WATCHING REAL-LIFE VILLAINS AT PLAY

Guest Post by Cpt Obviuos

Ever since Ian Fleming romanticized it, with his uber-mensch James Bond involved in increasingly absurd plots (it can be argued that the man, who was a self-admitted MI-5/6 agent, performed his service admirably by doing so), the idea that there are indeed ordinary people around the world who are placed in extraordinary circumstances is not one which naturally appears believable to the general public. (Super-secret agents fight villains with extensive volcanic underground lairs, you know. I think they have a whole course about this at McLean. It’s all very exciting!) But some of us actually have experienced this utterly unreal, insane world, and have (luckily, so far) lived to tell about it. I assure you, however, it is real. And not nearly so exciting.

If not for the encouragement of a friend who rightly pointed out that the oaths I took to protect a country 30+ years ago which no longer exists are valid, I would not be telling this tale (or any others which might come later). I wanted to protect this country. What I did may not or may not have made a difference, but that is for no man to judge.

I want everyone to know, I believed then as I do now that some of my actions helped save lives. I have a clean conscience, because I did help rid the world of evil in some small ways. It is a constant battle. But I feel like I was on the “right” side.

Let me give you some background for the story I am about to tell:

Since the hostilities between them began in 1991, the Ministry of Justice of the Croatian government has maintained lists of suspected Serbian war criminals, numbering as many as 3,000 at one point. These “official” lists have frequently been criticized for inaccuracies and uncertainties. Adding to the confusion, other “unofficial” lists of war criminals and suspects have been prepared (and occasionally published) by non-governmental organizations and by the press. As late as February 1997, a Vinkovci (Croatia) newspaper published a list of suspected war criminals including 1,200 names.

At the same time, the Croatian government passed several laws granting amnesty for those who engaged in certain acts relating to the war in 1991 and thereafter. The Law on General Amnesty passed on September 20, 1996 in response to pressure from the international community (read: NATO). This most comprehensive of the three laws granted amnesties all those who committed “criminal acts during the aggression, armed rebellion or armed conflicts, in or relating to the aggression, armed rebellion or armed conflicts in the Republic of Croatia … during the period from 17 August 1990 to 23 August 1996.” The law expressly excluded those who committed “flagrant violations of humanitarian law having the character of war crimes.” The passage of the law was followed by the circulation of a list of ninety-six persons who were then in detention on charges of armed rebellion.

After promulgation of the amnesty law, the Croatian government continued to retain a list of 311 war crimes suspects. This list too was criticized for inaccuracies and errors. The existence of this list of war crimes suspects weighed heavily on the Serbian Executive Council (the assembly of the Eastern Slavonia Serb leadership) and on the minds of many Serbs in Eastern Slavonia who had to decide whether to remain in Croatia.

As a result, Transitional Administrator Jacques Paul Klein requested the Croatian government to produce a smaller list, with those who are not on the list being de facto amnestied. In March 1997, Mr. Klein received a new list of 150 names which he passed on to the Serbian Executive Council, which, in turn, notified those on the list. The list contained the names of those who had been convicted in absentia for crimes against international humanitarian law, those who had been indicted for such crimes, and those who were otherwise suspected of having committed such crimes.

I was sent to Zagreb in May, 1997, as part of an international task force (think INTERPOL without actually saying it out loud) to locate and surveil certain names involved in sleeper cells on the list of 150 given to Mr. Klein.

Glancing at the list provided us during our briefing, I noticed a great many had English surnames, which surprised me.

Let me pause for a moment and explain about sleeper cells: these are extraneous groups who, for the right price (and f*ck your politics), will go anywhere in the world they are needed, usually, to kill people. They are without morals, and there is nowhere they will not go when paid to do so. You would perhaps be surprised how many of them are comprised of Americans. None of them actually work for any agencies, but they do agencies’ works. When our governments need wet or dry work done with ruthlessness and plausible deniability, these are the men (and a fair amount of women) they call.

I will give you an unfortunately still living example of a former sleeper agent who was known in his operating days as practically Torquemada, and for good reason: Edin Vranj. A truly despicable human being.

THIS IS WHAT SCUM OF THE EARTH LOOK LIKE (and notice the masonic hand sign)

He gleefully tortured thousands of POW’s in Serbia, Croatia and Herzegovina, in 1992 and 1993, later became a high-ranking police official in Bosnia, and was rightfully convicted in absentia and arrested by the Serbians when attempting to cross their border, back in 2021 (though under pressure from the triumvirate of presidents now in Bosnia and Herzegovina, he was released back into their custody — which ought to tell you everything; every single one of them are war criminals). He was widely known for his acts, and by 1997 was spoken of in awe — as some of his tortures were legendarily despicable — in international law circles. Vranj is a perfect model for you to see how psychopathy is admired — indeed, required — and rewarded by those who use their services.

But Vranj was a base amateur when it came to dealing death; there were far worse than him, and a shocking amount of them were non-European. Still, it was Vranj I was assigned to watch, and this rat bastard was reputedly a child pornographer/trafficker. Someone who should have been set up against the wall when the revolution came, but was too well-connected. I already felt a strong hatred for him before I ever set eyes on him. I was sent to Ljubljana, where he would be taking a summer vacation with his family in a few weeks.

Anyone who considers it a hardship to be sent to a place like this is clearly insane:

TRY NOT TO ENJOY YOURSELF HERE

Actually, chasing around behind one of the worst things to ever draw breath on this planet can curb your enthusiasm for this little historic Eden, so fortuitously I was only there to track him while he was in Ljubljana, which was only a week. He never had any contact with children, instead going on excursions along the canals in boats with his attractive wife and daughter and dining at the best restaurants. Just another happy family, they seemed to be. I wondered if his wife knew what a monster he is/was. He and his family left on a Thursday, flying back to whatever hell they came from, and I left the very next day, on my way back to Lyon, never seeing him or lovely Ljubljana again.

If there was ever someone who, if so ordered, I would have killed, one who totally deserved to be erased from our existence, and if by killing condemned my soul to everlasting Hell, that would have been Edin Vranj.

We should both thank God that never happened.

Really interesting stories. Thanks for sharing!

Sadly, I won’t be able to make it Hardscrabble’s Farm this year – Maybe we can catch up in D/FW somewhere, when the weather cools in the fall.

Interesting.

You know the question, “If you could have a conversation with anyone, dead or alive, who would you choose?”

Well, I actually have a long list to this question, but now I just added you.

So many questions…

On the subject of psychopathy, I’ve heard there are both primary and secondary. Secondary psychopaths become that way over time, think policy enforcement agencies. Though, primary psychopaths are born that way due to some type of brain damage suffered during delivery. Would anyone happen to be able to shed more light on the subject, or point me in the right direction to learn more about the primaries?

I’ve also seen the Orange Man use that power-sign on many occasions.

There is so much evil in the world and when you stop caring your soul is doomed.

Soul is never doomed and there is no eternal damnation.. That’s a myth propagated by the Catholic’s and others to give the priest-craft power. Soul is always redeemable, and yes the evil do spend a term in the seven worlds of Avernus. It’s more like a jail sentence.

Great stuff. Back in 1977, Chicago, I worked with a Yugoslavian/Croatian guy in remodeling. He used to talk some of the history. He had memory of hiding under the leaves to keep warm and sleep when he was 3 years old during WWII. He said when Tito Died, it would be all out war with Croatians and Serbians. He was somewhat of a prophet as he had the heartbeat of his country. He was a real character and also a master craftsman.

What an interesting, although disturbing, story. Thank you Captain Obv for sharing.

I once heard someone say that no one ever really leaves the intelligence community, that there is no such thing as a former member of the regime. I really hope that isn’t true.

I suppose it is true, for some who chose certain jobs. Many who work in intel go so far undercover that to bring them out would probably get themselves and/or other people killed — that is reality. Others have so much operational knowledge that no, actually leaving is never an option; they are in for life (or death).

Honestly, those who have either made dead bodies or know where they are buried are the ones who can never really leave. Once you murder for any agency, you are on another one’s list, and revenge is always possible. Those guys (and girls) have a lot of weight to carry around, every living day, and more than a few of them crawl inside bottles and never come back (or if they do, the demon inside them kills them slowly).

I saw this happen to a shipmate who I went through Crypto school with; cryptologists have different specialties, like Operations, Interpretive and Maintenance. I went for a CTR, a Cryptologic Technician – Collection. My friend chose to be a CTT (Technical). (You may see the distinctions yourself here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptologic_technician#Specialties ) The difference between our jobs was the difference: in my field, I was often sent out for NSW (Naval Special Warfare) duties, which the other branches of the service also have the equivalent, so this is how I ended up in Eastern Europe in the late ’90’s working with INTERPOL. My job was to observe and gather information, then report what I saw; I did not engage any subjects directly.

My friend’s job involved electronic warfare and ordnance. He had to actually go into hot zones and was under fire several times. He saw some awful things; he had to do some awful things; and we could not talk about them. Even if we could have, we would not. We tried to keep it light whenever we saw each other, but through the years that got to be less and less, especially after Serbia/Croatia.

The last time I talked to him he was in Orlando in an alcohol/drug treatment facility run by the Navy. He had apparently been sent there because his drinking had gotten so bad he went on an AWOL drunk bender — for the third time. Speaking to him over the phone I could tell how far down he had gone; he was lisping because his teeth were falling out, and he would drift off in mid-sentence; just a shell of what he had been. When I hung up, I just dropped my head. Another good man ruined by the hell of war.

So, it is possible to walk away from it with a clear conscience, which I did, but others can never leave it behind, it is always with them for the rest of their days. It just depends on how much of your soul you have left when it is all over.

Riveting stories. I’ve often thought the way to handle evil such as this would be with private ‘citizen’ hit squads, comprised of equally ruthless people who would make their peace with God later. Sadly, the only solution that has ever seemingly been offered are government-sponsored teams like you mention…and I gotta believe more often than not they are out there doing bad. After all, when is government ever virtuous?

But just what if. Imagine the pause someone like a Klaus Schwab might have, knowing the virtue assassins had just sent him a black rose.

Schwab, just like Vranj, are members of the Dark Fraternity, aka freemasonry, which is why I included the picture of him with the comment I made. It is the only way these devils can live with what they do, by believing they are serving a higher power when they take innocent lives. Only a tiny percentage of humans (or whatever they are) are capable of actualizing their psychopathic urges, and these people are the ones who are in charge, and take orders only from the ones behind the throne.

This is why they never look over their shoulders and pay others to watch their backs, because if they actually did stop and turn around and see the destruction made by their wakes some of them might renounce their false god on the spot (others, however, would admire their work). They only look ahead. The past is not a worry for them, for there is nothing left to corrupt; the future is full of promise.

A black rose would be a satanic declaration of love (because everything is inverted) to Klaus.

Thanks CO, This is brave.

I’ve had the same urge to tell my stories recently too. Many are too recent–and thus risky to tell–as I ended up staying in the game too long to see AFG through.

You’re told to think critically, trust no one. But the scary part is when you follow those instructions and realize your superiors are the ones who should be trusted least. Not saying this is the case here, but imagine if your mark in this story was actually a decent dude, and the evidence was ‘massaged’ at the behest of the real baddies–in cahoots with our gov, and eager to eliminate their virtuous rivals.

That is always the risk when dealing with the government, that they can make an Assange out of a truth-teller. There is nothing we can now or could have done then which would have made a bit of difference in the grand scheme; but applying that same logic, what does it matter to tell stories now about people and places that are now history? Did what you and I did change anything, really?

Well the fact we are still here to tell others the way things really were, not what they are told, is perhaps why you and I feel the need to tell our stories. We know the truth about a lot of things; and this world needs a lot more truth in it. Maybe some people can apply what we learned to help them understand the way things are.

So fuck the people in charge now. I’m done. I’m not going to be a part of their evil schemes.

I quit being scared — and I feel liberated.

SHARE YOUR STORIES.
