It’s all consciousness. At the lowers levels we are just animal and subject to this. But I doubt that fleas have any higher level thinking ability like humans. When we live just to satisfy our lower urges we are the flea. When we realize we are more than our base desires, ego, this is the start of our Spiritual journey. When we do prayer, meditation, and contemplation we are taking our inheritance of being divine being made in the image of God. There are higher levels of consciousness as Self Realization, Spiritual Realization, and even God Realization. The choice is ours or we can be the flea.
Here is one of the exercises I use to reach the higher consciousness. HU is the root word for Human and also for hallelujah. Chanting is one of he oldest forms of prayer. HU is both a secret and sacred name of God. Starting you day with a 20 minute spiritual exercise sets the tone for the day.

When I chanted HU the first time I knew it was one and the same, and I did not need anyone to connect with the Holy Spirt but myself. So what spiritual tools do you use to connect with the holy spirit? I have seen people listen to a HU chant and began crying as they were touched by the holy spirit. The basis of Christianity and all true religions is making contact with the holy spirit.
