In a recent episode of “Stay Free,” comedian and political commentator Russell Brand addressed Fox News’ firing of Tucker Carlson, telling viewers that while most other nightly news shows talk about “peripheral issues” and not “the heart of the machine” — the military-industrial complex — “Tucker Carlson went there.”

Fox News axed its most popular host, Tucker Carlson, because he spoke out against “the establishment” by attacking the “deep state,” the “military-industrial complex” and “the corporatization of America and indeed the world,” according to comedian and political commentator Russell Brand.
“Where does radical opposition to the establishment agenda come from if anybody who speaks out against the agenda is one way or another ‘cleansed’ from the system?” Brand asked in a recent episode of “Stay Free with Russell Brand.”
Brand said that while most other nightly news shows talk about “peripheral issues” and not about “the heart of the machine” — the military-industrial complex — and the financial interests of those in power, “Tucker Carlson went there.”
Brand — who admitted he disagreed with Carlson on a “bunch of stuff” — said that “even if you don’t like him, you have to acknowledge that.”
Brand showed his viewers Carlson’s first public speech after Fox fired him, in which Tucker said most of the debates on television are “unbelievably stupid” and that “the undeniably big topics — the ones that will define our future — get virtually no discussion at all: war, civil liberties, emerging science, demographic change, corporate power, natural resources.”
‘Encouraging’ that a voice like Carlson’s is reaching a large audience
According to Carlson, “Both political parties and their donors have reached consensus on what benefits them and they actively collude to shut down any conversation about it.”
“The people in charge know” that the “old orthodoxies” upon which they rely are “braindead” because “no one believes them anymore,” Carlson said. “That’s why they’re [those in power] hysterical and aggressive. They’re afraid,” adding that “when honest people say what’s true — calmly and without embarrassment — they become powerful.”
At the same time, Carlson said, “The liars who’ve been trying to silence them shrink and they become weaker. That’s the iron law of the universe: True things prevail.”
Brand said it’s “encouraging” that a voice like Carlson’s — whose tweet containing his speech has already been viewed by 80 million people — “is reaching a large audience.”
Brand also criticized upper-level U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) officials for expressing “delight and outright glee” at the news of Carlson’s firing from Fox News, citing comments by a senior DOD official who told Politico the U.S. was a “better country” now without Carlson “bagging on our military every night in front of hundreds of thousands of people.”
It’s easier for the Pentagon leadership to “blame Tucker Carlson for bagging on the military,” Brand said, “rather than acknowledging that the military are always used as heroes when convenient but are discarded whenever necessary.”
According to Brand, the “bigger problem” is that over 50% of the DOD budget goes to private military contractors like Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, while members of the military are using food stamps and are “likely to end up homeless” because they cannot afford their own shelter.
