Obviously a VERY good year…for music anyway. Not a lemon in the bunch.

True dat…soul music was hitting stride at that time.

But here we are 60 years later and this one hypnotizes me.

A unique advantage the Boomers have is a complete soundtrack accompanying memories of their youth and young adulthood. Thanks to the now deceased Top-40 radio phenomenon, every kid in the country was listening nonstop to the same tunes as their coming of age unfolded.

Hits like these instantly transport a whole generation back to a time like no other. By today’s standards some of the performances are corny, but the music still stands.

I saw a Beach Boys concert in Sacramento in 1963. They were wearing those same blue-striped shirts and it was all glorious in the Golden State.

The early days of the British Invasion were my first concert experiences … in 1964 I saw the Beatles, The Rolling Stones and the Dave Clark Five … what a year.

My generation (born in ’47) has had the greatest popular music since the days of the great classical composers … and, what with Dick Clark going back to the ’50s even, we had so much to enjoy.

Thanks for the memories …

More lies…also from 1965. The Knickerbockers sure sounded like the Beatles.

63, the year pop rock started to get really good, IMO. Heatwave, Up on the Roof (both already linked above), and several other great songs.

Admin … Did you roll with the ode to 1963 tunes due to your recent 60th birthday? If so, good reason!!

A few years younger than you (1967 YOB), but one of many bits of good fortune was to be the child of young parents (only 20 to 23 years older than me) that spun these and many other great tunes throughout my youth … I still love these tunes even though they were created before I was born …

The energy, freshness and connection with the human spirit of this music is wonderful.
