! Bonne chance, bon voyage, and au revoir

Thank you, Peter. You are a true gentleman, and I am honored to have you as a friend. Maybe Steve will throw an old-timers day, and we can once more all join in together.

Thanks for the video, and the reminder to not be the first mouse.

Best of luck to you, Peter. Take care, my friend.

Steve C,
Thank you very much for all of your kind words. It has been a pleasure working with you for the last three plus years. Sunday Morning Classics has come a long way since the early days with SMC and Austrian Peter. Its popularity has grown, and yes, your baby has come a long way. It has become a mainstay of TBP.

I’d also like to thank all of you – the listeners, and especially those of you that comment and add content to SMC on TBP. Your comments made all my efforts worthwhile and enjoyable. We could not have been as successful without you every Sunday. It was always satisfying to know that someone was out there enjoying our weekly post.

Finally, the timing of my departure is good. Steve and Anthony will carry on, and do an excellent job as always. Anthony is already doing a great job, and Steve C is putting in a major effort to bring you SMC on TBP every week that most here probably don’t realize. He has been the work horse for Sunday Morning Classics since its beginning. I want to thank you, Steve for all of your hard work and determination that brings us to where we are today.

I will still follow closely, and will occasionally add some content if I come across something that I think will fit.

Thanks again to all,
nkit

PS- thanks for adding my favorite Arlo piece this week, Steve. “We’ll just stay here till we out-number them.”

Amen to that nkit – kudos to the team and all those wonderful TBPers who appreciate and comment. For me the worth of my work is a measure of the wisdom that resides here on this unique and exceptional platform. I just found what I was looking for to say goodbye in a very British way:

So I would also like to thank Admin for his selfless dedication to our cause and his indomitable spirit that fires us to action every day. 🙂

Thanks BL. You took me back 60 years when I was studying for CIS at Bristol University and I was struggling with English Law. My good professor, one Bernie Howe QC, kept us up until the early hours studying cases and always played ‘Ole Blue Eyes’ his favourite of the time. This was on often and I still link legal cases in my mind when I hear it – the power of music, no less:

Thanks, nkit, for your amazing contributions over the past 3 years to this Sunday Morning Classics feature … I can only hope that you will return to us as your time and such permit … you and your contributions will be missed.

Tina Guo has also appeared in a number of Hans Zimmer’s movie scores … that’s where I first became aware of her … but she and Peter Kater (piano) have also performed beautifully together …

You guys do such a great job week after week and I know from reading the comments that Steve pours his heart out to get this favored weekly post out for us all to enjoy. Looking forward to seeing Anthony fill the gigantic void left by nkit.

nkit – You have introduced me (and reacquainted me) with some fine music over the years. Below are two that come to mind and every time I hear either of them, I first think of you. Take care, my friend and maybe one day, you will say I was a friend of yours.

I had totally forgotten about Old and Wise until you posted a clip in answer to one of my postings.

APP was in Denver last November and I really wanted to go visit the kids and take in the concert, but our kids were coming here for Thanksgiving and I could not talk the boss into going to see them so close to their visit down here. It is one of those bucket list items that may never get accomplished.
