DDT’s not a good example. It actually was safe and effective. Too effective. It was banned because it was saving the lives of too many people. The elites at the time said “How are we going to feed all these people?” then invented some lies about the “dangers” of DDT.
If the Left were rational and not hysterical, it would campaign for reinstituting DDT use, because of malaria’s disparate impact on people of color. Thomas Sewell wrote about how DDT saved millions of lives, just in the Sudan from Malaria. But to call it safe is a bit far fetched. It’s more of it had some very good uses. It was very detrimental to wildlife and by extension, us.
