I had a neighbor who had the only colored TV in the neighborhood and all the kids would cram into their den to watch Flipper. That show and Sea Hunt gave me the desire to learn how to be a SCUBA diver.

40+ yrs ago, met Lloyd Bridges. Asked him how he could speak so clearly when underwater. “Top Secret technology” was his answer. We all laughed.

Xerox told us that this was known as the ‘puppy dog’ close TNP and you have just confirmed it after all these years – so it actually happened?

They said the theory is that with something brand new, like a colour TV at a vast price (I saw $1650 in the list!) – then as long as you give a one-off on a free trial for a month – they will never give it back or face the humiliation. Then everyone else piles in to share in the status. Given the price of Xerox copiers at the time – they were dead right!

Peter – It must have worked because within a year at least half of the houses in the neighborhood had color TV’s. Mom worked part time for Monkey Wards, so got a nice discount on ours.

Thanks TNP – it was just so reassuring that yet again Xerox were on the button!

I did and enjoyed diving for about 15 years. We saw a lot of beautiful reefs and had some great experiences diving throughout the Caribbean. One night we dove at a site where loggerhead turtles come to sleep. You could get within 10 – 15 feet of them and they looked to be as big as a VW beetle. The next day, we did a shark dive where the dive master fed the sharks while we all stayed up close to the coral.

We had a 19″ tv color for as long as knew, course not all shows where in color, but the 3 stations where bad ass. Think I was in fifth grade when we got fox, bumping our stations up to 4

Dang, you’re a youngster, Bauls.
I remember when we got our first TV. The cabinet was huge and the screen was small, but the glow from that screen filled the 12X14 living room.

When the guy turned it on and got the channel adjusted, the first words I heard were “10-4” coming from Broderick Crawford on the show Highway Patrol. I was 3 or 4 at the time and it made a profound impact on young me.

OK folks, totally off subject but as I mentioned yesterday on June 11 you will need a vet scrip for fish antibiotics/dewormers(ivermectin) ect.,so,check your supplies and get ordering.

I just placed order for Ivermectin thru valley med pet supply for a bunch of pony paste tubes, got 12 @7.49 delivered,a better price then tractor(remember, they support the lgbt+ nonsense, again, what is +?!),so,get ordering, will keep posting reminders over the next few days in case folks miss other ones(will be copies of this post).

Again, believe this deserves it’s own article along with ideas for herbs/other ways to keep ourselves out of the pharm camps and healthy!

I do believe I saw a combination of those. Search the site and email Maulik he will let you know if he has that. Sometimes not everything on the site is shown so good to ask for certain items. When I say combination there was a combination for Covid, but they do also sell those separate.

Wow; lots of memories there. I never ‘hung out’ at Dairy Queen, but certainly have been. Right next to my junior high school had probably what used to be a dairy queen, but it was named in honor of that school. I think it’s an in-and-out veterinarian now. Don Rickles, rest his soul was a badass. Watched Flipper when I was little. I got those zip car dragsters for Christmas one year. Overrated, big time. Mary Ann, 🔥!!! Thanks to both my new decision to try and live forever and the likes of Bill Gates, no more Doritos ever and I’ll take the cheap gas, thank ya. Not that style, but I used to vomit on those merry-go-rounds when I was little.

Great memories. But, but, but…I paid $100 a month for a Junior 4 on the corner of 72nd and York after I came out of the service in ’68 and bought a perfectly good SAAB 4 cylinder/2-stroke for $100. As a kid, I hosed gas at $.25/gallon and sold Pall Malls from behind the counter at a penny apiece. All in all, though, I’d be happy to pay 80¢/gallon today.

I was paying 97 cents a gallon when I first stArted driving in the 90s I realize some of y’all are older than me, but when I got the motorcycle, that Yamaha couldn’t even hold 3 gallons, so fillups didn’t hert my Walmart/school budget too bad. Damn sure not like filling a truck or van with current prices

Slam dunk choice if only could pick one.
The $500 / month 2 bedroom apt. rental.
Rationale:
-A roommate could offset the rent cost. No exterior maintenance. Little interior maintenance.
No equity build, but also, no mortgage note, no property taxes, & renter’s insurance was cheap.
If you didn’t have a lot of stuff, skip the renter’s insurance.
Keep it clean and stocked with food and drinks & you’re good.

Gasoline prices?
Get a job close to the apartment. Bike. Walk. Skate to local places. In winter, layer up.

$1000 used cars? Decent, reliable ones for that much are rare, but they’re out there. Find one.
Hell, they get donated cars for the tax write off, by those well-to-do folks upgrading to newer.
Befriend one when you find one driving an older car, who took care of it.

$4.95 buffets? No thanks. Garbage food. Have an enjoyable trip to the throne afterwards.
Then, there’s the sneeze risk, from all the inconsiderate cheap bastards who would flock there.
Food poisoning, or, at the very least, probable indigestion.
Unless you have an iron gut that tolerates such slop.
No way in hell that food at buffets for $4.95 back in the days of yore was a healthy choice.
Eating healthy is more important now than ever. Stay out of the Dr. office and the hospital.

Exercise.
Easy if you have no car (no need for gasoline), but have feet, shoes, skates, or a bike.
Cook at home. More frugal, and if you know how, way more healthy, if you have a discipline.

ON other pics:
Didn’t Squirrels soft chews sit side by side the Mary Janes, at most penny candy stores?
Similarly, Bit-O-Honey chews were addictive as nicotine, as I remember. Unique flavor.

Absolutely like that picture of Grace and Liz. Sweet.

Lastly, only evaluating that white game cock picture would allow use of those three words, without getting a scowl from the PC crowd these days.
Also a fitting moniker for a couple dudes that sporadically visit the platform now and again.
No explanation or reveals or tells shall be further forthcoming.

‘nuther good one, Miss Admin.

Cheers!

Good mems. I wonder how many folks did not recognize the typewriter ribbons? Wrote my first book using a portable manual that I had onboard AVENTURA for years. Always favored the solid black ribbons rather than the two-tone. May buy another manual portable in case we go strong retro and pamphleteering is our only option.

We had a Tastee Freez in our little town, which was a Dairy Queen competitor. 50 flavors of ice cream, plust they served the best burgers I can remember. We’d ride our bikes down there with some quarters from our allowance, and Mom wouldn’t worry a bit. When my cousin’s bike was broken, he would ride on my handle bars.
