Depends on how hungry the shark is.
Actually, since the diver has no way of knowing how hungry the shark is, …. just dumb. But lucky.
During my scuba years, I never saw such a docile shark. Even the nurse sharks would take off if you touched them.
Maybe they tranquilized it like they did the big Tiger Shark in Thunderball

Then, the largest shark ever recorded, saw an LGBT flag on the scuba gear and said:
“Hard pass. I’m on the Carnivore Diet. No fruit.”
Pretty sure I’ve seen this woman interviewed. & have read Nestor’s book about free diving (in which sharks come up – & another woman, who helped teach Nestor how-to, calmed him down about it – at least somewhat).
And I watched the Herzog docu about “timothy treadwell.”
Not the same sorts of people (leaving room for staging).
Not the same apex animals, either.
Bears do the hibernation hustle. Lean year, slim pickings? Clock’s ticking & if time’s about out, anything will be on the menu.
Sharks, bounty of the ocean, eat more regular. No hypoglycemia issues. (put toothy smiley here)
There are some spots where the migrators converge. Mutiny of the bounty slims the pickings. Surfers, swimmers, get hit more often in those zones.
Stay out of bad neighborhoods. Like Treadwell didn’t.

The fishermen all around the boat exploded with laughter, all knew the line, and yes I landed the Bluefish.
