SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
Anthony Aaron, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

彝族舞曲 琵琶 Pipa | Dance of Yi Tribe |Zhuxi Wang 王竹夕

Composer: Wang Huiran (1965)

One of the top ten famous Chinese pipa songs, it describes the charming night scene of the Yijia village and the happy scene of people singing and dancing. This is one of the first few pieces of music I learned at the beginning of my piano study. I have always been very touched by her melody, and I always think it is one of the most successful works in modern pipa creation. More than 20 years later, I re-interpreted the dance music of the Yi nationality, and it was a completely different perception. I recalled the interesting stories and warm scenes when I was a child and often played it to my family – to my dearest grandpa

Hatari! Howard Hawks. 1962 / “Baby Elephant Walk” Henry Mancini

From the 1962 movie ‘Hatari’ with John Wayne.

It’s a really good movie and it’s free on YouTube.

IF, and I say IF you are a member (membership is free) and you sign in supposedly to confirm your age. There’s NOTHING adult about this movie.

You can watch it here.

I loved watching this movie when it came out in 1962 (I was 10) and I love it now.

This song was very popular in the 1960’s thanks in part to this scene.

I just love this…

The most anticipated Sunday temple to worship music for which we all thank you VERY MUCH!
Here is a classical pianist that very much deserves much more attention than she is getting. IMHO.
The concert.

A fascinating interview with her mega health issue and her strength of life.

Not sure if I should take this liberty, but I first posted this on 10-24-21.. I am aware that there are a number of people who enjoyed this, so I wish to play it again for them.. Know that I would love to sit out on the porch, shell some Crowder Peas with you, listen to this type of music, chew the fat and sip a very high quality bourbon.. You know who you are, friends.

No need to replay it , Steve, and thanks for your tolerance.
