Taxation is Theft: New Design + Henry Hazlitt Quotes

Taxation is Theft design

“Balance of power” doesn’t mean the bureaucrats on either side of the aisle get to take turns using our tax dollars to enact their prescribed versions of “good policy.” It means a government that is fully accountable to the people therein – a novel idea, we know.

“I have never understood why it is ‘greed’ to want to keep the money you have earned, but not greed to want to take somebody else’s money.”

– Thomas Sowell

In all fairness, taxation isn’t really theft. Ratlike though they are, it’s not like IRS agents are wriggling through the crevices in your house’s foundation each night so they can take your stuff when you aren’t looking. Taxation is actually extortion, because the IRS will send armed men to encage you for not forking over one-third of your income each year.

We have more respect for street criminals than we do the IRS. When you get right down to it, the junkie who points a sharpened length of rebar at people’s throats is practicing entrepreneurism. It’s a crude form of entrepreneurism, true, but at least they’re self-employed.

Henry Hazlitt Quotes on Economics

Henry Hazlitt quotes

  • “The government has nothing to give to anybody that it doesn’t first take from someone else.”
  • “We cannot distribute more wealth than is created. We cannot in the long run pay labor as a whole more than it produces.”
  • “Today is already the tomorrow which the bad economist yesterday urged us to ignore.”

Government agents, on the other hand, don’t even have that much initiative. They’re dispersing goons to do their dirty work, and they aren’t keeping the fruits of their misdeeds for themselves. They kick it up to Uncle Sam, who in turn gives them back a little sliver – kind of like giving a pig a potato in exchange for digging up a truffle.

Hell, the only difference between the mafia and the government is that the mafia has better tailors.

We know, we know: “But who will build the roads?” Ideally someone who doesn’t also piss away trillions of dollars on foreign aid, foreign wars, corporate bailouts, welfare and seafood dinners. But do you know the real irony of it all? You’re going to have to pay a tax when you order this fine piece of Libertas Bella merchandise.

Libertas Bella. It’s Latin for “beautiful liberty." We chose the name for a few reasons, one of them being that we cherish liberty whether it’s our own or anyone else’s. Libertas Bella has been featured on FEE.org, LewRockwell.com, Activist Post, PJ Media, and ZeroHedge.

In my opinion, “Taxation is Theft” shows the same level of juvenile immaturity that the rest of Libertarian “theory” is founded upon.

These people are selfish and simply do not want to do anything to provide order or ensure that society functions.

It is soo much easier to say “That’s Mine!” or “You’re not the Boss of Me!” than it is to really dig into how to structure society to ensure that the strong don’t prey upon the weak AND ensure that gov’t does not get out of control.

It is implicit in Libertarianism that when they say “Taxation is Theft” they are proclaiming themselves to be the strong of society, and they only view gov’t as an obstacle to their aims. This presumption of strength lies behind all their positions on gov’t, the market, economic forces, and even the drug wars.

If you want to see how they really think the world works, look at how many work for gov’t funded education organizations, or get their money from wealthy, connected think tanks to push their “pro-business” propaganda.

They couldn’t give a damn about how their theories would affect others, nor what types of externalities their activities accrue to innocent parties who are not in a position to fight them or defend themselves.
